4K Dash Cam!!!

Over the years I have used multiple dash cams and by far this one is probably the best that I have encountered so far. From its 4K crystal clear image to its abundance of features and ease of use, the NextBase 622GW will not disappoint. Let’s go over the features and Pros and Cons on the NextBase 622GW 4K Dash Cam.
Unboxing and Setup:
In the box you will find pretty much everything you will need to setup and install the Dashcam. For this review an SD card was provided, but it is not included with the dashcam, that is the only item you will need to get separately. You will find in the box a mounting bracket that attaches to the dashcam magnetically, so it can be removed easily if needed, and an extra window mounting sticker. You are also provided power cable, USB cable, power cable fitting tool and a quick start guide. This dashcam can be used without the NextBase app, but I highly recommend that you download the app and connect the dashcam to your phone because it does allow you to easily change the options, settings and to access your videos directly to your phone and even has videos on how to install the dashcam. When I first connected my phone to the dashcam, I was prompted to a firmware update which took about 5 minutes and after that my dashcam was ready to go.
Features:
The dashcam features a 3 inch and very responsive touchscreen, 140 Degree FOV, power button, SD card slot, Bluetooth 5.0 and the only dashcam I have used that uses 5Ghz WIFI connection, which makes updating and downloading videos a snap. The dashcam offers multiple resolution options ranging from 4K 30FPS to 1080P 30FPS and super slow motion, along with the ability to record audio, time, Speed, and GPS stamps. The dash cam also features image stabilization technology which actually works great and have not seen in many other dashcams. The dashcam also has G-Shock sensor, intelligent parking mode and an auto on and off features, all of which can be adjusted to your liking. The dashcam also features ESOS option that is once setup will allow Nextbase to dispatch emergency services if the driver becomes unresponsive, the first year is free for that service, but after that there is a charge of $3.99 a month. The dashcam will send an alert to your phone which the user must cancel within 120 sec, and if the user does not cancel the alert, emergency services will be dispatched. And if you were curios, yes, this dashcam is also compatible with Alexa. The only problem I had with this dashcam is that it is not yet compatible with the google eco system and that is what I use.
PROS:
AMAZING VIDEO QUALITY – DAY AND NIGHT (MULTIPLE VIDEO RESULTION OPTIONS)
WIFI AND BLUETOOTH
DITIGTAL IMAGE STABILIZATION
SOS FEATURE (1 YEAR FREE AND $3.99 A MONTH AFTER THAT)
AUDIO, TIME, SPEED AND GPS LOCATION STAMP
ALEXA BUILT-IN (FOR THOSE WHO USE ALEXA)
LIVE VIEW OPTION ON PHONE WHEN CONNECTED
OPTION TO ADD REAR VIEW CAMERA
ABILITY TO DOWNLOAD VIDEOS TO YOUR PHONE WIRELESSLY
CONS:
NOT COMPITABLE WITH GOOGLE ECO SYSTEM YET – IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE SOMETHING COMPITABLE WITH ALEXA THEN YOU NEED TO THINK OF THE GOOGLE USERS AS WELL
Overall, I am very impressed with the number of features, options and the video quality of the Nextbase 622GW dashcam. In my opinion a dashcam is a must have to keep you safe and to give you that piece of mind and it does not get any better than the Nextbase. If you are in the market for a dashcam, I would highly recommend you check out this dashcam before looking any further.

Since this is my first dash cam I wasn’t sure what to expect. Straight out of the box I charged it and plugged it into my car. Once you turn on the vehicle the camera comes on and starts recording. It records every 60 seconds and starts over. I’m not sure what happens when the SD card is for but I’ll find out later. I was able to change some of the settings I do like the inclement weather setting I haven’t figure out how to have a record only when there is movement of the car but I actually like recording at all times and just erasing video that I don’t need over a period. The 4K is OKThe at night video is pretty clear and you can get a wide angle of the front end of the car and it’s surrounding. The sound is decent. It’s quite annoying to have it record all times because you want to watch the screen like it’s a mini TV so I find myself having to look away and not watch it actually record me drive. The playback is decent as well. Simple plug and play but the settings offer many options.

