Customers are pleased with the Orbi 970 Series BE27000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System's speed and coverage, and many found the setup to be easy. The system also delivers great performance, ease of use, and range with amazing signal strength throughout the house. However, some customers have experienced connectivity issues and find the price to be a concern, while others feel the router is large.

For a $2k system, I expected the little things to work better. The app was okay but I couldnt do any speed checks and opened support tickets which didnt help anything at all. I followed the instructions given (which didnt let the speed test work) and just ended up returning it for another brand.

The Orbi 970 series is unreliable at best - AVOID!

I'm no stranger to Netgear Orbi mesh Wi-Fi - I had two previous versions of Orbi and they generally performed well. Due to the cost of the Orbi Wi-Fi 7 systems, this was not my first choice. A year ago, I purchased the TP-Link Deco BE85 and I have to say, while it had a few quirks, it performed exceptionally well in my home. I abandoned it due to the security concerns surrounding TP-Link as a brand and began the search for a Wi-Fi 7 alternative. I tried the eero Max 7 first to see if it would fit my needs - while the Max 7 is generally adequate in terms of range and performance, I did have some device connection stability issues and more important, it was missing a lot in terms of feature set that the Orbi offers (i.e. managing everything via browser, being able to manually set Wi-Fi channels when needed, advanced networking functions, etc.). I've had this Orbi system in place for 6 days at this point. Setup was painfully slow as many reviews have indicated, it took about 25 minutes - but thankfully that's a one-time issue, I can live with that. Coverage as compared to the eero Max 7 is definitely better - the Orbi has greater range and faster speeds. The Wi-Fi 7 MLO option is enabled by default and works very well, it provides fantastic throughput (I currently have 3 Wi-Fi 7 devices - two iPhone 16 Pro phones and an Asus Zenbook S 14). What I can't live with is reliability issues - particularly at this exorbitant price point. Bear in mind, the system is running the latest available firmware - which incidentally I had to manually download as the auto-update feature didn't offer it. The issue I'm having is this system randomly reboots for no discernable reason. It's been happening anywhere from 2 to 4 times per day - which is a disaster when working from home and suddenly your connection is gone for 3 to 5 minutes while the Orbi restarts itself. The router logs accessible via browser inexplicably start fresh after a reboot, so there is no way to go back to investigate what might have triggered the reboot. Super frustrating! A cursory search online indicates the Orbi 970 series suffers from overheating, which may well be the case as there is no internal cooling fan. However, given that it's January/February and I keep my home at 70F, and the router/satellites are in open spaces, this shouldn't be an issue. The Orbi 970 series is a complete disappointment, and I will be retuning it - for better or worse I'm going back to TP-Link, waiting for a Deco BE95 system to arrive.

I love this unit. With its quad band and the ability to have up to 200 devices, it’s what I needed. I’m getting upload and download speeds of around 2569Mbps and with its 10gb ports transferring files and videos is an ease. With the router and two satellites, total coverage is fantastic.

This is a great system from Orbi. Don’t have anything else to compare. This system eliminates the need of multiple satellites you need to improve your coverage. This will improve efficiency and productivity. Definitely recommend it, even though it’s little costly but worth every penny.

I purchased a new NETGEAR - Nighthawk Mid/High-Split DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem and an Orbi 970 three pack (BOTH products made by the same company, Netgear, with a combined retail price of circa $2600). The Orbi 970 would not recognize the new Netgear cable modem. I then called Orbi technical support. Orbi technical support suggested that I first set up the modem with the Orbi 850 WiFi 6 mesh router that I was replacing. When I asked Orbi technical assistance to guide me though this setup so we could then set up the Orbi 970 router Orbi support wanted to charge me a technical support consultation fee because the Orbi 850 was out of warranty. This intermediary setup is exactly what Orbi technical support suggested to be done because THEY couldn’t figure out how to set up a NEW Netgear cable modem with a NEW Netgear router. ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS! I hung up on the Orbi technical support bandit and figured out the setup myself. I concluded Orbi technical support primarily exists to market extended service contracts and collect paid consulting fees rather than help their customers, regardless of how much they just spent on their Netgear Orbi equipment.

Replaced my 5 year old Amplifi Alien mesh system with router and 3 satellites with the Orbi 970 with 2 satellites. Was expecting some work with 65 devices attached in a two story 8,000 sq ft home. The Orbi app worked perfectly. Both satellites are hard wired. WIFI coverage is excellent with top speed of 980/980. All devices connected as soon as system was powered up. Very happy with the upgrade.

First of all their disconnect problems never goes away. Support is pretty much waste of time as they ask you to reboot or switch power cords or remove a unit or backwire satelites. Whats the point when you backwire then backhaul feature is waste and you can go with a simple 300$ router and a switch or may be a range extender they work better i believe. This is my 3rd orbi spent more than 3.5k on these routers and still not getting proper link its just reboots in middle of a meeting. I work in IT so has network knowlege this router is not better than a 500$ orbi other than you get wifi and may be a little better wifi if works. So think or research before wasting hard earned money.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate your feedback and we want you to know that your experience is important to us. We're sorry to hear that you are still experiencing disconnect problems with your RBE973S after speaking with Support. For more information and directions, please visit the following resource: https://kb.netgear.com/000066695/How-to-resolve-issues-connecting-devices-to-your-NETGEAR-WiFi-7-network.

