The router that delivers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had many routers, this one is by far above most out there. As an I.T. Professional I get to work with many different product and Netgear has the reputation of being... Frustrating at times. This router is not one of those times. Out of the box, in default settings, it's a big approvement over most routers including the one that you're replaceing. You download their Genie app and follow the few instructions and you are good to go with a powerful router capable of doing wireless b/g/n/ac. I did not find any problem connecting with anything I have here at my home; Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Hue Lights, Mac, Windows. Distance didn't improve but the quality of signal did. The router itself has a very unique and futuristic look to it similar to a very large upside down spider. It has a VERY big footprint so make sure you have enough space for it. While the Genie App does assist with initial setup and quick access to basic features, if you want to truly see what you can do you're gonna wanna dial in to this router. If you don't know what I mean then it's not something you should be doing because while this router has some great features you can also completely hose your network and spend more time hitting the reset button and setting everything up over and over than enjoying the speed of this thing. Pros: Powerfull, Internal Software very robust, looks cool, all current WiFi frequency. Cons: HUGE for a router, Genie software is awful, even internal interface feels dated, most likely will not improve distance

Awesome Router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Went in to the store because i was in the market for a computer. After discussing my requirements with the store manager he began to discuss internet speed and capabilities. During our conversation he made me realize that my internet was under-perfomring even though i was paying top dollar for service. Man am i happy i spoke to him and he sold me this router. It works great. I can walk around my house with out loosing internet bandwidth. I now get 50 mps all over my house, even with 5 devices connected. I am really please with this router that i am now installing another one at my parents house. Yes, its a little bit expensive, but its worth the money

Outstanding stability and coverage...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Updated the firmware before major usage. Outstanding stability with no drops yet. Outstanding coverage using the different bands. No connectivity problems with a mixed variety of devices. Very pleased with this unit and by far the best wireless router I've owned to date. Don't walk... run to get one!

Nighthawk Shines
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After originally having a router provided by Our old ISP, Frontier, this has been quite the upgrade. I would experience frequent downtimes or slowdowns when having multiple users connected to our WiFi or when downloading something. After switching from Frontier to a fiber service, we went with the 500mbps plan and this router which has been able to keep up entirely. Being a tri-band router, I have never experienced any downtimes or slowdowns. We have an average two story colonial home, and the range is wonderful from inside and outside our house. The router is also completely silent, while a little large. However, the looks of it make guests interested in it. The app functionality is also great. You can quickly manage the router wherever, whenever. You can also see which users are connected to the internet and can use family controls if needed. Although it’s pricey, I highly recommend this router to anyone using high speed internet living in an average sized family home.

Worth every penny!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our son bought this wireless router to resolve issues we had with our Belkin AC1200 DB router constantly wigging out and dropping signal. (Believe me, he was wigging out just as much himself every time he was dumped from a game or lost signal while watching something on Netflix). This Netgear Nighthawk router is the bomb! We haven't had one problem with it since we've had it (over a month or two now). Great signal strength. Solid construction. Doesn't overheat easily. This bad boy works seamlessly with our Motorolla Arris Surfboard SB6183. It has been 100% reliable in my home business use, which requires a dependable Internet connection. The only drawback, which is purely subjective, is its giant nanobot appearance (total oxymoron, I know). So, basically, if you're cool with displaying your inner-nerdness, rock your awesomeness and put this on your friggin' coffee table! Otherwise, a cozy little corner out of sight will do just fine w/o loss of signal.

Rating this is difficult. Setup or performance.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup is a two star rating. Apparently the device was defective but the tech service person was not able to determine why the device would not work. They wanted $199.00 to help get it operational. When they took over my screen, they still could not get it to work. The charge was never put through. The device was returned to BB and the replacement works well. Which is part 2 of the rating. The performance is five star. Much better that the standard Time Warner unit. It was so weak that our TVs couldn't connect (DTV).

