Not pleased we have to send back to manufacture because it keeps beeping and turning off even when vehicle isn’t on. Very disappointed and to get installed we have to pay for another installation. Please do your research and make sure the installer explained everything to you and not just say it’s ready!

In the box you get the camera, mounting brackets (suction & stick on), a power cable, a USB cable, a warning sticker and a cable installation tool. It's all quiet nicely packaged. The camera accepts microSD cards, class 10 upto 128gb so plenty of storage for when you're on the road. Installation of is easy. You have the option of a stick on or suction mount. Image quality on this camera is amazing. At 1440p 30fps everything is Crystal clear, but you can also drop that down to 1080p but get 60fps This thing also has automatic crash detection and will notify the nearest place for help! It's amazing. It's also modular so you can connect a variety of option like the rear cameras and cabin counters. They are pretty affordable and can give you bumper to bumper coverage. This also has Alexa built in but it's don't use it, it's more gimmick. You have to download it on your phone, then pair the camera to your phone... Kinda point as it doesn't work without the phone. Overall this is a quality camera with excellent visuals, good audio, modular in design and easy to use and install. Highly recommend

The Nextbase 422GW Dash Cam was really surprising to my wife and I. She just recently got a new truck and we needed a camera for it. When this was offered we figured we'd give it a whirl! As with many consumer dash cams that have recently hit the market, this Nextbase model is meant to be paired with a cell phone for full functionality, allowing you to run updates from your phone and allowing you to access your video files from the phone. Storage on the unit is done on a MicroSD card which can be up to 128GB (not included!). The display on it is almost a novelty, but it's nice to be able to get at least a preview of what the camera is seeing without having to fire up your phone's app to see what is. The screen is also a touch screen - I can see this getting to be maddening as I absolutely hate seeing fingerprints on a screen! Video files created by this camera are very sharp and crisp. Video files can be safeguarded from being overwritten either by way of a manual button-push on the unit or if there's a sudden jolt the camera will sense it and write-protect the current video file. Only one complaint about the unit - the mounting system. The mount is affixed to your windshield (or under your mirror) by way of 3M double-sided tape. We opted to mount it under the mirror as we will soon be getting the windshield tinted with a clear tint to help reduce the heat of the scorching Florida summers - had we affixed the mount to the windshield we would have had to remove it upon having the tint installed. We prefer suction-cup mounting over the double-sided tape as it makes the unit more portable.

Installation was similar to any other dashcam I've seen. One part of the installation that is different is that the power cable plugs into the mount, that delivers power to the cable through the magnetic mounting connector on the camera. I really like the fact that I don't have to worry about the cable wear and tear over time. The footage is easy to access on my phone by connecting over wifi or Bluetooth. With the size of the video files being a little larger, you might want to consider getting a larger SD card. The larger file size is due to the resolution of the video, so it is worth it because the videos look good. I haven't used the accessories yet, but the expansion options look good.

    A Great Dash Cam

This is a great dash camera. It's easy to hookup and the MyNextbase app makes it really easy to view and update the camera. I've been using it all week, and I've already had a few occasions that most likely would of ended up in and accident had I not been paying full attention, i.e. people merging onto the on ramp to the freeway from the far left lane without using a blinker. It's seems like almost everyday I almost get side swiped in the same spot. I'm able to go back and show my wife the crazy drivers I have to deal with everyday. In the worst case scenario, if the other person actually makes contact, I'll have video proof they were at fault. Things I like: Crystal clear HD video capture, even at night, Motion capture while parked, Ability to upgrade/add and interior camera. It's small enough to hide behind my review mirror, so I don't even notice it there. Ability to have it automatically call for help in case of a real emergency. Alexa. Things I don't like: Should have come with a hardwire kit for the suggested MSRP. Downloading videos directly from the app is really slow. No ability to zoom in on the video within the app. Would be handy to be able to zoom in on a license plate. Super sensitive mic picks up a ton of vibration through the arm holding it to the windshield, and also if you have your radio volume up, you'll get mostly static if you're recording audio in your video.

As a new parent, my curiosity in dashcams quickly grew to obsession. Having tried a few dashcams before, my expectations were tempered to say the least. That being said, the Nextbase still managed to impress. The video quality is superb in daylight, with crisp clarity and no noticeable fisheye effecting. At night, the camera wasn't nearly as good at picking up sharp details, but the image was still more than adequate for usability. The biggest selling point in my opinion, is the magnetic dock which allows you to pick modules to suit your needs. Nextbase offers a few different modules, including a cabin-view cam, a rear-view, and another module that's still rearview but doesn't require extra wiring. As with most electronics nowadays, the 422 offers compatibility with voice-services, in this case, Alexa, allowing you to run simple commands. Overall unit size is a bit large to fully disappear behind my mirror, but the tradeoff is that the onboard screen is usable. In summary, excellent daytime video quality, usable night video, and a very clever (Apple magsafe-esque) connection that offers modularity for individual use case scenarios.

