I wanted to find a solution to the problem of slow WiFi in a house that has shared internet. I know connecting the modem+router+computer with a wired Ethernet connection would give the fastest results but the internet isn't fast enough to make it necessary to use a cable. WiFi was still going to be too slow for me so I decided to give a power-line adapter a try. I just had to make sure the adapters were connected directly to the wall outlets. This particular product has a light that comes on letting you know that the connection between the two adapters is stable and good to go (meaning you picked good complimentary outlets). Then all I had to do was connect the adapters to the router and the other adapter to the computer that I wanted to have internet on, the adapters used the houses electrical cable system as a cable connection to bring internet to the room I wanted and I was good to go (this product also has security on it that doesn't allow anyone to siphon the internet connection from it, only the adapters communicate with each other and more adapters can be added later) . I have been maxing-out the internet speeds using this product while everyone else in the house is stuck with WiFi speeds. Keep in mind, this is not a device designed to give you wireless connections or extend your wireless connection range, this is a device that you are supposed to use as an alternative to a wired cable connection. Instructions for the product and use of the product were very straight-forward for me. I have to say, based on my experience, this product is an awesome alternative to a cable Ethernet connection.

These two little beauties save me LOTS of work, and money to buy a LONG ethernet cable. One of the adapters was tied to my router in the basement, and then going through the house wiring to another adapter located on the first floor at the opposite end of the house. It would have taken 100 feet of ethernet cable and LOTS of work to achieve the same result. These babies will save your much grief and do the job well!

I struggled getting a strong wifi connection in the basement for my ps4 (even tried range extenders but they were unreliable). The PowerLine adapter works as expected. The connection appears to be very similar to plugging directly into the router(maybe a little slower). I am able to play games like COD and MLB the show online with no lag It is also the definition of plug and play and was very easy to setup. Overall worth the money and a good alternative when running ethernet cables is not an option.

I am so glad a BestBuy sales rep recommended this product. After using my wifi to stream Netflix over the past number of years, this gizmo gave me the full speed of my internet service. Combined with a Roku3, I have next to no wait time to log into my account and load shows to watch. It couldn't be easier to set up and is so much better than running ethernet cable all over the place. I definitely recommend this product.

Installation was easy and straight forward. The security setting was easy to use as well. The only drawback that I have seen is that they tend to lose the signal occasionally and you have to reset them in a very particular order to get them working.

Ridiculously easy to set up. Status lights on each unit are very helpful. As with all power line adapters, this does have limits. Depending on the circuits in your home, some circuits may not make a good connection. I use this to network a TiVo Roamio to a TiVo Mini which is a fairly demanding application. Works perfectly.

I highly recommend the Powerline 500 for anyone looking to extend the Internet around the home without extensive wiring. It provides the benefit of a faster connection than wireless, is easy to set up, and can be easily moved wherever needed. It works exactly as advertised.

After installing a new 4K TV in my basement I was frustrated with the unreliability of using WiFi to access my favorite online video content including Netflix and Vudu. After trying a new router and WiFi extender with mixed results, I decided to try the NETGEAR Powerline 500. It couldn't have been easier to install. I plugged one unit into the wall socket upstairs next to my cable internet modem and the second unit into the wall socket behind the 4K TV. After connecting the Ethernet wires it's just like running Ethernet directly into the TV. I now have fantastic speed all the time and no more video pauses or loss of resolution. This is a great product to consider when something faster and more reliable than WiFi is needed!

I had previously used a wifi adaptor for my security camera system, but connection was never very stable. This product was easy to install and has been rock solid - fast and reliable. Exactly what you want / need for a security camera system.

Plug and play. No setup, just plug it in to the wall, then to your router and the pc and that's it. Good speed. Recommended. I might note that you do have to push the button on both units so they will recognize each other. Takes 1 second.

When a powerline works, it works

So a powerline serves a very simple purpose--plug it in to your outlets to extend your network and not have to use WiFi. When it's working perfectly, you shouldn't have to think about it at all. It should just work. And this one just works. I've used powerlines from other brands and have had bad results. They'd break easily. They would quit working whenever they wanted and make you reset them. This Netgear, however, I have not touched since I set it up. So far, I have zero complaints.

The Powerline 500 XAVB5201-100PAS can be used in (1) one of (2) two ways. 1st way is as it's intended, to extend an Ethernet connection to somewhere in your house that's very far from your modem or WiFi router - by using you power outlet and actual wires as an Ethernet Cat 5e or 6 cable. You connect the first UNIT to a power outlet that's close to you modem or WiFi router and connect them together with a Ethernet cable. - - - then to have to find a power outlet in another room that will actually accept the other UNIT - - - meaning that depending on how you house is wired, not all room will work - - - the bottom "powerline" light will turn green if it is the strongest signal (80Mbps +) - - - Luckily I put one at the farthest point in my house from my WiFi router and it works GREAT! and the 2nd way, is the way I used them for: as extra extension to two other rooms where I need another Ethernet connection to my computers. - - - - - - I didn't start with this product, I started with: Powerline 500 WiFi Access Point (XWNB5201-100PAS), that provided me to be able to have WiFi and Ethernet extended to another room and purchased this product in review: (XAVB5201-100PAS) to extend what I already had established with the first product I bought (XWNB5201-100PAS). - - - - - - Just remember these two products are meant to work with each other, but NOT all Netgear Powerline products can be use with each other, you will have to do your research on that, but the TWO I review here work VER WELL TOGETHER as they were intended.

Setup was extremely easy, requiring no technical expertise. Speed is acceptable and would be better if the two outlets were closer together. A little overpriced.

I've been trying different methods to gey my NETFLIX to work properly. WIFI was not getting it done as it kept freezing. These adapters were quick and easy to install and now I have steady streaming.

This device is a great help if one of your streaming devices is all the way at the other end of the house from your router. Plug one end of an ethernet cable into your router and into one of the devices and plug that into an electrical outlet. Plug a second device into another wall outlet and connect that to the streaming device (or computer, I suppose) via an ethernet cable. You get a good solid connection to your router. I get between 18 and 22 mbs using this. The only problem is that some streaming devices do not have an ethernet port.

I bought this because my PS4 was getting horrible speeds through wifi and was told this would basically mimic a wired connection. I was worried at first because when I ran the speed test I didn't see much improvement in the Mbps, but since I started using the product I've experience NO lag whatsoever when gaming so for that - worth the money.

Initially I visited BB for checking new router to get better witi signal. When having talked with one of BB staff, he suggested this product. I didn't expect much, but took his suggestion. I am quite impressed with the performance of the adapter, and appreciate the BB associate's suggestion.
