Before writing this review, I wanted to wait at least 3 months just to provide a more accurate description of the performance and reliability of the router. Setting it up was very easy (should also be the case for others who are new to installing routers) and took about 15 minutes to complete. The Nighthawk has been performing flawlessly. The speeds are extremely high for wired and Wi-Fi connections, has been lag free for gaming and socializing with your friends on PC and consoles, streaming on Netflix, HBO, Hulu, etc. has been buffer free and can handle 4K streaming with no issue (should also handle 8K streaming well when that eventually becomes mainstream), internet browsing works great as load times are extremely fast and recommend using one of the 5G networks if you are using Wi-Fi to get the best performance, and no issues when video conferencing or using FaceTime. Despite the high price of the router, it's definitely worth investing in as it should last 5 to 7 years. I recommend getting it if you plan to have 12 or more devices connected to the router or live in a household with 5 or more people that requires a router that can handle the traffic.

I have owned this wireless router for quite a while now and have been very happy with the performance & coverage I get with it. However, I ran into an issue a couple months back as the firmware would just not update. I had to get the unit RMA'd as the firmware I was on would not allow for upgrading or downgrading and it was just perpetually stuck on the firmware it was on. Please be mindful of this and search/research the firmware version you are on AND the firmware version you are upgrading to on its settings. I know that automatic updates are great for most users, but I would recommend turning them off and just manually updating it every few weeks or once a month.

I have now purchased TWO of the NG NH X6S AC4000. You can't go wrong with this AC4000 in terms of speed, reliability, compatibility with a wide range of existing devices and ease of use. The NG remote app actually works for ease of adjusting settings via iPhone. I have a large house and paired this up with a NG NH access point and get good (wireless) reception in another from it. Also, installed one of these in a church sanctuary and the wireless signal is practical for light video streaming for at least 300 feet, and that is through multiple walls. Also, the Ethernet port is good for pumping a solid signal (wired) on standard Ethernet cable 300 feet. At the end of that, the Ethernet is plugged into another wireless router in another building that extended the signal (on the 300' wired connection) to 400 feet. Solid, stable, reliable product for home or business. Highly recommended if you want a "pain free" and powerful solution that won't break the bank.

Great router with phnamenal range. Solved the resetting issue. See below..... *** ATTENTION TO ALL REVIEWERS *** In terms of resetting the router almost on daily bases, you need to download the latest firmware, THEN.....do a hard rest in order for the firmware to take affect. You will never have to reset ever again! Netgear genie is a must have app! Hope that helped!

The X6S offers solid performance/throughout and range- however its latest firmware is not quite firm. The router will occasionally lose its settings on reboot. Making simple QOS changes on individual devices will trigger reboots. The NAS software is buggy and can trigger blue screens- particularly if the computer is on wireless. I also experienced occasional loss in wifi connectivity. Finally, many of its advanced features are overkill for most users. However, the latter can be said about many of its high end router competition- flaky firmware is not however the case with most of the competition..

My last router (by ASUS), which was only one year old, got fried during a lightning strike that took out a lot of electronic devices in my home despite having surge protectors. Although the ASUS delivered excellent performance, their customer service was horrible. I need a quick replacement so I went to my local Best Buy. My first and second choices were not in stock. I decided on the Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 5 Router because it was in stock and priced reasonably. It has turned out to meet or exceed all my expections. It was easy to setup and I noticed my network derives are responding much faster. I am also able to get a signal from my dock which is at least 75 yards away from my house. I would recommend this to anyone considering on getting a new router.

This tri-band wireless router is outstanding. It is lightning fast and easy to setup. I replaced a mesh WiFi system with this. This is way faster, has a much greater range and is more reliable. It can handle all of our streaming and gaming needs.

Definitely provides faster speeds than our old router-and covers a good area with no signal loss. It makes no noise, and is easy to use. It does, however take up a bit more space than a vertical router-and it's not the most visually appealing router I've owned. The only issue we had was setup (with verizon). The router wouldn't recognize the internet, so customer service had to help us tweak some manual settings. They were super easy to work with!

Decent Router, Decent Specs, Firmware Buggy

Solid specifications and Decent Coverage. Dual core CPU, And Now supports Netgear Armor and Circle! Tri-Band and all bands allow for stable connectivity! Each band supports 3x3 radios which provide decent speed and coverage, and overall quite reliable. A few firmware bugs include the QoS / Device list. It often becomes corrupt and device types and connection types get mixed up. The router begins to display wireless devices as wired, and some wired devices as wireless. QoS seems to be inconsistent, perhaps related to this issue. Feature parity between the Nighthawk mobile app and the Web GUI does not exist. For example to enable/disable Netgear Armor you need to use the Mobile App. To configure IPv6 you need to use the Web Interface. Surely one management interface could be used for everything? Also Netgear Support at all levels is disappointing. Level 1 is uninformed, Level 2 is not empowered to do anything, and Level 3 uses Level 2 staff to stall / buy time instead of fix issues. But back to the hardware: Device runs warm. but NOT hot (this is a good thing). The dual-core CPU is very powerful and seems to have plenty of headroom. The wireless radios appear very reliable, I've never had any random device drops. MU-MIMO actually seems to work well. LAN port performance seems to sustain Gigabit speeds for fast data transfers. Low latency, great for gaming and even using it for SIP calls without issues. Over 30 WiFi devices attaching including security cameras, all stay connected reliably. Overall, a great value router that's VERY powerful, reasonably priced.

