Great Camera Easy to install and use

Overall this is a great camera, with a great picture. So why not 5/5, well., that is because it takes forever to download a video from the camera to the phone. It takes so long that I turned the camera on, and it was only able to download one 30 second clip before it shut off due to inactivity of the vehicle moving. Overall the features are good, but like I stated before it takes a long time to download a video to the phone. The video quality is great, the screen saver option allows to only view speed or you can view live view. The ease of set up and mounting is definitely a plus.

Hello! I'm so sorry to hear this. Can you please tell me the brand of SD card you are using? Can you also tell me the serial number of your dash cam (on the bottom of your unit) and the firmware version you are currently running? I would love to help get your camera back up and running! If you would prefer, you can send us an email at nasupport@nextbase.com with this information for assistance troubleshooting.

    Sharpest and Best Touchscreen

This is a very nice dash cam. I liked the app, although it took me two tries to get it to show ‘live feed’ on my cell phone. But it was my fault since I didn’t follow the instructions and tried to do it on the fly. So advice upfront in my review is to follow the setup guide. I had to actually reset the camera and start all over to get everything to work. This dash cam had the best screen of any I have used. Indeed it was a couple steps above the others – extremely sharp and bright. Also this screen tested better than others as far as the touch screen capability – super nice. I may add a rear dash cam and this one has the feature to just plug it into this camera - very easy. You can get a rearview camera that acts like a rear view mirror or one that captures the inside of the vehicle. These are both options. The rear-facing camera will just plug into the side of this camera so no other wiring is needed. It records GPS, speed, date and you can turn them off separately. It has the ability to auto-save video sections if it senses an impact – which is a requirement of any dash cam I think. It also can interface with Alexa and even has an emergency response SOS to alert emergency services to your location if needed. I found the wide angle view gives you a perfect capture of the road ahead and oncoming traffic. Small point but the included flat spudger tool was really helpful to tuck the cable under your windshield trim; and it was easier to hide the installation cable all the way to the power socket using this tool. This camera is a little more expensive than others but given the better fit and finish and the quality of the lens and the 3" IPS touch screen it is well worth it and I would recommend it.

    Perfect dashcam from Nextbase

I have had the Nextbase 522 GW for a week or so, and it’s worked perfectly. The mount works well. I could position it very close to the mirror. I find myself checking it out often, and it does not distract me. The dashcam worked just as advertised, and it recognizes my 128Gb Sandisk Extreme Plus card. I record both on loop and on time-lapse, and both are working correctly. The collision sensor is a bit sensitive but is easy to change the setting. As I said, the Video recording is excellent and bright, with no image disturbances or shake. I am delighted with its overall performance, as I had a cheaper dashcam from a different manufacturer, and it did not even come close to this quality. I wish it had a regular USB connection; I am not too happy with the cigarette lighter connection. However, I am ordering the hard wire connection kit from Nextbase, so I will soon be doing away with the lighter connection. I am going on a three-day trip and am looking forward to getting to use it to its full potential. In my opinion, it's the best dashcam for the money. I am also ordering the rear view adapter, and I hope that performs just as well!

    My first dashcam - awesome

After a few accidents where others smashed into me and I was deemed partially to blame by my insurance company, I was recommended to get a dashcam to protect me from all those idiots on the roads. This is the top of the range one and saw some awesome reviews of it online. It is easy to use, no gimmicks and hooks up seamlessly to my phone. I tested the footage on my way home from work last night, and even in the dark, the footage is great - you can see everything. Haven't tried the Alexa yet, but I do like the emergency feature too.