Excellent speeds, no downtime, slick appearance!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So as an IT Engineer my apartment is an interconnected smart device shrine! I have so many wireless and smart devices, security system, ESXi server hosting game and media servers, website, etc.. The built in Dual-Band WiFi on my Aeris Time Warner cable modem had hit the wall with max devices reached, and max firewall rules.Maybe I have too much stuff? :p The setup of the Nighthawk was intuitive and very easy using the Netgear Genie application. I was able to connect the Nighthawk directly to my existing router. While setting up the Nighthawk I maintained the same SSIDs and passwords as my existing 2.5GHz and 5GHz connections from the Time Warner cable modem's AP. Once configured I disabled the WiFi on the Time Warner modem and turned on the Nighthawk. The result is my devices did not skip a beat, I didn't have to reconfigure any of them for the new WiFi, which would have been the hugest pain point here as I have so many devices I could be my own Best Buy. The ONLY annoyance I have with this device is you cannot access the internal router configuration from Ethernet. So my Desktop that is connected via Ethernet to the TWC Cable modem cannot log into the Nighthawk to make changes, even though both routers are interconnected with Cat6. A device, in this case my Desktop PC, needs to be connected to the Nighthawk's WiFi in order to log into the router and make settings changes. Not a huge deal, just slightly annoying because my Desktop does not use WiFi, so if I want to re-configure the Nighthawk router I need to use a laptop or other WiFi enabled mobile device and connect it to the Nighthawks WiFi. All in all a great purchase!

Netgear Nighthawk
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is awesome and it was super simple to setup. I got it for work, so that our guest can use our wifi free, without having to pay or get a password. It was easy to segregate the guest ports from the rest of the system, now I have no worries that our guest will somehow be able to back into our network. Plus, the thing looks like a techno spider, who wouldn't love that!

Really fast
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router works great. Super easy to setup with the nighthawk app. We had fiber installed and this thing is fast! No issues streaming multiple devices. No buffering on 4K content even with two TVs. It’s not worth the retail price, but was worth the sale price.

Great distance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My biggest issue with routers today is lack of distance they can reach. When they first came out you could be any where and get service. Through the years, it just got bad. To the point you need to buy extenders just to reach one side of the house to the other. BUT, this router was great. I have a 3 floor house, about 3 thousand square feet and the night hawk does the job with no issues. I had two Playstation, 2 lab tops n a room filled with people using the WiFi n it did not slow down. Great job netgear for making a product that works well n does what it says it can do. Only down fall is the price, but not having to use extenders helps.

This worked Great out of the box
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This worked great right out of the box-I gave it 5 stars however to use the extra 2 fastest "channels" of this router, you will have to look it up on the net, as the instructions are not that good You will get the regular "channel" "netgear89" right out of the box (by the way they say the password at unboxing is "admin" for user and the password is "password" This is the password for the router but not wifi. Do not confuse that with the wifi password which it assigns automatically. "admin" and "password' will not get you set up on wi-fi. for your phone or other wifi devices. Follow the website noted in the instructions (Something like "routernetwork.org" or something like that and once there you will find your wifi passwords and names of for all 3 "channels.") Mr Burk

Great range, great speed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded from 3 month old dual band to this tri-band and got better range and much faster throughput. App for phone and computer worked well in setup. Setup not complicated. Did not clearly explain of the band choices, how I should decide which band to select from my mobile or wireless computing device when logging in, and whether to use same or different passwords for those log-ins.

Wonderful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn’t want to spend this much money but after talking to the specialist and getting an understanding I went against my better judgment and bought it. Boy was I surprised! It performs at a superior/elite level and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. We have a huge family of six people all using the internet simultaneously and we don’t receive any slowdowns whatsoever since we purchased this router.

Powerful router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I live in a large old house and my old, mid priced router was initially doing a decent job. There were areas of the house were the router signal would periodically drop and this was improved when I got a repeater. As I started adding more and more devices to my wireless network, dropped signals started to become more and more of an issue. When I covered just about every area of the house with a Sonos system, dropped router connections really became an issue. I currently have about 27 devices connected to the network. Did some research and decided upon this Netgear Nighthawk product. I have it installed at one corner of the first floor on the north side of my two story home. Very happy with the performance. It very powerfully connects and reaches every area of my 5,000 square foot home save for the extreme southern part on the second floor, where it still provides coverage that I was previously unable to have. Quite satisfied and highly recommended for someone with similar conditions to mine.

Good Buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a very good router for a big house. It works great in multi floor environment. Problem - It need frequent reboot, at least twice a week. I don't mind rebooting as it only takes a minute to do so, but it is frustrating if you want to do something and realize your net is slow and need a router reboot. I wish if its software or app could support scheduling a reboot. Also price is too high, but can not complain because it eliminate my need to add range extenders.