    Good Hardware, So/So Software

The Nextbase 422 camera comes with a whole host of cool features that I didn't think of when I started looking for a dash cam. The unit itself is really solidly put together. Here is a quick run-down of all the features, bells, and whistles: * 1080p recording @ 60 fps / 1440 @ 30 fps * WiFi / Bluetooth connectivity * 2.5" HD touch screen * Alexa integration built in * Intelligent Parking Mode * Emergency Response (Subscription required) The initial setup was a bit confusing because there's a Nextbase App for iOS / Android as well as a desktop client. I had some issues on my iPhone setting it up, which I attributed to iOS 13 beta, but then when I connected it to my iMac, the software showed a completely different item / serial number. I finally ended up deleting the App and setting it up using my wife's iPhone on iOS 12. The setup itself comes with a sticker-based and suction-based mount for the camera. I live in Texas where it can be over 115 degrees in the summer, so I opted for the suction cup holder instead of the glue. I've had too many glue-based products fall off due to high heat. Also, you will need to pick up a micro-SD card to even get this thing up and running per the setup instruction. The device itself works great, but the battery life off power is a joke. This isn't a device that's meant to run off battery power for long, if at all. I had to fight to get the cable routed and hidden in my Honda Crosstour since the car already has a proximity sensor as part of the rear-view mirror assembly where Nextbase suggested I install the camera. Honestly, if you're serious about keeping this in your car long term, do yourself a favor and pick up the kit that lets you connect directly to the car's fuse box. The camera itself comes with a cigarette lighter adapter - and I found myself having to chose between charging my phone or using my dash cam. Since space is a premium in cars, it would've been great if they'd added a USB port to charge your phone as well.

The dashcam functionality is great and quality is excellent. Battery life is minimal, though, so do take note that you'll want to do the installation of the power adapter in to your car. Fortunately the 12ft cable gives you plenty of length to do a nearly-visible install. Was a cinch on my 2018 Corolla. Parking sensing is good, but only if the power socket you've got in your car is one that's always-on, otherwise it quickly runs out of battery and won't work as a "bump" monitor. Comes with a stick-up mount and more permanent one; I opted for the permanent one and it's not wavering a bit. Great mounting option. Does *not* come with a memory card to store footage, so be sure to purchase one! Pairing to your phone to get full accelerometer, speed, etc embedded in to the video has been shoddy at best for me. Despite the SOS functionality saying it's paired to my phone, most of my videos lack the information. Time lapse is cool, but it's something I can see wanting to turn on/off at will and because it's buried in settings that's not really a thing you can do. The Alexa integration is novel at best; the commands the manual showed me "Alexa, stop recording" or "Alexa, ask NextBase to transfer video to my phone" just simply don't work. Other "normal" Alexa commands (start a timer, do home automation, etc) all work as you'd expect if you had a Dot connected in your car so that's kinda neat. But to control the camera it's a non-starter. My Corolla has quite a bit of glare on the inside of the windshield so I'd really like to see a polarized/filtered lens on these to help out with that.

The product works nicely. As a dash cam, the operation is simple and the screen is descent. It comes with a memory card, mounting hardware and charging cables. Unfortunately, I am running the newest beta version of iOS 13 and the application crashes. I was not able to connect to the camera with my phone to write about the software interface. I had been waiting to review this in hopes that the iOS software would be updated. In all fairness to the manufacturer, the new iOS isn’t due to be released until the fall timeframe. I’m sure an update will be forthcoming by then. I had a spare 128 GB memory card in my drawer so I updated the card. There are no negatives to report on this camera and I look forward to the updated application when it becomes available.

I have enjoyed the Nextbase 422GW dashcam since I set it up in my car. It just works. Initially had an issue with it not wanting to reconnect to my phone through Bluetooth, but an app update within 24 hours remedied that complaint. Can record in 1 minute or 3 minute intervals. Up to 1440p obviously, but I keep it in 1080p 60fps for the smooth video. SD card support allows you to save recordings and possibly make road trip videos. Additionally, there's a button to protect your recordings in case of an accident or emergency. I haven't had to use it to corroborate an accident. Also can run on it's own juice for at least overnight when the car isn't on for extra peace of mind. Overall it's a great investment and to set up.