    Great features and video

I would like to mention that this dash cam actually has a lot of great features, and a high quality metal design. The camera itself feels very solid, and has a good weight to it. It, not like some cheap models that feel like they'd blow out your window. The cam comes with a magnetic mount between the camera and base. Making it capable to remove the camera after an incident, and record a quick video or snapshots of the outside of your vehicle, and the surrounding location. Because of the larger resolution (1440p), I really would not recommend using any SD cards smaller than 128GB. I tried the unit with a 32GB card, removed the duplicate file recording feature, and still could not view any recordings from the previous day, because that footage had already been re-written over. It looks like I was getting 2.5hrs of video for 30GB of space, at full resolution. Because Nextbase is pretty popular, they do have some accessories that can enhance your DVR, primarily a backup camera, cabin view or rear window camera. All of these options are hard wired directly into the extra video port on the side of your camera. ( I am not sure how these accessories would record in conjunction with your main camera view, as I do not have any of them, yet) I have also heard, but not confirmed that some Auto Insurance companies give a discount for using a name brand dash cam, like Nextbase It could be because how thorough the information collected in the videos is. The built in GPS shows the current longitude, latitude and speed in every frame, as well as displaying the date, time and model dash cam. You can even add your license plate to the display. The dash cam can also sync directly to your smart phone, through the Nextbase app. Here you can update the camera software, and view a live stream, or access saved videos. Even though the camera and phone are initially connected with a Bluetooth connection, to video stream and update the software a direct wifi connection is needed, the app will make this connection for you, but you will need to make sure that your phone has a "download booster" type option, where it can access the internet through the WIFI and Cellular connection at the same time, otherwise the update process would most likely have to be done manually by downloading the file on your PC and transferring it to the SD card. -If your phone is set to only use data from just one connection, you will continue to get an error, this is because your phone is connected to the camera through the wifi, but also trying to use the data through the wifi. (which in this case, has no internet signal) I also had a bit of time trying to connect the Alexa feature to my phone. If you have problems at first with this feature, restart both your phone and the camera. Then navigate the dash cam settings to the Alexa options, when you get to the screen that gives you a barcode to download the Alexa app to your phone, stay on that screen until the connection is completed. Next on your phone install and run the Alexa app. , Open up the Nextbase app, and disable, but then re-enable the Alexa options in the Nextbase app, ...from here you will try to connect the Nextbase app to the Alexa app. follow the instructions on screen . If 2 options for your dash cam pop up to connect to, in the devices portion of the Alexa app, pick the shorter device name. After a successful connection, touching the Alexa logo on the dash cam screen, will cause a short beep, and Alexa will await your command. (note, that you can just say the word Alexa after everything is connected properly) ***** The Alexa app, will add specific skills for the dash cam SOON, but as of right now, the Alexa features to control the dash cam are not yet active. Customer support is estimating 2 more weeks at the time of this review. However, all normal Alexa commands to check the weather, and what not, work fine right now. The battery in the device is a nice feature, but can only maintain the camera for approximately 15mins, so keep that in mind, when leaving your vehicle unattended for extended periods of time,..i.e vacations. I would also like to mention that customer service and support for Nextbase products is very good, even though they are headquartered in the UK, they do have a Texas based phone number in America to handle all support issues. It takes less than a minute to get an agent, and are very quick at helping you out. The higher video resolution is nice, but you still need to be somewhat close to other vehicles ( maybe 20 feet or less) to actually read license plates in the videos or still shots. The low distortion wide angle view is very good at providing full coverage in front of your vehicle, and along both front fenders, without the fisheye look. now, the negatives (unfortunately, because I really like this brand): there is no type of night vision, the camera does have a low lux rating, but no way to capture video in complete darkness. This doesn't help if the G sensor gets activated in a parking spot, at night or in a dark garage, the recordings are just too dark to see anything. It also gives everything a tunnel vision look, driving at night. Don't get me wrong, the recordings still work well at night, on anything lit up, but it would still be nice to see what is going on in very dark areas. The mount, while very sturdy, lacks the ability to swivel in all directions. It lets you pivot the camera up and down, and then slightly to the right and left. I really wanted to try to mount my camera in a less obtrusive location on my window. I tried to put the suction cup upside down, to snug everything to the top of my window, but this was not possible, due to the limited swivel capabilities of the mount. Neither could I place the mount at a side angle. The only position available is the original upright one. The G sensor by default, for some reason registers bumps in the road, as me hitting the " protect video" button on the cam. There is absolutely nothing even close to hitting this on my window, and the bumps in the road are not even that bad, but I have a lot of unintentionally saved protected videos, which is kind of a problem for recording space, and it also makes it tougher to find videos that you actually wanted to save. ( there is an adjustment for the G sensor sensitivity, but this will effect the parking monitor feature) Overall this dash cam offers great HD video, with minimal effort on your part. Once connected to the cars power, it automatically records every time you start the vehicle up, and stops shortly after the vehicle shuts off. However if you like features, like the rest of us, -- this is the first dash cam to offer up all these options in the same device; GPS details, 1440p video , Alexa , app streaming and sharing, parking monitor, and emergency SOS with location alerts.