I haven't had long enough to comment on day-to-day use. The image quality is really nice, as you might expect with 4K. I don't drive a lot at night so, I can't comment on night imagery just yet. I have front and rear cameras, and the toggle between the 2 is very user-friendly. From what I can tell so far, the parking feature doesn't seem worth it. For example, with the sensitivity set at the highest level, it doesn't activate. Maybe you need to be hit hard for it to go off. For instance, if I open the back door, nothing happens. If I slam it hard, nothing happens. Maybe it's not supposed to; not sure, but I thought it should detect movement and a car slam is perhaps not enough? Another thought, if you get hit, and the camera comes on to record, isn't that after the fact? Maybe the camera will record them driving away? Why does this matter? The internal battery powers this feature, and it seems to drain relatively quickly, even if there are no encounters. I'll have to do more testing, but if the Parking feature is causing the drain and it doesn't work, it makes sense to disable it.
The APP...Initially, I couldn't get the app to work. Best buy installed and set the camera up, and I needed to set the app up. It wouldn't seem to connect. After research, I had to undo the initial camera set up and simultaneously join the app and camera set up. That seemed to do the trick. Just be aware. The tech did a great job. I think it's more of an app thing.
In terms of app functionality, it's not the best. It's clunky. It's probably easier to take the card out and transfer it to a drive. It does seem to have decent features, but I question how easy they will be to use when needed.
Lastly, in general, it seems that dashcams are a work in progress. When deciding, I think the camera resolution quality should be the top focus, given the quality of the imagery is vital. Being able to record effectively in different conditions is another. Having a camera system that gives you 360 coverage is the sweet spot. The camera needs to provide quality imagery, and you need to view and edit it.
It's still early for me to say if this camera is worth it or not because I haven't been able to test the various conditions, but so far, so good.

Hello,
In Parking Mode the 622GW should be able to detect any doors opening or closing, and then turn on to record. Please be aware that the 'G-Sensor' and 'Parking Mode' are separate settings. The G-sensor setting is adjustable at low, medium and high, where as Parking Mode is not adjustable. Please ensure that you have Parking Mode enabled: 1) Turn the Dash Cam on 2) Stop it recording (by pressing the red circle) 3) Go into Settings (the button in the top left) 4) Go into Setup settings 5) Scroll across to ‘Parking Mode’ 6) Enable or disable Parking Mode here

Did considerable research and the Nextbase 622GW came up as one of the best dashcams for the money. I purchased the bundle (622 dashcam & mount + hardwire kit + 32Gb SD card + carrying case + rear camera) at Best Buy for Christmas. I have installed it in my 2014 F150 crew cab pick-up.
Pros:
- 622GW camera is small and unobtrusive, especially when mounted in the proper place on the windshield. Currently using the suction cup mount - which works well - until I am sure of the location.
- Installation of the hardwire kit was fairly involved but not rocket science. The kit comes with everything you should need, including two (2) options for fuses (I had to purchase a 10A fuse b/c my truck uses micro fuses). Routing the wire and then finding a good ground location took most of the time.
- Installation of the rear camera was very easy, including routing the ~21 ft cable (6.5m) through through the headliner near the doors.
- Unit works as advertised and essentially runs itself once powered.
- PC-based software allows you to view (on a larger screen) and edit the recordings.
Cons:
- Initial firmware update was a challenge. I could not get the iPhone app to finish the install and reverted to the PC software to do it, which finally worked after several failed attempts to connect to the dashcam. Not a great initial experience.
- Transferring files (mp4 format ) from the dashcam to the PC is better done via an SD card reader (I bought one at Best Buy to do this) v. transferring directly from the dashcam. The transfer directly via the included USB cable from the 622 to the PC was hit or miss. I found it to be much more reliable and much faster using an SD/Micro-SD card reader.
I have not attempted to edit any of the files (they are in MP4 format) yet using the PC-based software but once the file is loaded, the user interface appears to be straightforward.
Aside from the initial start-up/firmware upgrade issues, I have been pleased so far.

Good Camera Just Needs A Better App

Recommend have Best Buy install the camera in order for it to get power directly from your vehicle to get the most of it. The camera itself is good. Offers great quality records and its easy to use. The app on the other hand is a bit of a mess. It's clunky and not easy to use. It constantly gets stuck on trying to connect to the internet (which it just can't on your phone via cellular connection only wifi). With that it makes it hard to review any video collected. I'm still trying to rectify that issue with NextBase tech support. Otherwise its seems like a great dashcam.

I gave it 4 STARS due to disconnect issues. Other than that it has a super clear 4K picture. Easy to remove when necessary. I'm using the cigarette lighter install options. The installer did a wonderful job hiding the cords out of view, you would think its connect to the battery. I love it. now I have a piece of mine catching offensive drivers and proof of collisions.

The image quality is good, its an improvement from my old 1080 dashcam from another brand. But like others have commented its too expensive. I bought it when there was a small discount for $340 [I had to buy it as a package deal]. The App for android is slightly difficult to do the initial setup. User friendliness could be improved. Its the newest version for Nextbase so its an improvement from the 522 version which I tested inperson and I could see the fuzziness.

