It shuts off frequently and has to be reset.

I bought the most expensive, powerful router you had, and thought this would solve the problem at my house. It is faster, but it shut off frequently and has to be reset. We even recalibrated it, but it hasn't helped at all.

I liked this router but I did run into some issues early on which were a pain. If you can setup smoothly then its fine. I had to factory reset it a couple times for the wifi to stay consistent.

This router is garbage. 2nd unit I have had. After a week or so it locks up or slows down and needs to be reset.

Unfortunately, after being a happy customer / user for almost 3 years with no issues, now have a problem that looks like hardware problem - all ethernet ports (WAN + LAN) are now limited / capped to 10 Mbps that is way low from 1Gbps it use to be (and definitely cannot handle 200 Mbps from my ISP :( ). It happened suddenly last week, have tried factory reset / firmware re-flash / downgrade, nothing helps, Netgear support no help as well, so if you look for long time investment - please take my case into consideration. BTW, I now back using my very old Apple AirPort Extreme (3-rd generation) that can still handle 1Gbps on all ethernet ports (with not such a good WIFI coverage though :( @@@@@@@

    Great Speed...With An Occasional Restart

I must have read hundreds of reviews for this router and others before purchasing. This tri-band router runs a little warm, but not like the comparable Linksys. As others experienced, sometimes this router's throughput drops to a third or less of the max speed of your external internet connection, requiring a soft reset. It happened twice in six weeks. However, the range is great, covering over 2,000 sq ft on each of two floors and extending outside the house on the lower band. Internet speeds consistently exceed the maximum speed of my plan. Internal home network speeds are about half of the theoretical max due to different max speeds of connected devices. Except for the occasional resets, great speed and range.

Had firmware issues with the first one so I had to swap it out. Caused the WiFi to stop broadcasting completely and was not able to factory reset. Netgear told me to swap it out after calling tech support.

didn't spend a lot of time with it, but signal didn't seem to reach any further than my router supplied by spectrum. I ended up returning, because 5g was slower than 2g connection (even two feet away from router). I did the requested resets and updates, and no improvement. and honestly, shouldn't have to do this to make it work as advertised - it should work out of the box.

Our previous router struggled to keep up with the laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, phones and streaming TV programs. It lagged badly and needed to be reset constantly. The nighthawk has worked unbelievably well allowing all our devices to work and after about a month we have yet to reset it. We are very pleased with the purchase and would certainly recommend.

Bough in mid-2017. After 9 months of use, I can say the following: Any deviation in router configuration from default seems to result in connectivity and latency issues. No logs to be had, but bypassing straight to modem, and resetting to factory validates the issue. Netgear support on expensive product is the same as their cheapest product - so buyer beware. You get a year of hw warranty but you can't replace it if it fails after 90 days unless you subscribe and pay more money for tech support.

Gigabit wired work, wireless is sub par

This is a good looking router, but has a lot of shortfalls. To get gigabit speeds on a wired connection, almost all of the extra management features need to be turned off. This is due to the necessary hardware acceleration to achieve that speed. Wireless on the 2.4GHz band maxed out at 15-20Mbps on my iPhone's and laptop, 5GHz band at 30Mbps. We reset the device, updated firmware, and tweaked to no avail.

Have had the device a week. I read all the reviews before purchasing and a few were bad, which does happen. Bought it and hooked it all up and had it running in about an hour after connecting all my devices. Between iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, two iMacs, Mac Air laptop, and several wifi enabled cameras I have about 25 devices. The first few days the thing was a beast and handled all the traffic. Granted not all the devices are not on and used at the same time. But it worked great and we even streamed 3 movies from the iMac to the apple tvs while surfing the internet. about 3 days in devices wouldn't connect anymore and would start to prompt me for the password. They would even try to connect to my neighbors house. I reset the router and started over, worked again for a day or so and then all the devices once again started to disconnect. very very disappointing. right now I'm on day seven and I think its time to pack it up and bring it back as it has been two resets and it keeps reverting to dropping my devices and then not letting them reconnect.

This router replaced an ac1200. It is faster and can handle way more load than we'll ever give it. Its strength is the ability to wirelessly stream video and the like to multiple devices. Love that all lights and buttons are lit and conveniently on top. Only the on/off and factory reset are in the rear (and therefore hard to reach). Literally I can't see us at home ever needing a better router.

I spent many hours trying to use this router. I setup my own SSID and IP scheme. I dropped internet and had to reboot multiple times per day. There is a lot of info on this online. I reset to default settings and it seems to be stabilized. I am a network engineer though and can't begin to imaging a regular user dealing with the issues.

My internet router before would not work at all. I was constantly resetting it to try to make the wifi work and the connection would constantly break. I tried several different routers before and I was beginning to think it was just my Internet provider. Once I switched to this one, everything would load within a second and I can finally have mutiple devices on wifi. It never cuts out and it works super fast. Great product and I'm glad I can finally stream without waiting minutes for things to load.

I purchased router for all the devices we use and what disappointment. The 5 bands keep disconnecting. Reset router and would work for a little while and start disconnecting. The range was worse than N900. I have been a netgear fan for years. I had the latest firmware update.

As an experienced router user (I have had used more than a dozen different routers over the years). I don't know why my unit behaved this way but my brand new unit would not allow me to log in. It does so even after resetting to factory default. It made no sense that I could not log in to a brand new router. It was useless. I had to return mine. Would have been nice if it worked.

My router went out. I did some research and saw this was a pretty good one. I have a older modem and was afraid that it wouldn't be good enough for the new router I was wrong router works great. I know I should have changed modem also but was hoping to get away without the added expense since the router is up there in price. But it is well worth it. Easy to setup as well. Did have to call provider so they could reset modem on there side so it could hook up correctly.

I tried the router for a few day, but I ended up returning it. . It would lock up and not give out ip addresses. . I would reboot the router and it would do the same thing. I tried installing the newest firmware and hard reset. None of it seemed to help.

Was thinking it would be a lot better than the provided router from my ISP. After a week it reset on me and would not let me connect my devices . . had to re do set up which was a pain. . seems like a common issue when I googled it. . overall nice router

The product is supposed to be plug and play but was not. On line set up info was little help. Phone support was equally bad. The technician clearly was going from a script of procedures to try and required me to go through the steps multiple times. Only after 1 1/2 hours on the phone and me insisting on talking to another tech was I instructed to insert a paper clip in the reset hole and reset the machine to it's default settings. The problem was fixed. This should have been done after the first run through the setup procedures failed. I would recommend the product because it works fine and we get a good signal throughout the house but understand that if you need tech support the service will be poor.
