When I purchased the 3-piece Orbi router in May 2017, I balked at the price. Tremendously expensive for a home router. But, I haven't regretted this purchase one bit. It sets up easily, quickly with a smart phone app. In the seven months I've had it in service, it's been up and running nearly flawless and when the power goes out, restarts itself without any attention from me. I can't recommend the Orbi more highly. It's a bit high end for a home router, but I've got an Apple TV, Fire TV, Sony Bravia, iPad, iPhone, laptop, Kindle, an Echo and a Dyson air purifier all needing Wifi connections. Orbi assigns connections to them all flawlessly.

    Great Router, Tough Setup

Let me start by saying I'm not the most tech worthy guy. I embrace technology and all the things it's done to make our lives better, but I'm always nervous about getting something new or upgrading something fearing running into difficulties I cannot deal with or fix. I was driven to buy this as I have a good sized three story home that was previously serviced by a Linksys WRT 1900 AC Router with extended antennas and a Linksys extender. Worked just fine when I first got them, but either they aged or the additional wireless devices hooked up to them overwhelmed them. And then my Mother complained about the Wi-Fi connectivity of her smart phone while visiting so it had to go. Looked into this and Google routers but needed the additional ethernet outlets this had (3 compared to 1). So bought this and religiously followed the instructions. Everything was going fine. And then I checked the app and discovered only one of my two satellites was connected. To get free 24/7 support for 90 days you have to register new products. So I started that. Towards the end I got a message that there was a glitch so I should try to register later. Well, I needed to register to get the free support so I tried again and got a message saying my product was already registered. Argh! Live support is well hidden on the website and it says it costs (unless you're registered). I called the number anyway and they agreed to help me and fix my registration too all for free. Took one transfer a good deal of time and running up and down three flights of stairs, but finally got everything working. Main router is on the top floor, 1st satellite was on the main floor and the 2nd in the basement. Heavy duty users of bandwidth on all three levels, and they all work wonderfully now. Tough journey to get there, but all is fine now. Were it not for the hook up issues would have given it 5 stars. The one thing I may have done wrong, and there was no mention of this in the instructions, was to hook up the satellites sequentially (one at a time). It takes a while to become discoverable or be discovered. And as I waited for the 2nd one to become discovered, the first may no longer have been discoverable. My advice? after you set up the first satellite, begin working on the second. Don't wait for it to be discovered before moving on to the second like I did.

I switched from an expensive router bought 3 years ago. I have to keep my modem and router in the basement of my house so my WiFi was very inconsistent t depending on where a device is at within my house. I switched to the Netgear Orbi with the router plus 2 satellites and I couldn't be more pleased. Awesome throughout no matter where in at in my house. I even get great coverage outside my house which is great. I bought the "less powerful" AC2200 version since it was cheaper and I got to say it's more than enough for your standard streaming household.

I purchased the Netgear Orbi after struggling with the reliability and speed of my WiFi network at home. It has performed as well as advertised after a month of use. I’m now getting the full speed I’ve been paying my ISP for, and I’ve only needed to reboot my network 3 times (this used to be a nearly daily occurrence). Setup was incredibly easy and quick, and the online and app-based tools to manage the Orbi work well, with many advanced options, such as the ability to create your own VPN. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Orbi is great. It has allowed me to have WiFi in the areas that were too far away from the router before. Orbi has also increased my WiFi speeds by 200-300 per cent. I have about 30 devices connected to my WiFi at anytime and the only drawback is sometimes I have to wait a few seconds for Orbi to, “wake up”. Once it wakes up in a matter of seconds, I have no problem operating my device. Love this product. It shows how the WiFi carriers lease you equipment that is not designed to handle or deliver the higher speeds.

Orbi mesh is amazing, I now use my 230mbps internet all through my house the 6000 sqft coverage is just enough an now with my 30 or 40 WiFi hubs light switches plugs and mobile devices I have constant and fast WiFi. The system is a bit pricy but was needed and I got 100 off. If I knew now how well it worked I’d pay full price for it.

