I don’t typically write reviews, but my satisfaction with the Orbi 970 compels me to share my experience. I hope this review helps others in their decision-making process. After being a loyal Linksys fan for years, I recently upgraded to the Velop Pro 7. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Despite spending countless hours troubleshooting with Linksys tech support, I could never achieve the advertised Wi-Fi speeds.
Frustrated, I decided to return the Velop Pro 7 and opted for the Orbi 970 after conducting thorough research. I’m thrilled with my decision! The Orbi 970 delivers exceptional Wi-Fi speeds and coverage throughout our 3,800 square-foot home and even extends well beyond the house. This mesh system has truly exceeded my expectations.

Stay away from this product. I have used Netgear products in my home and office for years and have always had great customer service prior to this. I spent $2,100 thinking i was getting the best wifi system for my home now i have nothing but connection issues. I will lose connectivity to devices for no reason and you have to unplug the main wifi to get it to reset. I have had an "open" case with Netgear since January 2025 with no less than 10 emails back and forth plus an hour and half on the phone troubleshooting to no avail. They promised after the last "firmware" manual update the issue would be fixed but it didn't. Now they say it's possible I have too many devices connected. However, the literature states it can handle 200 devices and i don't have anywhere near that number. I understand devices have issues and need to be fixed my main issue is the lack of care from customer service. They got my $2,100 so now I'm the technician that needs to figure the issue out. They send "possible" fixes via email that take an hour plus and just expect you to do it.

I’ve been a loyal Netgear customer for over a decade, but the Orbi 970 series has been the most disappointing device I’ve ever purchased. While it performed well for the first few months, I now experience constant dropped WiFi connections and unreliable mesh handoffs between the satellite and the main Orbi router.
What’s worse is the customer support experience. Despite spending countless hours on the phone and exchanging dozens of emails, Netgear has refused to honor the warranty and replace the faulty units. Each time, I’m asked to troubleshoot yet again, resulting in another 1–2 hours of wasted time—without resolution. Netgear will do whatever they can to get out of honoring their warranty.
For what is marketed as a premium mesh system(one of the most expensive on the market), I expected a much higher standard of performance and support. At this point, I’m strongly considering switching to UniFi's Mesh system and leaving Netgear for good.

First of all their disconnect problems never goes away. Support is pretty much waste of time as they ask you to reboot or switch power cords or remove a unit or backwire satelites. Whats the point when you backwire then backhaul feature is waste and you can go with a simple 300$ router and a switch or may be a range extender they work better i believe. This is my 3rd orbi spent more than 3.5k on these routers and still not getting proper link its just reboots in middle of a meeting. I work in IT so has network knowlege this router is not better than a 500$ orbi other than you get wifi and may be a little better wifi if works. So think or research before wasting hard earned money.

Debated on buying the tri-mesh, but glad i got the quad mesh. The range and power is amazing. Well worth the extra price. Had it installed by geek squad, worth it to insure all my products were working strong. Well not worry about ever losing wifi again.

Great WiFi mesh system, security behind paywall

The feature set is not as powerful as other systems which combine WiFi access points with network router and security features. As a WiFi access point the product is excellent and stable. As a network router and security appliance the system is lacking. On network router, DHCP is missing customizable options such as custom internal DNS , missing VLAN and network segregation, it does have WLAN, IOT and Guest but missing ability to add more and assign different profiles to those network segments. On the security features, it is locked behind a pay wall. I already have a subscription for VPN for WireGuard/SurfShark and could assign different devices to be split tunneled with my old device. Can't do that with Orbi, I did not even want to try to subscribe to the paywall feature.

Hi mpitogo,
Thank you for your review and valuable feedback. If your home network includes a server, you can allow certain types of incoming traffic to reach the server. For example, you might want to make a local web server, FTP server, or game server visible and available to the Internet. The router can forward incoming traffic with specific protocols to computers on your local network. You can specify the servers for applications and you can also specify a default DMZ server to which the router forwards all other incoming protocols. For more information, please refer to the User Manual beginning on page 129: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBE973S/RBE971_RBE970_UM.pdf. For setting up a VLAN, please visit the User Manual beginning on page 97.
Regarding your feedback for additional functionalities, this has been escalated to the Product Management team for further consideration.

I’ve been an Orbi fan for years. I’ve deployed them for small businesses. I had 2gb fiber line installed and wanted to upgrade to the 970’s for a while. I finally pulled the trigger and I am not disappointed. The speed is unbelievable. I get the most out of my devices and use the WiFi 7 for high end gaming. I highly recommend it especially for those of you that have internet speed over 1gb. Must have!!

If you are considering the Netgear Orbi 7, I look at something else. The satallites continually lose contact with the main router, the firmwear seems to actually prevent devices from seamlessly jumping from one to the next within the environment (we often have to go into settings a reselect the router for it to connect appropriately when it moves from one environment to the next), by Netgear's own admission, they have a firmware sync issue with them and, finally, once you've owned them for 90 days, they will ask you for a credit card before talking to you for support.
If you decide to repurchase the RBE973S or any other NETGEAR product and have any issues, please reach out to us with your contact information along to [email protected], and we will be happy to help you.