I received my Nextbase cam early last week and had to wait to install until I had a day off; I've been using this for three days now and am very impressed with the performance of the cam and its features. OVERALL IMPRESSION I had no idea something so small could pack so much quality features inside. The clarity of the video is stunning ranging from 1440p to 1080p (30fps or 60fps). To save space on the microsd card (which is not provided), I went with the 1080p 30 fps setting. I purchased a 64gb card but likely will go to a 128gb one to provide more space. The unit supposedly will start deleting files once the card is filled starting with the oldest first. There is a button that will allow you to protect files. I have not had a need to try this yet. INSTALLATION TIDBITS Instructions say to charge 2 hours prior to installing in a car; I found this a great time to bluetooth connect to my phone and to adjust settings there and I found this to overall be a smooth feature; while the unit was connected via usb cable to my laptop, I was able to update the firmware as well with relative ease. When it came to the installation into my car, I chose the nice magnetic mount with 3m tape (supplied) and then ran the power cable to the 12 volt plug in the car. I used the supplied black plastic trim tool to neatly stow the cable around my headliner and windshield and down my a pillar piece and no cord shows. Neatly stowed the remaining cable with zip ties under the dash for custom look. Actual installation in the car took about 15 minutes after I chose the routing plan for the cable. I was careful to tuck the wire neatly so I was over protective of my new car! OPERATION You can set the record period for the cam to automatic on/off which I did and the duration to 3 minutes since I have a somewhat lengthy commute; I was able to successful connect my phone to the cam to ensure that it was recording and should I have desired, I could have downloaded the videos to my phone. I successfully manually deleted files I knew I did not need using my phone as well. Due to my work schedule, I have not had the opportunity to drive and record at night, however. I found the daylight settings as default to be excellent and have not needed to change. SURPRISE EXTRAS This is Alexa connected and also has a wonderful SOS feature available if you are in an accident and it can call for help should you need it. I have read this is free for a year and costs extra after that. I have not tried the service. The cam also has a "park" feature that senses if your car has been bumped and will initiate recording so you can catch the culprit. You can also buy at extra cost a rear camera which would help when you pull into a space and the back of your car is exposed to catch someone who bumped into the back of your car or to record traffic behind you (like the road rage incident I had several months ago where someone was nearly wrecking me and followed me home... though I instead went to the police). I wish I had the cam then so I could have got the license plate and make of the car before he drove off as I turned into the police lot. OVERALL With your ability to add your speed and date and time stamp onto the video, this will be a great tool to support any incidents - hopefully you drive within the speed limit! For the price of the unit, you cannot go wrong with this - apparently this is a revised version that is smaller than the prior one so it takes up less space. I installed mine in front of the rear view mirror and it is virtually undetectable from inside or outside. I don't need to see the small touchscreen as I can adjust virtually everything from my phone and can play the videos from my phone when I am near the cam. This would make a great addition if you live in an area filled with nuts on wheels so you can protect yourself from their fabricated excuses should there be an accident!

the good: - design - compact, light weight, feels like quality construction and materials. - picture quality - ability to set to 1440p at 30fps. Really nice picture quality in my opinion. Certainly good enough to use as evidence in an incident. - ease of use (after initial setup) - After the initial setup, which had its own issues, the camera pretty much does its thing automatically. It turns itself on and starts recording as soon as the vehicle starts. - mobile app - While the app itself could use a little polishing, its functionality is passable. - mount - The mount I actually really like. You actually have 2 options here. You can go for something relatively permanent, sort of like the mount that might hold up your rear view mirror. Also you can opt for the “click & go” pro mount. Fancy name for a suction cup, but it works surprisingly well and feels like it could handle significantly more weight. I personally went with this option, and it’s been rock solid, over 2 weeks now in the Arizona heat. - SOS feature - A really cool feature is the SOS functionality, which essentially sends the GPS location of your vehicle in the event of an accident. - G-sensor - You can “protect” your video files in 2 ways, either manually using the “protect” button, or, in the event of an accident, it enables on the current video automatically. This prevents the video from being overwritten or deleted. - can support a (separately purchased) additional camera the bad: - clumsy setup - I personally had some issues using my available computers (both Mac and PC) to set up the camera. Either the camera wasn’t recognized or setup would stall part way through. However, I had no issues using my iPhone to do so. miscellaneous: - small on-board image - For such a small camera, not really any way around this. - Alexa integration - Some may find it useful, others not so much. overall: My impression of this camera overall is probably closer to a 4.5 because of some fairly simple issues. I do feel like once it’s set up and working, it does what it needs to well and without issue. Because of this I’m rounding up to 5 stars. In an increasingly crowded category, the 422GW offers quite a bit for the price.

Bought the 422 over 522 since I wanted to save the extra couple of bucks. Very impressed by the video quality and ease of use. I use the Alexa feature quite a bit to listen to songs while am driving. Easy to just "Ask Alex to play XYZ". I also bought the rear-view camera to connect to 442GW which was a nice addition.

Installed into my car and synced to my iPhone XR. Works great and has great range and clarity on a test drive to check out the quality. Of course I hope to never have to rely on this, but it does give me peace of mind. Another plus: it’s tiny so it really doesn’t take up much space on the dash.
