In doing my research in buying a dash cam, I came across nextbase and noticed they came highly rated. When they launched this new line of Dash Cams I figured now was the time to go to Best Buy and purchase. This Dash Cam is only available at Best Buy. I love the hands free control and also like it has an SOS feature. I did not know that it has Alexa Built in which was a pleasant surprise. I bought the best one for the slightly larger screen and has a built in polarizing filter. I would highly recommend this Dash Cam!

Can't even read a license plate in full daylight

I've been comparing its performance during different hours of the day and I'm not impressed. I'm about to return it for a refund but decided to rate it first. I can connect to it with my phone but its super slow to download files. Much faster to just pull the card and do it on a pc. Then the video quality is poor. I've run it in 1080 @ 60 fps and 1440 @ 30 fps and they're about the same. If I'm lucky I can make out a license plate with some guestimation. I have a cheap chinese action camera that performs about as well and it cost a fraction of what this cost. Then my unit freezes up while trying to access the lcd screen. Not only that but I charged it for well over two hours when I got it and just as soon as I unplugged it from power I got the annoying battery low warning klaxon then it shut off. I plugged it to a hard wire, 3rd party as their hard wire kit isn't compatible with micro fuses. The camera works sometimes and then it doesn't. Last night it stopped recording two hours after I parked it but started up again when I got back in it this morning to go to work. Then it sits too far back off my windshield so glare becomes and issue. Driving down the street allows streetlights and car headlights to really impede its ability to see my surroundings. Interior lights also end up in the video as it picks up their reflection off the glass. Do yourself a favor and avoid this unit!

The Camera is well worth it, quality and very much user friendly but, the only downfall in my opinion is the App it needs to get the bugs fixed and or better updates

I have had this a while and it has worked great. However, the app is subpar and it has fallen from my window about 5 times since owning it. It works fine, though it is not amazing.

      Hi Yiny,

We have two types of mount brackets available; a suction cup or an adhesive mount. The adhesive mount is more durable and less prone to external and internal temperature variations.

I'd recommend using your adhesive mount instead, which is in the box. If you're already using the adhesive mount, but the pad has lost it's adhesiveness, then you can find a spare replacement pad in the box.

Its okay i keep having to reset it which is really starting to make me mad and I've done everything right, i got the memory card i was supposed to, and i keep it charged because it dies in literally like 10 mins if that which is absurd and it records almost everything that happens which is good and the picture quality is great.

Having tried cheap dashcams, I was ready for an upgrade. The NextBase 522GW definitely provided that! It really represents a significant step up in dashcams, but it's not without some minor foibles. Open the box and the first thing you notice is that the construction quality of everything is excellent. The camera has a great feel to it and the mounts are solid with no wiggle. Setup is easy, very straightforward and intuitive. Two mounts are included in the package, one 'permanent' with an adhesive patch, and one 'transient' with a suction cup, which works better than any others I've used. The camera attaches to the mount by a (really, really strong) magnet. This is one of the first foibles you will note however; there is no MicroSD card included. You will have to supply one separately. The second foible is that although NextBase provides a tool to help route the power cable under the trim, they only provide a power port (cigarette lighter, for all of you old enough to remember) connector. A hardwire kit is available separately, which if you're going to go to the trouble of shoving the power line under the trim makes a lot of sense. Once the camera is set up, affix the mount, plug in the power cable, and you're ready to start recording. The camera automagically starts when the car starts and stops shortly after the power is turned off. The touchscreen is very bright, viewable even in bright light, and very responsive. The menus are intuitive and easy to figure out. The camera has an internal rechargeable battery, so the camera can be removed and used outside the car. The video quality is excellent, absolutely first rate. The default recording is 1440p@30hz, but you can record 1080p@60hz if you feel the need for higher frame rates. I didn't experience any problem with the 30hz recording. The lens is a wide angle (140 degree) with minimal fisheye distortion and is very sharp. License plates are easily read. It deals with high contrast scenes (eg., coming out of a tunnel into bright sunlight) very well without blooming or flare). There is no problem with night recording either. The camera records both GPS coordinates and G-shock movements. Although there is no advertised stabilization, there was no problem even on bumpy roads. The NextBase pc/mac video playback program shows gps, speed, G-shock(accelerometer), and map location in addition to the playback video. It may be using the accelerometer data to stabilize the playback, but in any case there doesn't seem to be any problem with vibration. NextBase made the rear-facing camera optional with three separate modules depending on your particular needs. Only one module can be attached at a time. There is a rear window mount camera, and two that mount directly on the camera (one regular and one telephoto). Any of the modules are an additional $100. Although it's nice to have the versatility of the different types of rear facing cameras, I would have expected at least one to be included at this price point. There are several features tied to the phone app or Alexa integration, included a optional crash detector that will dial for help in case of an accident. It works with the phone app and will dial for help if you don't respond to a notification. NextBase does seem to be looking to find additional functions to add to their products. In summary, the NextBase 522GW is a bit pricey, but is feature packed and more importantly, does an excellent job of video recording. It's solidly constructed and hopefully you'll never need it. But if you do, you can count on it.

Good camera overall but quite difficult to set up. It needed a huge firmware update which necessitated a call to the manufacturer because there aren’t instructions. I would still recommend it though.

    Problems - doesn't always record

I liked the idea of this camera, but in actuality, it fails at the one thing it's supposed to -always- be doing - recording video. There's a 'travelapse' feature, but if you use it, when it's done it isn't recording video It also doesn't record regular video when doing the travelapse stuff, so if you got into an accident while recording a travelapse video, you're out of luck. There's a parking mode, but if you get that option turned off it's unclear as to if it's going to record again in 'regular' mode. You can't record video while it's transferring anything to your phone (This I can possibly forgive as some other cameras have the same limitation) Every time I tried to use the Alexa command, the camera would freeze and stop recording. When you're done transferring videos, you have to remember to put it back in record mode. It's also very difficult to remove the thing from the magnetic mount (to carry it inside to just transfer from the SD card/USB cable). Good news that it won't fall out, but that means it just becomes harder to use if I'm avoiding the wifi direct transfer (it's slow - but that's an android limitation more than anything) In short, it's default mode should always be 'recording' unless i'm doing something specifically that makes it stop. That is not the case with this product.