If your disconnections are with the Orbi RBE973S Router and Satellites, we recommend ensuring your RBE973S Router and Satellites are on the most recent firmware, v9.13.1.2: https://kb.netgear.com/000066739/RBE970-RBE971-Firmware-Version-9-13-1-2. If your connections are not connected via Ethernet Backhaul, we also recommend resyncing your Orbi Satellites and Router, beginning in the same room and moving out to the intended location: https://kb.netgear.com/31018/How-do-I-sync-my-Orbi-router-and-satellite.

I purchased the Orbi 970 3 pack along with one additional satellite, have been using it for several weeks now and it has exceeded my expectations. I have a 3000+ square foot house with AT&T Fiber and get amazing speeds anywhere in my house and even across the street in my neighbors house. At the router, I get speeds of 950MB both up and down, on my iPhone 13 Pro, I get 750MB down and 900MB up, on my Alienware laptop I get at least 750MB up and down. I also have over 70 connected devices from multiple TV's, gaming systems, multiple phones and ipads, 10 Sonos speakers, 4 Nest Protects and 2 interior 4k cameras, Ring Doorbell, NVR security system with 10 4k cameras, Rachio smart sprinkler controller, Tempest weather system and other various smart devices. I currently have the newest firmware version of V9.11.1.1_1.2.2 and have not experienced any issues with internet connectivity (that some other purchasers have had). Again, I am extremely impressed with this systems performance and would highly recommend. One suggestion I would have for system improvement from a security perspective would be adding functionality for geo-blocking.

I’ve been a loyal Netgear customer for over a decade, but the Orbi 970 series has been the most disappointing device I’ve ever purchased. While it performed well for the first few months, I now experience constant dropped WiFi connections and unreliable mesh handoffs between the satellite and the main Orbi router. What’s worse is the customer support experience. Despite spending countless hours on the phone and exchanging dozens of emails, Netgear has refused to honor the warranty and replace the faulty units. Each time, I’m asked to troubleshoot yet again, resulting in another 1–2 hours of wasted time—without resolution. Netgear will do whatever they can to get out of honoring their warranty. For what is marketed as a premium mesh system(one of the most expensive on the market), I expected a much higher standard of performance and support. At this point, I’m strongly considering switching to UniFi's Mesh system and leaving Netgear for good.

If you want the best and to be future proofed then this it the mesh system you need. Upgraded from the 750 series and speeds are truly gigabit now. The backhaul is amazing and IoT option makes connecting smart lights, etc easy. WiFi speeds went from 200-400 to 500-800, covers entire 4000sqft house and entire backyard.

Overall the Orbi routers were great when they worked! They delivered faster WiFi speeds than when we had the Google Nest Pods, security was great, moving all of our devices such as ring cameras had no problem, but the only and extremely frustrating problem was it would drop the internet connection from our Xfinity modem, which is the most up to date version, and the routers had no light indicating something was wrong. We checked to make sure the modem didn’t lose connection, but everything on Xfinity’s side was fine, and when we checked the Orbi app, it would say there’s a problem, so we unplugged them all, plugged it back in, and then it was fine. The last time it dropped the connection, the orbi routers had a magenta light, indicating it was not getting an internet connection, and once again, everything was fine on Xfinity’s end. When we finally called netgear/orbi customer support they were awful, the first advisor did not understand what the problem was because we would explain the orbi wasn’t getting the internet connection, he would say, “Well, you need to connect it to the internet,” which was the very problem, everything was plugged in and set to how it should be, but the Orbi was not taking the connection. Then the first advisor said they were having computer problems and would call back in 15 minutes, but never did. So when we called back an hour later, we got an advisor who was more knowledgeable, was able to do a full network reset and we were supposed to be able to set it up like a new network through a link they sent, but that did not load at all. Then, the advisor started having phone issues making it difficult to hear them, which ultimately sealed the decision to return the product after having it for only 1 month.

Upgrading from Orbi 6E mesh system and this is hands down the best router I've used. Set up is incredibly easy and much easer compared to previous Orbi models. I could probably do fine without the 2 satellites but the speed does dip a little when you get a few hundred feet away using 1 router. I get about 1.5Gbps using wifi 6e devices.

Stay away from this product. I have used Netgear products in my home and office for years and have always had great customer service prior to this. I spent $2,100 thinking i was getting the best wifi system for my home now i have nothing but connection issues. I will lose connectivity to devices for no reason and you have to unplug the main wifi to get it to reset. I have had an "open" case with Netgear since January 2025 with no less than 10 emails back and forth plus an hour and half on the phone troubleshooting to no avail. They promised after the last "firmware" manual update the issue would be fixed but it didn't. Now they say it's possible I have too many devices connected. However, the literature states it can handle 200 devices and i don't have anywhere near that number. I understand devices have issues and need to be fixed my main issue is the lack of care from customer service. They got my $2,100 so now I'm the technician that needs to figure the issue out. They send "possible" fixes via email that take an hour plus and just expect you to do it.