This camera is just the right size to not take up too much room on your windshield. The magnetic mount holds the unit securely in place and the power cord is just the right length. You will need to purchase a separate microSD card to be able to record data on a ongoing basis. The screen is touchscreen and easy to see and navigate. The picture is very good and can record in up to 1080P. The G-sensor will automatically save data if it detects a crash and you can manually save clips as well so they are not overwritten. It is a good buy for all the features that you get for the price. You can also add an optional backup camera as well. I highly recommend if you drive a lot and want the piece of mind that you can capture any expected moments that come across.

It gives me a great since of security to know there's a 'second' set of eyes and it's recording! Setup is extremely easy using the touchscreen. Also dowloading the app from the playstore. The hardest part of the whole process was routing the cables around the windshield and honestly, it was really simple. A couple of observations; the user guide sent with the dash cam is just a quick start guide without much detail. Also in order to see the camera with the ignition off, it needs to be hardwired to the fusebox. Other than those two things the Nextbase is small enough (roughly the dimension of a playing card) that it doesn't interfere with vision and although I've not used it at night I'm hoping for clear recording like I get during the day

First off, this is one of the simplest cameras I have ever used! You really don't need the manual when you first use it. My favorite feature so far, is the fact that you can use Amazon right from the device itself! It is very responsive, and sometimes I just find myself talking to it throughout the day while I'm in the car. It's really clear on 1080p so that's what I leave it on. I was told to keep it on 1080p in case I have an accident and need to do a frame by frame slow down. Apparently as much easier in 1080p than the highest resolution. I wish they included the rear backup camera with it in a package, but other than that I love when I'm getting so far!

The firmware update had a hiccup but ended well. I used the MyNextbase Connect app on my phone to perform the upgrade and the camera didn’t restart like it should. It became unresponsive and wouldn’t shut off using the power button. I unplugged the external power and waited for the internal battery to die. I plugged in again and restarted the camera to complete the update. It took multiple attempts to get the MicroSD card to “catch” and stay inserted. I’m using a 64GB card I had on hand and I don’t think I will get a larger card. Make sure your card is branded class 10. The camera uses mini USB, a larger connector and not as common as micro USB. Nice of them to include the cable. You can power the camera in your vehicle using any mini USB cable instead of the supplied 12V power cable. I routed USB extension cables inside my A-pillars years ago, so I have female USB plugs at my sun visor mounts. Perfect for this camera. The magnetic Click&Go Pro GPS mount is strong. So Strong, it is difficult not to change the aim of the mount when disconnecting the camera. I’m using the suction cup mount but I’m going to switch to the adhesive mount. This system is convenient and clean looking since the camera is powered through the mount. The 3” touch screen makes it easy to use this camera. Tap and swipe to navigate the settings. Large enough to see when re-aiming the camera. The built-in polarizing filter works great to cut glare if you take the time to set it correctly. With 1440p video resolution I am surprised how often I can’t make out license plates. The focus seems fine but this is my first dash cam so I may be expecting a bit more detail than 1440 provides in real life. It would have been nice to include a cheap draw string bag to protect the camera lens and touch screen when disconnected from the mount, but they do sell a neoprene case. I didn’t realize the Emergency SOS feature is a one-year free trial. I can’t find any pricing information so it will be a surprise a year from now. The MyNextbase Player app for your desktop computer is worth the free download. You can play back the video clips while seeing the position/route overlaid on Google Maps or OpenStreet Maps. The G-Sensor data is displayed on graphs and there is a speedometer and compass. Switching to full screen displays only the video from the camera. The video editor in the app is a little clunky. It crashed during one edit and then it worked fine during the next attempt. It allows you to join video segments, trim the video, annotate frames, set a title screen and choose several output settings. I’m really happy with this camera. I need another one for our other vehicle.