The product is performing great, It turns on whenever the vehicle starts and overall captures great footage, telemetry, GPS, velocity etc... If you want the best hands off and easy experience with a dashcam this thing is the way to go. Nextbase sells other dashcams that are sub 4k capture quality but its best that you skip those and jump to this 4k model in order to best capture a license plate, and I mean it.
My only critique is that the device only recognizes 1 phone device, meaning that once you paired your (MyNextBase) app to the camera you must go to the camera's setting to unpair the phone whenever someone else wants to pair their phone to the camera. Also whenever you want to re-pair your phone to the camera, you must press forget (nextbase) Bluetooth profile from your phone then re-initiate the pairing process from the app to the camera. Other than that the pairing process is reliable and stable whenever you whip out your phone thereafter because the camera sees your phone as its sole user.
However its best to get a 128gb SD card as the SD card fills up quickly with 4k footage, and I mean it.

Nextbase’s newest generation dashcam fixed a lot of the nitpicking issues I had with my previous models. I loved the stability and modularity of the Nextbases so much I put one in both my car as well as my wife’s car.
What issues did I have? Well, videos even in daylight with my models from a few years ago were crisp, until I tried to zoom in and catch license plates during videos taken during incidents.
The 622GW adds digital image stabilization for clearer images despite the vibrations that occur when you get hit. In addition, What3Words is baked into the unit. For those unfamiliar, it’s an app that uses three key words to provide precise geolocation during an emergency. Takes the guesswork out of telling dispatch, “I rolled my car in the rain and I’m in a ditch somewhere off the road” and instead allows them to find you much more accurately with only the three words.
Also, on my previous models, I had to buy separate polarizing filters for the cameras, but this year, in the 622GW, the filters are built in.
With a side slot that allows you to add modules (sold separately) you can get a specific rear camera for the interior (like for ride-sharing security) or rear facing to record behind your car. No separate software to install, you literally just plug in the module and it’s good to go.
Firmware updates are easy through the MyNextbase app, which also lets you live view, review/save videos, and check on your sd card memory or even format all from the app.

I like this Dashcam and the quality videos it produces. It's very easy to use along with straight forward setting options. You can also touch the screen while in use to take a picture. The Wi-Fi set-up was quick and easy although it does go into a spin cycle before connecting sometimes. I don't use it with the phone so that's not really an issue for me. my one issue was the Firmware update which took several tries to complete.

After a few days of interent forums and reddit this cam has serious problems. First problem is the internal battery is trash and after seeing some real reviews on reddit and dashcam forums. The battery seems to only last 6mos to a year and is impossible to replace as replacement batteries on the site are never in stock. So a $400 camera becomes a brick. So if you wanna protect your car while parked theres a great chance it wont have the juice to captire anything. Second problem is only certain SD cards work as it looks like it was designed this way to make you buy their own branded card as seen on the box. It causes the camera to freeze on start up. Who knows if i would work while your car is off and parked. This camera seems to be a money grab and is probably why alot of yiutube reviews dont even mess with reviewing them. Its designed to work past the warranty and fail. The camera is nice but the guts of if is made as cheap as possible. I would avoid and look elsewhere.

Hello, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered with your camera. We take customer feedback seriously and will use it to improve our products and services. We do recommend our own SD cards as they have been designed for our cameras to deal with the constant loop recording and overwriting of the footage. A battery is classed as a consumable item so can fail after a certain amount of charge cycles, but it should not fail within the Dash Cam warranty period. Good camera, easy to use menus, easy install. One issue noticed is that the internal battery doesn't seem to hold up very well. Have hardwired the camera and rear camera into the vehicle, so not a big deal as it charges while the vehicle is on. Desktop software very useful. Built-in Alexa is good too.

After spending $600 one would think I would have a nice 4K dashcam. Best Buy installed it and for 3 weeks it performed well. BTW, for those concerned about Nextbase's high price memory card, I've got a SanDisk 256GB MAX Endurance microSDXC Card installed without any issues. If you are scanning reviews to confirm that a different card will work, there you go. The Nextbase app is sketchy meaning half the time the app doesn't connect to my dashcam. After 3 weeks the front dashcam fell off the windshield. Best Buys installers are booked for the next 4 weeks. I spoke with the Customer Service British chap for Nextbase and he supposedly is sending me out a replacement part to fix my issue but it has to "go through customs". The shipping time appears to be as long as it is from China on a popular auction site. The dashcam is useless if it won't stay on the windshield and I have little confidence that the replacement part will be any better than the original part. Cars get too hot to keep it stuck on. I will update if things change for the better. Also, Best Buy needs to open up their phone system (like they actually answered their phones pre-Covid) so customers can speak to someone at their store. They don't seem to realize when the phone rings money is calling. Sorry, I don't have any pictures but just envision a dangling dashcam (paperweight).

