I ended up buying this powerline adapter instead of a WiFi extender and it doesn't disappoint. My house has no internal Ethernet cables or plugs. I've got to say this was easy to set up on a newly installed WiFi network and it has been getting speeds up to 250GB. If there's a downside it's that only one device and be hooked up to it with an Ethernet cable (does not work with WiFi). Cool thing is you can buy more than one put them in other parts of the house. If you don't have built in internet and bad WiFi signals to parts of your house you should give this a try.

Had to purchase this for work-at-home. I was a bit hesitant to buy it as I understand ethernet powerlines are not really that reliable. I needed to make a connection that was wired-only for the work computer. Router is downstairs and my "Office" is on the second floor. There are no ethernet outlets or connections on the second floor and I was not running a cable all the way down. For work, I have to maintain a stable connection as I have to take phone calls using that connection and cannot afford to lose it. So far I am close to a month of using it and I haven't had the first issue; also, I tested the connection and I am getting high speed. Have in mind that the condition and quality of your electric wiring depends on the stability of this poweline adapter. Also this is meant to be connected directly to the power outlet, I see some pictures of this being connected to a power strip. Your are defeating the purpose. Connect directly to the power outlet.

Upon relocating for my new job I moved to a place where my computer was at the opposite end of the house from the router. This was an issue until i obtained the Netgear Powerline 1200. This device does a great job of improving the internet connection. Set up of this device was very simple with nothing to install, simple plug and play. My previous wifi connection was only around 4 mbps then after using this device the connection improved to the advertised 50 mbps speed i am paying for, would highly recommend. This device is the same as running an ethernet connection though the electrical line of your house, every outlet could be a direct connection to your router.

My old belkin powerline 350 were losing signal daily so it was time for an upgrade. I read reviews on these and pulled the trigger. Great purchase. Amazing speeds and strong signal compared to my old ones. Main source downstairs, while my setup is upstairs. The difference was night and day, i did a speed test on my laptop and it was pulling almost equivalent speeds as if i was sitting next to the modem. Set up was plug and play, no software or drivers.

Wow... These things really work well. Much better than I expected. Our son plays video games. (Too many video games.) But wifi just wasn't cutting it since he's on the opposite end of the house. He was constantly complaining about dropped signal, slow ping, lag, etc. I didn't want to invest (yet) in a wifi mesh or an wifi extender as wifi's not that great for gaming anyway. At the same time though, I didn't enjoy the idea of running cat6 to his room either. This so far appears to be a pretty good compromise. I'm planning on buying another unit so that I can get a good connection in our garage.

Not getting the advertised speeds, but does one ever get that stuff with networking equipment? It is more reliable than my Wifi connection, but about the same speeds. Overall happy with the purchase. Am able to play FPS game on my PC without fear of losing connection.

I needed hard wire service for a PC that I use for work, and I didn't want to rely on wifi. This was in a part of the house that was impossible to wire due to the vaulted ceiling. I had heard about this, and its success in the European market, so thought I would give it a try. Easy to set up, and works great. So relieved this worked they way it does, or I would have had to have a CAT 5 running to that area and it would have been an eye sore.

Internet access in a metal storage building

I found this product via an online search on how to extend my home wifi into my new metal storage building. Granted, it's not that far from my router to the new building (~50' direct route) but I didn't want to run a CAT5 cable between the two so I was happy to find the Powerline 1200 existed and even happier when I plugged it into my laptop and it worked! I then took the Apple Airport Express that I was using in my living room as a wifi extender and plugged it into the Powerline in the metal building and voila! Now I can use my phone and tablet in there, too. Caveat: The metal building and my house share an electrical box so I have no idea if this would've worked if they were separate as some reviews have mentioned. This system is made up of two (2) Ethernet adapters and two (2) 6.5' Ethernet/CAT5 cables and is very easy to install. I plugged one adapter into the wall outlet next to my router, plugged the cable into the adapter and router. In the metal building I plugged the second adapter into the wall outlet, plugged the cable into the adapter and my laptop and my home network was found immediately. I was up and running in just a few minutes. Since I don't need internet all the time in the metal building I moved the second adapter back into the house. I have not-so-great rural internet (just fast enough to allow Apple TV and Amazon Prime streaming) so I tried the adapter on the tv and saw the difference via less frequent loss of picture quality (precursor to freezing and buffering) and buffering timeouts. Enough of a difference that I purchased a second set of two (2) adapters for the tv and laptop.

These almost always work well and are easy to setup. Every other day while watching TV, the TV loses it's wired connection (this adapater). It only stops for 5 seconds, but it's annoying. On the whole, though it was better than running cable.

Powerline network adapters have been around for some time. The early models had issues but things have changed. The netgear powerline adapters have been flawless. They were really easy to setup. My internet router is in the basement and I needed a way to supply my wifi access point upstairs. I was able to plug in the router in the basement to this device connected to a power outlet and create a gig link to the wifi router upstairs. I do have network ports wired in my house but often I find they are in the opposite corner of the room I need. Instead of running long cables I have started buying these devices to connect game consoles and other equipment. The installations are "wife approved"because I can hide the cables easier. The devices have built in security so when you add more devices you can make sure that all communication is encrypted between the units. You want to make sure you read the user guide on how to do this. If you live in an apartment, I'm pretty sure a neighbor could plug one of these in and extend your network. That wont be a problem if set up correct. Overall these were a great buy and they work good.

