Super Easy and Quick Network Extender!

Product: NETGEAR - PowerLINE Wi-Fi 1000 Access Point and Adapter - White Model: PLW1000 Overview: This product uses your home or apartment wiring to bring internet/LAN access to areas of the home where WiFi signals are low or a network cable is required. You can add up to 8 certified adapters to extend your network. Packaging: Nicely packaged. Easy, frustration free removal. Powerline adapters came in sturdy, custom-formed inner cardboard box snugly fit into the light cardboard exterior shell. The two adapters, two Ethernet cables and instructions were included. Initial Setup: Installation was a snap! Super easy – plug and play! 1. Unpack the adapters, plug the one without antennas and connect this to your router via the provided Ethernet cable. NOTE – do not plug into a power strip – it MUST be a wall outlet. 2. Plug the adapter with antennas into a wall outlet in the room you are looking utilize the wired or wireless extender network in. You can use the Pick-a-Plug LED to see if the outlet you are using has good connectivity or if a different outlet in the room provides a faster connection (by the color of the LED). 3. If using the Ethernet cable, plug it into the device you want and you’re done! If you I want to use the wireless network, connect to the SSID printed on the back of the adapter. You can alter the name of the wireless network once you’ve connected to it. Features: I’ve owned and reviewed many routers. I’ve also had several dead spots in my home. Using a PowerLINE adapter solved this effortlessly. The only drawback is that you have multiple wireless network in your home, you need to manually select the wireless network that is strongest in that particular area of your home or office. My iPhone and laptop do not automatically connect to the strongest signal – so that is an extra step. However, once you define the network to your device, it is simply a matter of selecting it. OVERALL: In summary, I was impressed with the ease of setup and performance of this product – but I’ve come to expect that from NETGEAR. During my testing, I used it to connect my TIVO in the master bedroom to my network via Ethernet cable vs the MoCA setup I used previously. So far – after streaming Netflix movies – it works great! I am required to mention that I received the PLW1000 from NETGEAR as part of a review and test program. The pricing seems a little steep, but if you need wired connectivity to a device and you don’t already have Ethernet, this is the only way to go – and provides easy and quick, high-speed connectivity!

This technology was new to me - tying into the house electrical system through an outlet vs. hoping airwaves would 'boost' our wifi signal from the router to bedrooms at the other end of the house. Airwave boosters did not work at all, likely due to the configuration of the house and the distance between the router and wannabe users. The Powerline Wi-Fi Access Point and Adapter instantly gave us 100% signal throughout our home. Easy to install (5 minutes), we have had up to 6 different people accessing Wi-Fi at the same time throughout the house with the signal coming through like you are sitting right next to the router. Highly satisfied customers here.

Must have technology for wifi enthusiasts

The Netgear powerline device is just what I need for my home and home office. This product negates the need to buy multiple routers to extend signal to hard-to-reach areas. I also found that I no longer have to worry about signal getting though my thick, brick walls as the signal is transmitted through the power lines to the 2nd wifi transmitter which is pretty cool! I was getting >70 mbps depending on what I was doing online through this device! Below are some highlights and considerations. Pros: -Practical for use in home or home office w/ hard to reach wifi spots - Great value - Easy to set up - Impressive speed / performance Cons: - Outlet placement - Speed (though its still pretty impressive) Overall, I am very impressed at how seamlessly this technology works. I never knew I could extend my current network through my existing wired infrastructure. This is definitely the most cost effective solution for those looking to extend wifi through thick walls or up another floor without running additional wires through the walls! Please note that I received this device free of charge in connection with my participation in the Netgear First Look program. This is my unbiased review.

    1) the password to the WiFi connector is on the parts not the box 2) I am not tech savvy at all. This is the easiest set up ever. It goes with any router. You plug one piece into the router, the other peace into the wall outlet, hit the sync buttons and bam it’s set up. I have no WiFi in my room and i places the antenna part half way between my room and the router and now i have 2 bars. Which is good considering i had absolutely no WiFi connection.

