You...... mesh router perspective buyer, run don't walk away from netgear/orbi and tp link/deco for that matter. Here is why.
I switched to the orbi 770 series because of the ongoing tp link banning talks and having multiple devices and users passwords stolen while having a deco 75 pro system. I have done this at two large homes having 4+ routers/nodes each, purchasing 3 sets of the 770 units for a grand total of over $3000. Comparatively speaking orbi has worked ok but had limitations like having a less useful app, and being considerably more expensive. I know I upgraded from wifi6e to wifi7, but this was the only netgear mesh offering that has 2.5gbps ethernet compatibility. I was willing to live with these issues in the name of security.
I have put a fair amount of time in to setting up this system at two locations: main network, guest network, iot network, port forwarding several devices, setting up static ip's, custom ip range etc. Port forwarding works for some ports I opened but not for others so my devices are inaccessible off network. Enabling vlan tagging or bridge mode to specific ethernet ports just drops internet connection for the entire network.
Offering "VPN service" is deliberately misleading. Is this client or server? Considering the price point I would expect both but given the processor and ram in this unit the server side would be fairly limited, plus I would think most customers would be interested in vpn client to add a extra layer of protection for their networks. Come to find out no you only get a limited vpn server and no client compatibility.
Over the last few days while trying to troubleshoot some of these issues I have encountered more. The orbi app has stopped allowing me to view my network saying issues connecting to network, despite still sending me notifications when new devices are connected -- so I know it is still connected to the routers. Next the admin ui is completely blocked as well. I have tried using different: browsers, devices, operating systems, wifi vs hardwired and permutations of this... nothing no access. After reading forum after forum this seams to have been and continues to be an issue for netgear and orbi after firmware updates leading most to factory reset the device. I cannot do this as I have no backups of the setting -- after all I was still setting the thing up.
I'm out of the window to return on one of these units thanks best buy for the 14 day window, and now I have come to find out that netgear is now selling this unit for $800 per, not the $1000 I payed per unit to best buy. I will be returning what i can.
I'm less upset with best buy and more with netgear. I fully expect netgear to send some "hi valued customer" message, with here are some auto or ai generated not helpful troubleshooting tips. This review is not for them, this review is for the person who has read this far. You mesh router perspective buyer, run don't walk away from orbi/netgear and tp link for that matter.
Netgear seriously do better and don't advertise things that you cant do!

When experiencing an issue accessing your Orbi Web GUI via http://orbilogin.com, we recommend trying to access via different web browsers including Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Safari.
When setting up a bridge for a port group or VLAN tag group, please ensure your Router is in Router mode, and not AP mode. In the Orbi Web GUI, Select ADVANCED > Advanced > Router / AP Mode, and select the Router Mode radio button. After ensuring your Router is in Router mode, please follow the steps found in the User Manual beginning on page 87: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBE773/RBE771_RBE770_UM.pdf.

Not as strong or as reliable as previous version. Regret upgrading. First one had a broken satellite right out of the box. Had to return to the store for exchange. Next one had difficulties establishing a stable network. Took a factory reset and a long time with Netgear customer support. Should be able to cover large range than my previous model but that isn't the case and the speeds are slower at a distance. Very disappointed. If I hadn't sold my previous system, I would return this one.
It's ONLY redeeming features is the high speed port out the back.

Pretty much trash unless you have satellites wired. One of my satellites (now that it is no longer wired to the main network) disconnects multiple times a day. Save yourself some hassle and fine a better product if your satellites need to be wireless.

Even with latest firmware in less than a week the connection speed drops down to less than 1Mbps upload download speed before rebooting, then after rebooting the satellites don’t come back online. Right after rebooting my connection speed is over 750 Mbps to my iPhone 16 Pro. Netgear tech-support had me to switch frequencies. I have yet to see any performance/reliability improvement between any frequency.

Constantly drops connection

While the mesh system seems to be okay, the issue is that the router constantly drops connection and attempts to assign ip addresses to devices already connected to the network. The ISP gateway has been set to bridge mode, so it is not an issue of a double nat. After hard resetting the device multiple times, using only the router with no satellites, and firmware updates, it's time to give up on Orbi. The older netgear xr1000 is working fine, so it is not an isp issue either.
We'd greatly appreciate any additional feedback if the steps provided helped to resolve the issue with connectivity you have been experiencing as well as to follow up with you. Please reach out to us at [email protected] with your contact information, and we will be happy to help you.

Hi roxy,
Thank you for your review and valuable feedback. We would like an opportunity to improve your experience with connectivity while connected to your RBE773. Orbi Mesh WiFi 7 networks are encrypted with WPA2-PSK + WPA3-Personal encryption by default. This is because it is the best blend of compatibility and security available. However, some devices such as printers, smart devices (IoT), and older devices are not compatible with this level of encryption. For these devices to work, you must connect them to a network with a lower level of encryption. For more information, please visit the following link: https://kb.netgear.com/000066695/How-to-resolve-issues-connecting-devices-to-your-NETGEAR-WiFi-7-network.
If you're still experiencing any issues, please reach out to us at [email protected] — we’re happy to help! If your experience has improved, we’d really appreciate an updated review.

Would not purchase again. Bought to replace 5 year old netgear nighthawk equipment. This was not a upgrade, coverage is not better and intermittent connectivity is a issue. Will drop on some things but not other then vice versa while sitting beside each other and connected the same way. Netgears customer service of no help, should have returned but now stuck and wasted over $900.00. Will probably install old equipment back and use these for paper weights.