    X6S is amazing router

Returned NETGEAR X6 for X6S paid extra $50 but is worth it. I was hesitate after I’ve read a lot of negative reviews about X6S from all sources. But I give it a try and I’m sastified. X6S is super fast I can tell the difference right away compared with X6. I have 1000Mbps download speed. X6S capped at 633Mbps on 5G band. X6S is the best router so far. I also tested ASUS RT AC88U. ASUS RT AC88U was slow and capped at 470Mbps.

This is my second Netgear nighthawk and it is amazing the only reason I had to buy a second is I left mine at my parents when I moved out. The WiFi range and performance is significantly better than the ISP router and setting it up too maybe 15 minutes. It has made a huge difference in a house of so many people and devices. Used to be frustrating to use the internet, now loads at 200-400 MBPS anywhere in the house. I love Netgear products and the nighthawk is by far the best router.

This router has a great feature set and is easy to set up. The speed is great with many devices connected. The only issue I ran into was that the router kept dropping connections. I traced the issue back to many other similar routers in the neighborhood, all using similar overlapping channels. Once I changed my channels from the default to non-overlapping less common channels, the problem went away.

Easy to set up overall, although I did need to contact the NETGEAR helpdesk due to a forgotten password, the recovery of which was complicated because of another NETGEAR Nighthawk router I have for my kid in college. The wireless coverage seems very complete through the entire house and the internet speeds are fast. Also like being able to check on the status of the router from my phone.

This router broadcasts well in our 2800 sq fr house, through three floors. It was easy to set up and control through the app. I would have given it 5 stars, the footprint is large. If there was a way to build it up instead of out, it would be the perfect router. It is handling over 10 devices and streaming is seamless. No problems.

This is the first router I've ever had to set-up on my onw. Plug and play. Was up and running with-in 5-10 minutes. Great coverage throughout our 3000 sf home. Router is centrally located. Using with Digital Path and a point to point antenna to my shop. I've seen download speeds to 45mps and upload to 15mps. Very happy with the Nighthawk.

This is my 3rd Netgear Router I have ever owned and it has been an excellent experience in use and setup. I purchased this router when I moved from a house to an Apartment. The unit was Purchased from Best Buy and on sale. My old router could not handle the 30 plus wi-fi signals at the new location. With over 10 Wi-Fi devices in my home and the need for great, fast wi-fi, I thought I would try this router. To set up, I downloaded the Recommended Netgear app onto my iPhone and followed the directions exactly. I have Spectrum Internet service with the cable modem they provided. Set up was so easy and all my devices work great. I use it with a pc, Apple tv, Apple smart speakers, iPhone, iPad, smart lights and more. I have the unit connected to a back up- UPS power supply and sitting on a computer desk. I set it up to work automatically selecting the best band and channels for the device in use. Super fast and no interference from neighbors. Thanks Netgear for a great product.

I got this last week as a replacement for my TP Link Deco and had a terrible time with the app. I changed the password and then couldn't log in. I retrieved it and was finally able to log in but after spending 2 hours on the phone with Netgear, which couldn't solve the problem. Then after about a day my PS4 wouldn't connect to the WiFi. Never had a problem connecting to my previous 2 routers that I have. So I had to connect to it wired with my old router as an Access Point. I got this router with hopes of consolidating and not have more then one router connected. I got great speeds on the device just app issues and connection issues. The speed doesn't matter if I can't connect to it.

So far so good. Bought this one to replace an older netgear model 750 after so many years of use and one band had started failing. As far as the netgear nighthawk, is working as it should. Easy set up and links you to your established account for netgear. No need to open another one. Easy app installation on your mobile device and Genie app sync with nighthawk app. Netgear has made the process quite easy and less cumbersome as from the older models. I like the style of this router and ease of use. Like the fact it has a WiFi OFF button available. Nice improvement. Older model didn’t have it. Nicely well designed and it’s features are excellent, especially the extra bands and processor speed is great. I only have it a week and the difference in performance is outstanding so far. Word to the wise if you purchase this unit update the software when prompted. Don’t skip this firmware update. Lots of flexibility in assigning bands to different devices for better performance.