    5 minute setup. Great reliability

Due to archaic architecture and our lack of forward thinking, we placed our router in the corner of the house where all the computers were set up back in the 90s. Once our house started to accumulate wireless tech of the 21st century, we realized that the opposite corner of our house could not receive a strong connection. The signal would have to travel through about 6 walls and this severely compromised the signal. We needed a solution. The PLW1000 comes with very straight forward instructions: Plug the wall adapter into the router, then move the wireless adapter somewhere else in the house. One issue I had with the setup was the SSID information labeled on the WiFi adapter that was against the wall and I had to unplug the adapter to find that information again. Other than that, the device immediately connected to the network and extended the WiFi to the far reaches of the home where we would normally get about 30% signal strength. In terms of the product overall, the unit runs hot but I guess that is the compromise if we want a completely silent unit. Other alternatives, such as range extenders, could solve WiFi range issues in other geometric shaped homes. Our home is a U shape, so the amount of walls that disrupt the WiFi is far too troublesome to install multiple extenders. I did receive this product from NETGEAR's First Look Review Program for testing and to provide my unbiased review; but with that said, if they could somehow develop a smaller unit, then I could see this technology being used throughout the states. As far as my research goes, it seems Powerline adapters are very popular in Europe or other regions that have thick walls to keep the cold out and heat in. Sleek design, fascinating technology, simple 5 minute setup. Problem solved!

I bought an Arris modem/WiFi router combo unit, installed it, and then went on vacation for a month. Unfortunately, I wasn't home long enough to discover that it wasn't broadcasting a strong enough signal to my entire basement, and by the time I was home and discovered the issue, it was too late to return it. Enter the Netgear PowerLINE WiFi extender. Holymoly what a difference! I get a STRONG, FAST signal in all reaches of the basement now, with nary a dropped connection. I can't recommend this highly enough.

This WiFi extender was the absolute easiest to setup compared to other WiFi extenders. All I had to do was plug it in and go really. My internet speeds are actually faster in my garage than in my home now. It met and exceeded all my expectations, thats for sure. I think the price is set well for this product and I would highly recommend it to my friends and family. If you want WiFi in an area that your home router can't reach then I recommend this product to you. I've been using this WiFi Extender for about a month now and I haven't had any issues yet. NetGear sent this product to me for free so that I can test it out and give my honest review on it.

Needed this to create a wifi access point in our detached garage, for our Arlo security cameras. Set up was easy, it took minutes to connect all the devices, and the signal is strong. This is a game changer!

Very easy to setup. I took the time to review the instructions to make sure I understood the buttons but it is really plug and play. My internet speed was close to my top ISP speed in one outlet but when I moved it to an outlet 5 feet away it dropped to half. You just have to find the right outlet. I would recommend this solution to anyone who needs fast speeds away from your wifi connection. NetGear sent this product to me for free so that I can test it out and give my honest review on it.

Works a treat, but installation not simple

This product met my needs exactly: existing router couldn't reach furthest away bedroom, which is now fully connected. Installation was not as simple as the instructions would suggest. A couple of tips: 1. If you want to chaage the SSID.wifi password, you will need an ethernet enabled laptop (i.e. not my MacBook Air...) 2. The instructions do not tell you the account names and passwords that you need when you log into www.mywifiext.net. There are Admin and Password - hardly a surprise I know but still... 3. The wifi password supplied with the unit is printed in tiny letters on the second plug (the one with the aerial). That being said, in my case this did NOT work - hence the need for steps 1. & 2. 4. Despite the fact that the Pick a Plug light shows red (as opposed to amber or green), the wifi signal is plenty strong enough.

I bought this a few days ago, and am amazed how easy it was to set u.p. A few minutes after opening the package, I had a strong wifi signal in that downstairs room that used to have a shaky signal for years. No setup required - just connect one box to my router, then both boxes to wall outlets and bingo - I saw 2 new wifis, one with 2.4 and the other with 5 ghz. Now I am using the 2.4 with my TV, and the 5 with the roku stick. I see a crisp image with both. Before, it used to be fuzzy and unreliable. Am very happy! My only concern is how hot the access point gets. After reading other reviews, I wonder if that might cause a problem. I will report here again in a few weeks.