    Very nice dashcam

This is my first dashcam, so I really didn't know what to expect, from installation to everyday use. I was pleasantly surprised with everything. The cam comes with almost everything you need to get started. It comes with the cam, mount, usb cable, 12v cahrging cable for the vehicle, and a little tool to help with routing the cable. Notably missing is an SD card. I received a review unit through the TIN program, which they made sure to provide a NextBase brand SD card, but keep in mind this does not come with it if you purchase the cam yourself. And they recommend their own SD cards because of the nature of the continuously recording and rewriting of data. I'd much prefer if they include the SD card in this case. I suspect most people will just use whatever spare SD card they have laying around, or cheap one they find on sale, and that may negatively affect performance. Starting with installation, it really is not very difficult at all. You just stick the mount to the windshield with the pre-applied 3M sticky pad, and then route the cable to your vehicle's 12v outlet. This was the part I wasn't too sure about. If you're concerned as well, don't be, and worst case scenario, you can just leave the cable dangling. But really, you just kind of tuck the cable into the edge of your vehicle's lining all the way around until you reach your outlet. This will differ from vehicle to vehicle, but for mine it was really easy, and there was only one little section near the door where there was nowhere to tuck the cable, so it is exposed. They even provide a little tool to help put the cable in if you can't do it by hand. Overall, it sounds worse than it is. Once connected, you just turn it on, and go through the prompts on screen to set it up. There is also an app you can load onto your phone. Once all set up, it really is simple to use. It is all automatic. When you turn on your vehicle, it automatically turns on and starts recording. By default, it records 1 minute videos, but you can change this to 2 or 3 minute videos if you want. There is a "protect" button which you can press at anytime to "protect" the current video that is recording, which basically just protects it from getting deleted once the SD card fills up. Once you are ready to get the videos off the cam, there are a couple different ways. You can use the phone app. This method is convenient, and works well enough, but it is much slower than I would like. If you are trying to download any more than 1 or 2 videos I would just use the next method. Which is just connecting the camera or SD card directly to a computer. Then you can either use NextBase's own software, or just treat it like any other usb drive and drag and drop the files you need. This will be much fast than using the smart phone connection. The actual quality of the videos is great. It is 1440p, which isn't 4k, but it's pretty darn good. You can easily make out things like license plates and street signs. It is also 30fps, which is pretty good. Of course, I'd prefer 4k, 60fps, but what we get is still pretty good. Where things get really interesting, and I wasn't expecting, is the information that gets recorded along with your video. The cam has builtin GPS and other sensors, so it can give you a map and speed info right along with the video. In the app, you'll see the map and speed info, and when you export the video, you can even have that info included in text at the bottom. For location data, it of course can't give you a whole map, but it will include GPS coordinates right along side date/time/and speed info. It's really cool, and I can see being extremely useful for things like insurance or court cases. There are really a ton of features with the cam, app, and desktop software that I haven't even touched yet. So, it can be a really simple plug and play device, or if you want to dig in to all the different features and customization, they give you that option. Overall, it is a really great dash cam that I think anyone looking for one will be very satisfied with.

