This whole home mesh system provides blanket coverage for my 1700 SF townhome. The router is in the basement with a satellite on the 1st and 2nd floor. Alexa speaker satellite is a nice bonus.

Works very well. Easy to install via the Orbi app. Getting good speed (300 mpbs) all over my house now with no dead spots. Alexa works well as well. Great product

In my home office I have thick walls I was not getting good connection with my current NETGEAR - Orbi Voice AC3000 Tri-Band Mesh. This was on sale and super easy to configure and setup. Connection is great now that I can use the Ethernet cable and connect directly to the satellite which has 2 Ethernet ports :-) I love the sound quality as well. I don't believe you can use it as an external speaker which would be awesome. BeetifulPhotoBooth.com

    Great unit for consistent coverage

High performance meets easy setup: I wasn't sure what kind of performance to expect with this product but was hoping to be able to replace some power line network adapters I'd been using to reach the extremities of our two story home. After installing this Orbi, I can safely retire those units. The Good: This particular Orbi package combines pseudo-mesh networking with Alexa integration which is a nice addition. Netgear has a different take on network extension/backhaul, but its coverage and performance outpaces many of the more expensive competitor devices and probably requires comparatively fewer devices (depending on your particular home coverage needs). For example, I like being able to use just two Orbi units as opposed to three Eeros I estimated I'd need for the same coverage. The Harman Kardon branded integrated speaker is plenty loud and sound quality is good (better than the Amazon Dot for example), but it's not as good as other dedicated music devices (e.g. Apple's HomePod, Sonos Play1, etc.). However those devices don't perform as network devices either. Coverage is excellent and speeds are fairly consistent both inside and outside of our two story home. I have the main unit upstairs in a closet at the back of the house and the satellite downstairs on the completely opposite side of the home. For a single level home that's not too spread out, or an apartment, it's probably a bit overkill for just covering the residential footprint but if distance is your desire, these units maintain fairly consistent speed even at range. Testing in our home (again, sample size of one), I was able to get nearly the same wireless speeds across the entire house with just these two units - and that includes outside living spaces as well. Netgear has chosen a minimalist approach to setup, which is probably great for inexperienced/first time users installing network gear, but the app (I used the iOS version) can be a bit temperamental - and using the app is the only method shown with the sparse included documentation. When it works, it definitely simplifies configuration and setup - requiring only the minimum amount of information from you. You can choose to retain the network name and security key provided by Netgear out of the box, but its obviously advisable to change the administrative password at least within the app. More granular setup options are still available for advanced users via a somewhat standard looking, albeit rebranded, Netgear webpage. Personally, I had to restart the app a few times and get the app to recheck for the router more than once, but that's not too significantly noteworthy. The app does all of the heavy lifting and when it's done, you have a fully functioning network - ready to go. This unit has all of the expected options - it acts as a router, a DHCP server, WiFi device, and Alexa speaker so you truly are getting an all-in-one solution that you can easily expand if you find you need additional coverage. Both the router and satellite have additional wired Ethernet ports, but I would have preferred to see more on both (only 3 on the router and 2 on the satellite). Again, though this is just my personal use case so your needs may vary. The Orbi also contains Disney's Circle (integrated) which you can setup if you like without having to buy additional hardware. The included USB port on both the router and the satellite can apparently be used to serve up a USB printer (shared via network) although I don't have a USB printer to test this. The Not-so-Good: When I first setup this unit, I did so in a standard configuration Netgear expects you to use. The Orbi was the all-in-one device and I was able to get up in running in about 20 minutes (from box opening to full-on network/Wifi/Alexa usage). However, if you have more complex needs, this unit drops off a bit. In my setup, I have a VPN/Router (also Netgear) that I have serving up DHCP. The app won't let you configure everything on the unit, but the web based interface has a lot more to offer. Where I was disappointed is that all of the security features get disabled when you put it in Access Point (AP) mode. You can no longer use the parental controls or site controls (even if your kids only use WiFi devices and this is the only WiFi system in your house). And while this system also includes VPN setup (it's hidden in the Advanced section via web interface), I'd consider it as an option if the router had more ports - but three just isn't enough for my situation. Also, the biggest complaint I have, which still is pretty minor, is just how big these things are. For comparison, my old R8500 with the antennas fully extended upright fit perfectly on a networking cabinet shelf. This unit is a couple inches taller and had to sit in a different location. While Netgear did select a fairly complementary and unoffending color/aesthetic combination, they aren't kidding when they nickname these as 'vases'. You're going to notice them. All in all, this is a really great unit for someone seeking a full featured all-in-one solution to start or replace a home network setup. If you're looking to augment an existing one, you may come away slightly frustrated. However, the performance and features really can't be overlooked here and this is a truly good unit that does what it advertises. If Best Buy allowed me to give 4 1/2 stars, I would, but it's the size and feature loss for more granular control that keeps me from granting a full 5 star review. And while I received this unit as part of Netgear's Friends and Family review program, it's definitely earned a place in my network to replace at least 4 other devices for the speed and coverage. I'm definitely recommending (and using) this unit for the foreseeable future.

I bought the Orbi because my regular router couldn’t transmit WiFi through a large concrete wall we have that separates the living room from the bedrooms. I had a Iinksys router before. The Orbi did not do that much better, same spotty connection in the bedrooms, a little better but not much. I do like the Alexa speaker, it’s a lot of fun playing with it.

Item worked for 1 1/2 years and wouldn't let you upgrade firmware. Got the magenta solid light and blinking white. Can't seem to get it working anymore. Can't get into router for configuration or factory reset. Nothing works, it's like it got bricked from an auto update. Sad was working great till yesterday and than nothing.