I bought these to help with my internet issues in my house. I had ethernet cables ran along the floor. Even though it worked great it looked bad. I will before to long run cables on the exterior of my house but for now this will work. they worked perfect right out of the box. I have 3 locations in my house. No lagging

This extender works great in my old house with a recently re-done wiring system, even though the connection has to pass thru the fuse-box. In a couple of weeks I've had a couple of interruptions sufficient to freeze the screen on a new computer, but I don't know if that had anything to do with this extender. And there's no doubt my speed has increased and lag has decreased, as opposed to wi-fi. I did have to return this AC1200 unit and exchange it for the AC2000 mostly because I'm short on plug space and the device itself block the other prong on the outlet; I'm not sure if that is intentional design. So if you can make do with nothing else plugged into the outlet, get this one; if you're short on socket space like I am, get the 2000.

Recently purchased a new house which had no Ethernet cable run throughout. Wasn't thrilled about the idea of using wireless for everything either. Discovered this great offering from Netgear. Installation was a breeze. I was up and running within minutes with an Ethernet jack wherever I needed it. Great speeds too!

Can't believe how easy this was to set up. It comes with two ethernet cables which were very useful. I get a nice solid connection in my room where the wi-fi cuts in and out. This product was a life saver for my work from home setup.

I purchased the Net Gear Powerline 1200 to extend my internet access into a room of my home that I did not have hard wired with CAT 5 Internet cable, and it works perfectly. It is very easy to install, and sends the signals through the electrical wiring in your home which the current flow is alternation current. It has allowed me to do anything I am capable of doing with hardwired internet connectivity, or with a superb wireless connection. Program download speeds are just as fast, and I have not had any problems whatsoever with the Net Gear Powerline 1200 system. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who needs an internet extension in their home if wireless connectivity over a wireless network is unavailable, or connectivity is poor.

The device works well for what it is, but the underlying technology (powerline) has its limitations. In my setup, I tried to connect my router in my home office to an unmanaged switch in the living room so I could 'directly wire' my smart TV and gaming consoles to the internet. In this configuration, the connection is unstable and performs worse than the WiFi. I believe this is mainly because the two rooms are on separate circuits, and because of the physical routing of the electrical outlets throughout the house. Doing some temporary testing with long ethernet cables, I found having the two adapters on the same circuit (usually same room) yields the best results. Having the adapters on separate circuits can work with acceptable speeds / stability, but it is dependent on the total distance the signal is travelling (outlet to circuit breaker to outlet) and the number / type of equipment connected to the grid. I was able to boost performance slightly by using a surge protector with built-in EMI filtering for some noisy equipment, but it still performed worse than the WiFi. Overall, this is an easy and great solution for specific situations, but in any other scenario, it is not trivial to get the system performing at an acceptable level. In some cases, like mine, it may not be possible at all without rewiring your AC lines, at which point, you may as well just run ethernet cables.

Needed to connect my work pc to my home internet in order to work from home. My U-verse gateway could not be moved to my office to directly plug my work pc into it, so bought the ethernet adapters and it works great. Sporadically my computer loses connection through the day, not really sure if its the adapter or its U-verse or even my vpn connection But it reconnects fairly quickly and doesn't spend alot of time trying to connect. There are indicator lights I can see on the ethernet adapters to tell if I've lost connection. Very helpful. The adapters have been working just fine, allows me to work at home and saving me a daily commute to office, small price to pay for convenience. I highly recommend this product.

I use these to get network connections in the outbuildings that house my machine and woodworking shops, and to a room that would be quite difficult to run standard network cable to. The first pair worked very nicely, and I needed to get network access in a few more places. Plug it in, run some speed tests, find the outlet(s) that give best results as the main panel and sub panel configurations do effect speed, and all is well. These aren't as fast as wired CAT6 by any means, I see 12 to 26 MB throughput, but that's in a building 140 foot from the main power panels and around 170 foot from my router. At around $45 a device it's a heck of a lot cheaper than burying 200+ foot of CAT6 in trenches to my shop buildings. Just did a linux release upgrade on a machine over one of these links with no timeouts or problems, the update servers are still slower than the link within my network.

So, within my living quarters in my apartment I was only given one location (living room) to hook up my cable modem and router. This left my desktop PC in my bedroom without a connection. Although I did go down the router of a wireless USB adapter and that worked wonders but I noticed that while gaming I would experience lag spikes every now and then. After making this purchase I noticed an even more solid connection and not to mention, no lagging! You're mileage will vary depending on how your house/apt was wired. My apartment is relatively small so this made it seem as if I was right next directly connected to the router. Took this over to a friends house and he was getting a better connection but not near of what I had. Still would highly recommend if you're not able to run your own cabling within your walls. Lot cleaner than running something along the floors.