Ive used this camera now for a while, first off this is a great camera. Seems to have a solid build quality, Nice crisp video, easy install, UI is fine, but the companion app is a wreck. Normally this would not be much of an issue, but many functions of the camera are not available without it. I use an iPhone 8 and the app will not connect the phone to the camera no matter what I try. Ive gone online, watched the videos, nothing has worked. I've tried for two weeks with no luck, so I have given up. I don't know if it is an iPhone issue only, but if you own an iPhone and want to have full use of this camera, you may want to reconsider. If this issue is resolved I would highly recommend the camera, but for now I cannot.

I got this dash cam to replace a model that I’ve had for about a year or so and I couldn't wait to install this. The model i was sent had some issues with powering on and off and got extremely hot. I contacted Nextbase's customer service and after running some tests, they determined it needed to be replaced. Much to my surprise, they told me i would have a replacement the next day. I was completely amazed and couldn't believe they would respond so quickly to my problem. That is a definite plus right off the bat for me. After charging the device for two hours, updating the firmware and adjusting the settings, I installed the camera using the wiring kit that I had from the previous dash camera. The display is crystal clear and the built in polarizing filter adds to the clarity by reducing the glare from the front window. It came with two methods of mounting the camera. One is the Click & Go Pro mount, which I didn’t use because my front windshield is tinted. Instead I used the double sided tape and mounted it to a module under my rearview mirror. It has been in the high 90’s the last few days and it hasn’t budged. When I setup my camera, I manually entered the date, time, location and my vehicle license plate. The instructions say that the information will be updated once a satellite is found, but I preferred to do it myself. I set my camera to turn on the screen saver, so I didn’t have to see what the camera was recording constantly and when it came on, it displayed my driving speed on the screen, which I thought was a nice feature. The camera comes with one year of Emergency SOS, which is a service that can contact emergency services in the event of an accident. The service will contact your cell number several times and if no response is received, then emergency services will be contacted. This is a great feature that I hope I never need. I’m not sure how much the service costs after the first year though. If you are involved in an accident, the recording is automatically protected so it can’t be deleted unless the user decides to do so. You also have the option of pressing a button below the screen to manually protect the recording. Some of the other great features include the Intelligent Parking Mode, which puts your camera in standby until any physical contact is made with your vehicle and then it begins recording. It records for three minutes and then goes back into standby mode. Auto sync is one of my favorite features of this dash cam. Once you pair your phone with the camera, you can download the clips directly to your phone. You can also remove the memory card and using the Nextbase desktop software, transfer the data to your computer. This camera also has Alexa built in and although I’m still navigating my way around Alexa vs. Siri, I liked the idea of being able to play audiobooks, check the weather, etc. from the dash cam. According to their website, they are creating a Nextbase skill that will allow Alexa to use commands like, start and stop recording, protect recording and transfer clips to your phone. When this becomes available, I’m going to have to really learn more of how to integrate Alexa into my camera. There are some great accessories that you can purchase separately for recording inside of the cabin, recording rear seat passengers and recording out of your rear window. My previous cam had the rear window camera so this is one I will certainly be adding to my system. If you are a professional driver, I can see the cabin camera being a great asset. I feel like I’m forgetting some features, but just by what I’ve said this is just an all-around great dash cam, with excellent options and a reasonable price. Don’t forget to pick up a memory card and make sure that it is “U3” rated, which is ideal for 4k recording and is used in drones and high speed cameras. I have a 32gb card which is said to be good for up to four hours of HD footage or two hours if you are using an additional camera. I plan to pick up a 128gb card, just so that I have more recording space. I highly recommend this dash camera. You won’t be disappointed.

I've had the chance to use the Nextbase 522GW Dash Cam for about a week now. I had a bit of trouble at first updating the firmware but had great customer service from Nextbase. This was very easy to set-up and start using. It is Alexa enabled and allows you to use that in your car for things like playing music, making calls, etc. It is a bit disappointing that you can not use Alexa to take a picture. You still have to manually hit the button on the device to do that. The mounting has worked great in the hot Florida sun. I have had issues with other mountings not surviving the hot Florida heat. This device does not come with a SD card - so you will need to add that on your own. I have put 4 stars because I still have had some connectivity issues with my Apply iPhone. Other than that, it has worked great and has great video quality.

