I removed it from the windshield of one car to a new car's and it has worked well. It seems very durable as I have dropped it onto the dashboard a few times.

I love having the ability to record exactly what I'm seeing on the road. I purchased the optional rear camera as well. They work great.

Only problem I have encountered so far is figuring out how to reformat the data card inside the device. Instruction manual does not come with device, but is downloadable from manufacturer's website.

Worked well for a week, then began to intermittently “freeze up” and stop recording every 10-15 minutes. Had to reset the dash cam by powering it off and then restarting it. Now working with Nextbase tech support to resolve the issue. After some back and forth, they have offered to exchange my dash cam for a new one under warranty. I will revisit this review in a week or two if they actually follow through and if the replacement works any better.

An excellent dash cam with few minor issues

I have had few dash cams in the past and I can say that this one beats them all hand down. The video and image quality is excellent (1440p at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps). I would recommend using 1440p setting. It also records audio but you can turn that off in the setting menu. It DOES NOT come with a micro SD card, so remember to get one when you buy this one. Also, get a high endurance U3 rated card which are designed for speed and constant use because it records at 1440p non-stop. There is a nextbase app which connects your smartphone with the cam seamlessly. A number of settings can be accessed via the app or via the in-built screen on the cam. I find app better than the in-built screen though. It comes with an adhesive mount as well as suction cup mount (if you don't want to put a strong adhesive on your windscreen). The power cable is my biggest peeve with this. 1) The power adapter is a "Mini" USB (Yup, no micro or USB-C), 2) While the supplied vehicle power adapter has a really long cable that can be easily in the trim using the supplied fitting tool, it would have been better if it was a USB cable so that it could be used with existing car chargers (e.g. I have a smart car charger Anker Bolt which provides quicker charging for up to two devices). If I use the provided cable than I won't be able to charge my phone while driving any more. Thus, I had to buy a long "mini" USB cable which is also difficult to find as it is mostly outdated. Other than the above issue, it is an almost perfect dash cam. It has an intelligent Parking mode which thankfully I haven't used yet. But it is supposed to record any bump or physical movement on the vehicle when left unattended. But you will need to leave the power on to the camera at all times which might be a drain on your car battery. There is a setting to turn it off automatically. It also comes with Alexa integration but I haven't tried that. Also, there is an Emergency SOS feature. Thankfully, I haven't used that either. One more good feature is adjustable lens polarization. If you see any glare from your windshield, you can rotate the lens and it will polarize to reduce the glare. Overall, I am happy with it. It would have been great if it comes with a micro SD card and the supplied power adapter had a plug and play USB (micro) cable.

the speedometer screensaver is awesome and you can attach an addon (separate purchase) rear view camera without having the need to extend the wire down to the rear side of the car

The camera itself is good, however it will not stay connected to my phone. Every time I leave my car and then come back later to go somewhere it shows no connection. I have to unpair and re-setup my phone and camera. I took it to the bestbuy install and had them try it. It happened with them also. They said I should return it but that it seems there is a problem with this particular camera.

      Hello,

I am sorry to hear that you are having an app connection issue with your phone. It is likely that the phone's settings are not setup correctly. I would recommend checking the following settings on your phone:

iPhone: on your iPhone, go into Settings- MyNextbase- Background Refresh Data- Ensure this is turned on. If you see 'Location' this must also be set to 'Always'.
Then go to your MyNextbase Connect app and click on the menu in the top left of the app home screen. Select App Settings and turn on ‘Enable Low Resolution Downloads'.

Android: on your phone, go into Settings- Apps- MyNextbase- Notifications- Ensure these are set to On. Then go back one screen to Permissions and ensure these are also turned on.
Then go to your MyNextbase Connect app and click on the menu in the top left of the app home screen. Select App Settings and turn on ‘Prefer Wi-Fi Direct Downloads’, ‘Allow analytics’ and ‘Enable Low Resolution Downloads' (if available on your model of phone).

If you have any further questions, please contact our Support Team at support@nextbase.com.

    NextBase is the worst app

First let me start by saying that i had this camera for at least 10 months. The dash cam is actually decent but the companion app “NextBase” is the worst app I ever experienced in my entire life. Where do I even start. Poor connection/not fast Disconnect from my phone a lot When attempting to connect the camera forgets my phone from the Bluetooth list so I have to establish a new connection which is a pain to do. It takes forever to load my videos on the app. Like I mention earlier it takes forever to even download any videos. The app’s glitches a lot and force closes on my phone. I have and IPhone 13 pro and a Galaxy Fold 3 and on both phones the app sucks. So no it is not my phones it’s the app that sucks. The whole point is that it’s convenient for me to access the camera content from my phone but the app can’t even do that. I don’t recommend any camera that uses “NextBase” as their application. The developers are incompetent and they do not support it. For a camera that is suppose to be premium the application is not. Save yourself the headache and get a better camera with a better application.

      Hello David,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

The Series 2 Dash Cameras are only single device compatible. This means that one Dash Cam can be connected to one mobile phone and visa versa. It is not possible to connect multiple phones to one camera, or multiple cameras to one phone. Trying to access the dashcam from multiple devices will result in frequent disconnections. I would recommend choosing one phone to attach the dashcam to.

iPhone: on your iPhone, go into Settings- MyNextbase- Background Refresh Data- Ensure this is turned on.

Select App Settings and turn on ‘Prefer Wi-Fi Direct Downloads’, ‘Allow analytics’ and ‘Enable Low Resolution Downloads'.

If you need any further connection assistance, please email support@nextbase.com and we can help get you up and running.

Absolute garbage... I had a Nextbase 322GW and it was OK but would super-heat and freeze up at least two times a week. I had the 2 year GeekSquad protection and decided to warranty it out and replaced it with the Nextbase 522GW with a drivers camera upgrade. This 522GW is the worst dashcam I've ever owned as it heats up and also freezes up but in this case, continuously. I have to reset this unit around 5 to 8 times a day as I'm driving all day. This unit is getting returned to Best Buy tomorrow and I'll never buy another Nextbase product as we are two for two in the failure arena. Stay away from this garbage.

      Hello,
SD cards only have limited lifespans. In our manuals we recommend formatting every 2-3 weeks to prolong the life of the card. Without this regular formatting, or if the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing.
Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc.
If you're having continuous freezing, please ensure you're using a compatible SD card and formatting regularly. Please email support@nextbase.com if you need further advice.

This dash camera is pretty pricey. Within the first week it froze and wouldn’t do anything. For the price of this camera its quality should be better than malfunctioning in its first week of use. I returned to store for refund because I wasn’t going to play games exchanging it just to have the next ine go bad right after warranty or waiting for GEEK squad to repair it.

We purchased this dash cam to be installed into a 2017 Nissan Rogue. We were told the rear cam could not be mounted on the lift gate of a Nissan Rogue. So we never got to use it and exchanged it for a Thinkware X1000. We were told by the Best Buy representative that the Thinkware would mount in the Nissan Rogue.
