Amazing router
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the X6S after reading what seemed like thousands of reviews of this router and similar routers. I could not be happier with my decision. This router provides a significant increase in both the distance from the cable modem/router as well as a better, more consistent signal. When we recently moved into a rental home, I found out that it had a single active CAT5 port for the entire home, which was located on the complete opposite side of my office. The cable modem/router barely got a signal to my office and my computer was routinely dropping the signal. Since setting up this router my computer only works much better, but I can stream video to my phone while working as well. I was worried I was going to need to get an extender as well, but this router covers the entire house without fail.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced my old router and two extenders with nighthawk and long it. The speed and coverage is spectacular. I have as many as 25 devices at once and have no problem with any and still stream tv perfectly.

Great choice for my home!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Went over all the features I wanted with the guys at the store. Came to a choice between 2. I chose the Nighthawk. It has been a dramatic improvement over the older unit I had. It routinely puts through 475-480. I’m very pleased so far.

Beware NETGEAR's warranty
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the router itself is very good. I've pretty much used Netgear products exclusively in the past, and I bought the R8000P to replace an aging Nighthawk R7000 (which is now set up as a wired access point in the basement). The speeds are great, and the tri-band is useful for segregating the kids' streaming/gaming from the business use. So overall, it's a good product. The issue came when the firmware was updated to version V1.4.1.50_1.3.10. As documented on several online forums (including Netgear's own Community Support forum), once this firmware was installed, it prevented any future firmware upgrades/downgrades, even with a factory reset or attempting to flash a new firmware via TFTP. Even though the router is currently functioning well, it poses a security risk, as future security holes will not be patched. The only known fix is an exchange for a new unit, and NOT allowing V1.4.1.50_1.3.10 to be installed. For newer units, this likely won't be an issue. However, I would probably disable automatic firmware updates - at least initially - to make sure this version does not get installed. The larger issue is Netgear's support and warranty. By default, upon registering the product, the buyer receives a free 90-day support window (from the purchase date). The product has a 1-year warrantee. I encountered the firmware issue in the 3-6 month timeframe. As a result, the only way Netgear would even CONSIDER a warrantee replacement was for me to purchase an extended support contract, so one of their support staff could evaluate the issue and determine if it needed to be sent in or replaced. As this is a well-documented issue that Netgear is definitely aware of, there should be no evaluation necessary - it's a simple warranty replacement. What good is a 1-year warrantee if you need to pay a fairly large fee to get them to process it? Some users on the forums did pay for the extended support, and received replacement units. Others were denied a replacement for unknown reasons. I chose not to gamble, and did not purchase the extended support. I will be putting that money toward a new non-Netgear router, likely an ASUS. Once again - so far, this seems like a good router. However, if you are going to have any potential warranty issues, hopefully they will happen during the first 90 days. Otherwise, it will cost $50 or more for Netgear to even consider a replacement.

Beast!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is awesome. My modem was only getting 300 mbps in my house. And would not cover the entire house. Now I’m getting the 1000mbps I’m paying for and it reaches my mailbox and the fence in my back yard. Would buy again.

Excellent Product
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned this router for several months before lightning struck my house and ruined it. It was an excellent router. Its easy to setup, and you can scan the QR code to direct connect devices such as your phone. I really liked how i could select which devices i wanted to be on each band. I have a lot of devices in my home and many of them run on different frequencies, choosing the band they run on allows me to free up the bandwith on the higher frequencies. I also liked how i could prioritize devices on my network. When i replaced this product i got an upgraded version, but this product was definitely a good value.

Love Netgear but not sure on this one.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This replaced my aging Nighthawk ac1900 model r700. I was looking forward to the extended rang and extra 5ghz band. Although the ac4000 performs just as good as my ac1900 there are few added benefits. The rang on the 2.4 and 5 ghz bands are increased, however slightly. The main reason for a 2 star deduction is the reliability of the 5ghz bands and the random factory reset I have experienced in the short time I have been using this router. I often have to switch my den pc from one 5ghz band to the other because they fell every few days. While I don't have this problem with the 2.4 I prefer to run that pc on the 5 due to it being built as an entertainment center for streaming movies, tv, music ect. I also just recently experienced a random reset to factory specs. While streaming a show I lost signal on all bands. When I logged into the routers interface it was as if I was setting it up for the first time. Though I have had my issues with this model, I would still recommend it over some competing models. However, if you already have a decent Ac router like the Nighthawk 1900 and are looking to upgrade, you won't notice much of a difference.

So far so good...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was worried about this purchase considering some of the other reviews I had read on the Best Buy site. I have had this router for about a month now. It was very easy to setup and has been running non-stop since. I have it in an upstairs back bedroom that serves as my office. Our house, at any given time can have 3 - 5 cell phones; one to two TVs; and three or four computers connected via wireless all at the same time without issue. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is due to the length of time I have had it. Once I have had it for a couple of months I'll change my review; but for now it was a great purchase.

Pretty high performer
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this router to replace the one that crapped out on me in the middle of my work day. I had high expectations for the amount of money I was about to spend but I wanted something high-quality and capable of reliable throughput. I have to say this did not disappoint. The setup process was completely different than what I'm used to so that was interesting and the performance is high enough to handle the streaming demands of my children's elementary schoolwork, my oldest's college coursework and my daily and almost non-stop video-conferencing throughout the day. At night I can stream tv throughout the house and effectively game at the same time with no issue. I am not disappointed.