The Nextbase 522GW dashcam is great. It is easy to install, but more importantly, comes with two features I especially love. First and foremost, the Emergency SOS option. If the dashcam detects a wreck, and the driver is unresponsive, it will notify emergency services. That is some great peace of mind. Second, Parking Mode is great. It is similar to the Sentry mode on a Tesla. If the dashcam detects a disturbance, it will start recording. Pair this with the ability to add extra cameras (rear, side, etc.) with this system, and you can have some great coverage. Having a dashcam is a smart idea for insurance purposes, and this is a great option.

We're still feeling out this dash cam. We had another one, a smaller one, that got stolen. This dash cam is way bigger and seems to have more features and far better recording. We might have crossed a line somewhere, but it is a really fun device to have. Set up is a bit of a bear. They provide a tool to help navigate the power cord around to the power source. The unit is also pretty big. Finding the right spot for it where we won't be distracted has been a bit of a challenge. I do like the convenience of taking the unit with me, though. This one won't be stolen. The device connects to your front windshield either with a suction cup or glue. As we haven't figured out the best place for it, we're using the suction cup. It hasn't yet fallen, which is always a fear when using suction cups. The unit is pretty big, but that means that the screen is pretty big, too. I LIKE being able to see the commands and being able to see a larger video. Better still (and sort of insane) is that it has Alexa built in and supports Alexa voice commands and integrates with all your other Alexa devices (if you have them). Connection to your phone is through an easily set up app. It can download and edit video, send video, and send a special SOS if you have that set up. The unit can serve as a turn by turn gps (which is sort of nice if your car is old and doesn't offer that sort of thing). It costs more, but you can also get an additional camera for the back of your car and then the front unit can also serve as a back-up camera (we don't have this, but are very intrigued. Our car is older than backup cameras). Really, it's quite flexible. It's a pretty terrific unit. The stuff we don't like are the power cable, which is a pain to get in place and the pop-off covers for the various connections, which seem .... sort of cheap and easily lost or broken. Everything else seems very top shelf and well thought out. We'd recommend it for anyone who has to drive. Lots of crazy people on the roads these days. Knowing that this is capturing each moment of our commute really helps.

Upon unboxing was a breeze, setup however was simple for some features, while some others took a little trial and error. The instruction booklet is pretty much no help. The 12v car charger and USB adapter both use an older connection which is kind of strange, and for me the battery is useless. Added the app to my Iphone and Android phone. Worked flawlessly with my android, Iphone however was another story. Whenever I tried to log in on iphone it would freeze my phone and I had to restart the phone. The unit does get very hot also, especially in the winshield. Last thing it does not come with a memory car, so make sure to get a U3 rated mem card to use

The screen is a decent size, the picture quality is great. Playback was very easy. Set up was a little bit much. Required at 2 hours charge before first use. The app for your phone needed didn’t work at first took a few hours before it worked and downloaded the software update for the dash cam. Sound quality on the playback is good. First use the camera didn’t turn off after the car was turned off. Otherwise it’s been a good dash cam. Not to small not big.