Hello,
Your SanDisk Max Endurance 256GB SD card is not compatible for use in the 622GW- the maximum compatible SD card size is 128GB. We only recommend using Nextbase SD cards in Nextbase Dash Cams. We have two types of mounts available; a suction cup or an adhesive mount. I'd recommend using the provided adhesive mount as it is considerably more durable and less prone to temperature fluctuations within the vehicle. We've also provided a spare adhesive pad in the box.
I hope this helps.

Huge step up from my cheap dashcam

The first thing I noticed with the Nextbase dashcam is how wide the angle is compared to my cheap dashcam. It covers much more of the road which can be a huge help if there is a problem and you need to see other cars.
The clarity is also superb compared to my previous model. It records in 1-minute increments and is very easy to connect to a PC and review, save and store any that you might need.
It also connects to Alexa and I am still playing with those settings. You can apparently ask Alexa to take a picture, save video, etc. There is also a button on the bottom to push and save video. I have used Alexa to ask about the traffic on my commute to and from work.
Having a quality dashcam can pay for itself if it helps exonerate you in one accident.
I have shared a screenshot of the video (the video was too large to upload even when I cropped it to just a short clip). You can see the picture quality, the direction, longitude, latitude, and speed along with the date and time at the bottom.
The only downside is that the included instructions are minimal. You need to download the app and find instructions there. I prefer a manual I can hold in my hand and look up items.

After owning (and being disappointed) with other dash cams, I have finally found one that delivers as promised.
Pros:
-4K! image is fantastic
-Image stabilization, this makes a huge difference in the video quality.
-Alexa, as an Alexa user at home I found this integration seamless and have found myself using it frequently.
-Night Mode, by far the best night time video from a dash cam
-Wifi & Bluetooth, easy, quick connection to bluetooth when you get in the car.
Cons:
-None yet
I have enjoyed this camera so far and recommend to anyone looking for the best of the best.

Pretty easy to install and set up in your car. Thankfully, it comes with the option to use a suction mount instead of an adhesive. It is highly recommended to upgrade the firmware on the camera to the latest version before first use and you should definitely check periodically for new versions. There is an iPhone/iOS app with extra features that are nice to have but not necessarily required to use.
Recordings look nice and steady while driving and the mic/sound is also pretty good. A downside is 60fps recording is only in 1080p resolution but not a total dealbreaker since it does record in 4k (at 30fps).
SD card is separate, unfortunately. I would recommend getting at least a 128GB card instead of the standard 32GB card since the latter can fill up quickly with 4k footage.

I purchased this dash cam a few years back. The first year that I had it, it kept freezing up. Their customer support kept blaming my memory card, but it continued after I replaced it with ine of theirs. After an firmware update it started working fine. Then towards the 2 year mark it started doing it again and then the battery went. When inquiring about the freezing issue I asked if the issue could have been caused by the Las Vegas heat and they said no, they were rated for it. Then at 2 years the heat killed the battery. It swelled up so much that it split the case and made it to where I couldn't get the card out. The life span doesn't offset the price. Maybe make a battery replacement option for the user.

Not a very good dash cam. I have had a few in the past, but I went for this one because I read/heard a lot of good reviews. Mine would not update the firmware while connected to my new iPhone nor the computer, both with excellent internet connection. Also, it would freeze while turning on, I would have to wait for the battery to die before doing anything. Not even the manual reset button would work. True 4K footage, but everything else 1 star.

Yes it's expensive and it does have pros and cons:
PRO-
-4K videos - fantastic
-easy to remove and take with you
-cable was easy to route with the included spudger, it took about 10 minutes to hide in my vehicle
CON-
-very particular about the SD card you have to use. Make sure it is endurance rated. The unit will (ours has several times) freeze. After a second purchase I found a compatible SD card that does work and isn't as expensive as the OEM card.
-it gets VERY HOT - be careful of the metal contact surfaces that mount the unit to your windshield
This is our second Unit, but our only 4K unit. The difference in the quality of the recording is noticeable.

Picked up the dash cam and am pretty happy with it so far. The picture quality is great and the image stabilization is great! It was easy to install. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the battery on the camera. I have to have it plugged in at all times even after I charged the camera itself. The software is nice but it is the only place to really see all the features the camera offers. On the mobile app, I wish it'd allow to zoom in. It may, but I have not figured it out yet. Overall a great camera and I'd recommend it and I would also recommend getting the 128GB SD card and not a smaller one.