Great product. Bought this in replacement of linksys velop (which didn't work properly right out of the box and 6 hours of tech support). Pros: Easy and quick setup, and pretty fast. Secure, fairly configurable, easily expanded, typical mid range home firewall capabilities, nice industrial design, ethernet ports on all pieces. Cons: no easy way to separate bands if needed, no channels used above 48, typical mid range home firewall capabilities.

Our internet service comes in at one end of a fairly large house. Wireless coverage was not good with even highly rated routers. I tried an extender but it wasn’t much help and the signal was sporadic. We have had the Orbi system for about a month and so far it works well. The coverage is great even outside and the speed is very consistent. Setup was pretty simple. I did have some issues but they were quickly remedied with customer service.

The main unit is located at about the middle and the two satellites are located at the outer parts of the house. With this configuration I get outstanding signal and throughput in all 4900 + sq ft. I must note this is a story and 1/2 home so not penetrating more than one story at any given location. Not sure that would matter but for those who have this sq ft and multiple stories the specifics here may not directly apply.

I am truly amazed at the simplicity of setting this mesh wifi system up! Although I did have to go on YouTube to shut off my existing AT&T router's wifi capabilities, once that was done, the Orbi set up went flawlessly. The app really helps with clear directions on the set up. My previous wifi signal through the AT&T wifi/router was about 15-20 Mbps... now it flies at 43.89 Mbps throughout my entire house!

It covers my 5000 square foot house plus outside. The speed is phenomenal. I set up a WiFi for the adults and a guest for the kids, so I can turn off the WiFi for everything or shut down individual cell phones, PlayStation, while not interfering with the adults. Last update allows me to monitor how much usage each item is using. This is the best WiFi system I have ever used

Great way to boost WiFi Performance

Overall the Netgear Orbi delivers great wireless network performance in large homes and it has all the features expected in a router. Although expensive, it does deliver high performance if configured properly. I needed to improve the network speed between 2 computers at opposite ends of my house, and the single WiFi 802.11ac router could at best sustain a 5Mb/sec transfer speed between the two computers. I needed to double this speed at least to run a Steam Link on the upstairs TV running games on the PC downstairs. With the Netgear Orbi I now get a consistent 20Mb/sec transfer speed between the two computers. Both computers are now each hard-wired into one of the two satellites. This takes advantage of the dedicated back-channel the satellites use to communicate with the router. Other whole home systems mesh the satellites on the 5.4Ghz network, the Orbi's dedicated channel is a much better design. WiFi performance throughout the whole house is improved as well. Although it was an expensive upgrade it was worth it for me. I'm able to stream all games wirelessly now with great performance. The Orbi has all the usual features found on other netgear routers like VPN, etc. Other whole-home systems do not have these features.

I purchased this whole-home wifi system to replace a Linksys extender. The setup process was very easy. Orbi uses an app. to help setup the system. Since installed, the system has performed extremely well. I have tested the speed on numerous occasions and it has performed as well as the home router. I would highly recommend this system.

I installed this product by my father's house where he has consistently had issues getting good wifi coverage due to the design of his house. This product was easy to set up and worked flawlessly. I immediately did a firmware update to enable daisy chaining the satellites in serial fashion. Would definitely buy again!

Comcast wifi modem not so good - limited range and strength. Adding extender did not help and created additional wifi signals to which we had to manually attach when moving through the house. Orbi gave us significant improvement in speed and coverage with a single wifi signal throughout the house.

Our WiFi is now exactly the same, be it right next to the base unit, or all the way on the other end of the house. There are no dead spots at all. The system was incredibly easy to set up, only taking a few minutes. It is expensive, but the quality of the signal for someone that works from home is well worth it.

So far, so good! Install is simple, even for non-techies. The iOS app guides you through the process (there’s an Android app as well). Coverage on all floors of my home is great. No dead spots so far. The phone app lets you confirm that the router and satellites are online as well. Highly recommended.

I absolutely love this project.. so easy to setup, I did it myself in 5mins and I was in shock how much internet speed I had. I now can use what I’m paying for. I pay for the fastest internet with spectrum and with my other setup doesn’t even come close! It’s worth every penny!