I have a very strong opinion that everyone should have a dash cam, especially to help reduce/remove your liability if the situation occurs. I have had dash cams for 4 years now, and while I have been lucky enough to not have been in an accident, there have been way too many close calls. I've liked being able to capture those to review the incident later. Since I was finally able to talk my wife into putting a dash cam in her vehicle, I installed my previous Nextbase dashcam (320XR) in there, and got the 522GW for mine. One of the many things I like about Nextbase dash cams is their standard powered mount design (Click&Go Pro), which allows any of their models to be installed. With the power connecting to the mount instead of the dash cam itself allow it to be easily removed (I say "easily" but the strong magnet that holds it in place makes you put a little extra effort into taking it off) to connect to a TV (through the Mini HDMI port) or to your computer (through the mini USB), although I find it just as easy to pop out the microSD card and plug it into a card reader. The 522GW comes with their Click&Go Pro GPS mount to provide the GPS data. The screen is a 3" HD IPS touch screen and has only two non-touchscreen buttons: power and protect video. Be sure to check the microSD card specs that will be used. It needs at least a Class 10, but it will need to be U3 in order to use a rear camera if you decide to purchase one. It comes with an extra full pad mount (which the Click&Go Pro mount attaches to), which will allow having a pad mount in two vehicles, and can switch the Click&Go Pro mount and camera between the vehicles as necessary. The front camera has a 140º Wide Angle lens, and produces nice videos. There are different resolutions to choose from. The highest is 1440p, but it is only at 30fps. This does provide better image details when pausing, but isn’t as smooth looking while playing the video. The other options are 1080P/60fps and 1080P/30fps. I'm still not sure on which resolution I will keep it at. For the file sizes, at 3-minutes (which can set 1, 2 or 3 minutes video lengths), a 1400p file is only about 100MB bigger than a 1080P/60fps file (~600MB compared to just under 500MB). There is also a setting to have it record a lower-resolution video file in addition to the main file. This one is recorded at 480P/30fps. It does handle driving in the direction of the sun quite well, especially with the help of the polarizing lens filter. There isn't as much glare and can still the other vehicles and surroundings clearly. Night videos are decent but can be a bit grainy when not much lighting (which was not unexpected), but is still decent in well-lit areas. It does have Intelligent Parking Mode, where it will record a 30 second video if it detects physical movement of the vehicle, and will go back into standby after 5 minutes of no additional movement. It is recommended by Nextbase to install a hard-wire kit if using the parking mode as it will turn of the parking mode when the battery is drained to 11.2V. The 522GW has built-in Wi-Fi (to allow managing, viewing, and downloading video files directly to your phone through the MyNextBase Connect app) and low-power Bluetooth (needed for MyNextBase app and/or Alexa connectivity). And it seems that just about every device is getting a digital assistant built in lately, and that is the case here as Alexa capability is included. It will use your phone's active audio output (such as bluetooth or AUX cable to your car speakers) for response. For the dash cam related features, you can ask Alexa to stop or start recording. I probably won't be using this feature as our vehicles have another digital assistant built-in to the entertainment system. The Wi-Fi downloading feature is nice to have, but if you have it set to 1440P and 3-minute files, the High resolution ones are fairly big (as mentioned earlier) and it does take quite a while to download to the phone. As I mentioned earlier, I will more than likely bring in the microSD card when necessary to copy the video files I want to save. A safety feature that is also available is Emergency SOS (which has a 12-month free trial). When enabled and set up, If it detects a crash, it will start a 2 minute timer. If the time isn't canceled, it will send your personal and medical Information (that you have configured) to Emergency Services (not sure what exact that entails in the US, though) through the MyNextBase app on your phone. The PC app, MyNextBase Player, is a nice little app that retrieves all the data stored (GPS, compass and shock sensor data) and displays the "realtime" data as you watch your video. It also show the route taken along with an indicator of the current position in the video while the video is being played in your choice of map application (Google Maps or OpenStreet Maps). You can also click on a point on the route in the map, and the player will automatically go to that point in the video (nice feature if you are looking for something specific and you know around were it was in your drive). The app also has Snapshot, video editing (including trimming and annotating) and video sharing (uploading to MyNextbase Cloud or YouTube) capabilities. You will also be able to update dash cam firmware from the app (although it said it was up to date, but the app on my phone said there was an update, so I did it from there). The only issue I have with the PC app is that you have to manually add a video to the list to be able to play. I would prefer that it monitor specified folder(s) for available videos to play. There are accessories that can be purchase separately, such as rear-view cameras and the hard-wire kit (which I will eventually be getting). I was a little disappointed that I can't use the Rear Window camera from the 320XR at the moment with the 522GW as that version uses a cable with a USB Type-C connector to the camera, so I will probably look to find a cable with the Mini HDMI connector the 522GW uses. I think this is a great dash cam and I think anyone would feel the same!

Next Base 2 Deter Theft + More

After a relaxing meal at restaurant downtown, I discovered my rear window smashed and a litany of items stolen. I am now equipped with greater potential to deter theft or to get a decent mug shot or video of a perpetrator. The NEXTBASE 422GW 16 STEP QUICK START GUIDE made what I imagined would be a headache of a mounting task into an easy peasy installation. The NEXTBASE team promised a more seamless experience with their next gen design and they get high marks as discovered in comparison with consumer feedback on previous iterations. So, equipped now with 1440p HD resolution, a 140 degree wide angle view shed, a 2.5" touch screen, 10Hz GPS , Wifi Connect and Bluetooth 4.2, the upgrade affords simplicity in installation and screen management. Moreover, the unit's design is compact enough to afford an unobstructed view while driving; but, I posted the Dash Cam decal to alert any new round of thieves of active surveillance. To prevent getting stuck at setup, at POS, be sure to pick up a 32GB microSD Card. And, to avoid unforeseen compatibility issues, I chose the NEXTBASE microSD Card that affords 4 hours of coverage, overwriting in a loop unless you manually protect video footage by pressing the lock button on the camera. So far, I/we have to trust, that CLOUD STORAGE is secure. But, for sure, storage is FREE for 30 days before deletion, allowing a good window of time to capture and share any incidents necessary to make your case. BTW, if you integrate their REAR CAMERA into the dashcam then the FRONT CAMERA will overwrite every 2 hours. When ready to install the rear camera I have on hand, I will have to call NEXT BASE CS to verify compatibility with a non-proprietary platform. Will report accordingly. I scanned the code in the START UP GUIDE with my QR Reader and was taken to the website. The features of all versions of NEXT BASE are outlined. But, without a projected time frame for delivery, there's a promise of a forthcoming download activating the ALEXA Built-in voice control for lots of commands: ALEXA... "call Mom" "drive home" "gas station near me" "find parking near me" "play audible.com Harry Potter + the Sorcerer's Stone" "start recording" "save my files" "auto synch" "send video to my phone" "play my music" "send SOS" "call 911" "send medical info to dispatch" "what's the news" "what's the weather" So far, my Samsung Android J7 (27A) is enabled to edit videos. I shared a test clip to my Dell Windows 10 without a hitch then to my phone. Now, I am set up to fast forward footage to my insurer, documenting accident or theft. The MANUAL says for Apple, you need 10.3 or later. Editing suite provides a ZOOM feature to get close ups of important details in the footage like license plates, street signs, facial features, etc A feature I didn't expect is INTELLIGENT PARKING MODE. Next level G FORCE is activated when parked and sensitive enough to capture any jostling of the vehicle, a bump or contact, inadvertent or intended, for 3-minute intervals. Though personally not yet tested, I like the promise that if the driver is unresponsive after an impact, NEXTBASE will summon emergency services guided by GPS to the site and informed in advance of medical identification data. Please note, 911 coverage is afforded in the US for FREE for the initial 12 months then paid thereafter. At the time of an incident, if the driver IS responsive and the alert summons help, the driver is responsible for disabling the dispatch. Have to wonder if "false alarms not cancelled" will become reason for jurisdictions to fine those who lack the mindfulness to act accordingly. Before subscribing, set aside a good block to drill down on the Terms of 911 Coverage outlined at the website. YouTube has clips that assist with set up as well as footage that demos resolution value of day/night footage; buy, R+D should post promo demos of Alexa capabilities and related nifty features by showcasing incident simulations (crash, theft, bumps, grinds, etc), especially the unresponsive driver scenario. Apologies if this is a 'been there, done that'; but, my cursory search didn’t turn up those insights. BTW, I found the online NEXTBASE pages need more careful proofreading to eliminate redundant copy.
