High End and Fun Dash Cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nextbase 522GW dash camera comes sealed in a nice attractive box, which when opened reveals a solidly constructed dash cam, complete with USB and auto power cables and a 2-piece customizable mounting system for dash or window mounting. Included is a tapered tool meant to help the user tuck the power cord inside the edges of interior molding and headliner to make your install a bit neater, and keep the power cable out of the way. The cable is plenty long enough for just about any vehicle if the power source is in the front of the cab. You must put a suitable high-speed micro SD card in the camera before you go any further. Like just about everything in modern electronics, there is an app for your phone to pair the cam and then control it, and view and download the recordings. The app reports it is connecting to the camera via a "high speed" WiFi connection, but it took almost 4 minutes to actually transfer a 1 minute, 199Mb HD video to the phone from the camera. (The video was recorded at the best setting, choosing one of the two lower-but still HD-resolution formats would result in a smaller file of course.) Here's the problem though--the video options allow for 2 versions of the file saved on the camera--a high resolution and a low resolution (low res meant for viewing on your phone and forwarding to someone else, high res meant for viewing and editing on a computer.) Only the high res versions were available for transfer wirelessly on my phone, but the smaller files at low res were available once I removed the SD card and opened it on my PC. Nextbase support told me that they hadn't determined whether it was a bug, or something to do with my phone (A Moto G running Oreo.) I was confident after actually talking to a tech on the support line that they will have a solution. When viewing a recording in the "library" of downloaded videos on the phone, the lower half of the screen displays a map of where you drove when it was recorded, and a telemetry screen shows you the data for the recording--the speed of your vehicle, the direction it was moving, and the GPS coordinates. A similar high-end product I have had for years would only show you the map data when you downloaded the files and viewed them in the proprietary software on computer. The 522GW shows it to you on the phone, and also with the MyNextbase Player app on a Windows PC. You can pair the camera software with the Alexa app on your phone to enable some voice commands to the camera. The first time I tried getting Alexa to do something with the camera, it was reporting that the camera was not connected to the phone, while it was. I think the Alexa features need work. I'm happy with the job Google does of GPS etc. with my phone so I don't know what Alexa could do to help if I have to be connected with the phone anyway. You can connect another Nextbase camera (a rear-facing one) to the GW522 and monitor both videos from the app. I'm inclined to want to do that! The phone app is easy to use, and pretty stylish with nice clear menus and selection buttons. Once you get a video imported to your computer, the desktop app MyNextbase Player is ready for viewing and editing videos. It worked well. You can also do basic editing on the camera screen itself (trimming.) Overall, the Nextbase GW522 seems like a good quality camera and the video is sharp and clear. The camera seems sturdy and well-made, and the features of the camera software, phone app and desktop app all seem to add value and fun. I'd hold back a star for the problem getting the low-res video versions to my phone, but that might be *my* problem, and even if it is their problem I am sure they will solve it.

Security builds peace of mind.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After doing the research on Dash Cams the Nextbase 522GW was at the top of my preferences. I purchased 2 forward dash cams and 1 rear dash cam. The install was very easy to do; it works like a charm. Nothing but praise for all the components and operating system. The high quality of the image is equal to my iphone. Having the cams adds an exceptional level of evidence in the event of an accident. It takes the "he said, she said" out of the legal question. The cams also have the effect of drawing attention to being a safer driver, and not being the cause of accident. If you are the victim of a car accident, you, your insurance company, and your attorney will be happier than a pig in mud. Thanks to all the techno wizards that know how to design and build these tools.

Good image quality, nice dash cam!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In my opinion having a video backup in case of an accident on the road is something extremely important in the resolution of such a situation, on top of this having the opportunity to receive medical assistance seems to me that this dash cam is worth every penny. First of all it is important to mention that an SD memory which is not included in the box, there are SD memories of the same brand which is a good alternative. The unboxing is simple, what somehow takes more time is the installation of the device in the car, once done, the app for the phone will guide you through the necessary settings and those of our preference, the 3" screen works pretty well, I could access my videos and change the settings such as quality, in my opinion 1440p is pretty good and at 30fps looks great, in practice I can say that the app is very useful and to be able to use this Alexa is a plus. I think one of the most important things is to have quick and easy access to the videos that the camera has recorded and in that department the app is the one that allows this to be possible, it communicates via wifi with the camera and shares information and has other customization options, I can say that the performance is what I expected as this dash cam fully fulfills its purpose. It is also possible to add more devices such as an external or internal rear camera to be able to be aware of what happens outside and inside your car, it will depend on the needs of each person if you want to add any other device. One of the options that this device gives you in relation to your safety and health, is that it is possible, with the necessary configuration and data, to have medical assistance in case of an accident, as mentioned on this site, if an accident occurs the dash cam will activate an alarm that if at a certain time is not deactivated, the location and driver data (previously registered) will be sent to the nearest medical service who will call the driver to confirm that assistance is required and come to help, it may not be for everyone but it seems to me something very interesting. In conclusion, if 1440p 30fps is an image quality that you are looking for or that is perfect for you or your needs, this dash cam that has a very decent performance could save the day, connect with your phone, have access to your videos instantly, a magnetic base (Click and go pro mount) that allows you to detach the camera and place it again, connect with Alexa app, the option to have medical assistance in case of an accident in my opinion make it a great option, recommended.

Good product with some technical glitches
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OK-- this is a mixed bag for me. I am going to recommend this product with some reservations but mind you this is a great buy if you are into dashcams for the first time and want to get your feet wet. The set up is easy and the battery feature is great. You can toggle between different cars with no problems. However, the picture quality while crisp, is definitely not a greta upgrade over the previous release. The wifi direct technicalities leave a lot to be desired. The parking mode is glitchy and may need an update. The app needs more work as well. My review copy came with a SD card. Now, if you just put this on your screen and drive around and have no worries about the concomitant attributes, then this will definitely do the job. These are normally dependable sets and last a long time and can save you serious money and worries, just that one time, when it matters the most.

Great for Individual or Business Use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The NEXTBASE 522GW Dashcam delivers crisp video recording at Ultra clear 1440p QUAD HD recording at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps. Visible via the bright and clear 3” touch screen with IPS technology for a wide viewing angle. The dash camera supports a MicroSD card up to 128GB MicroSD card (not included). The MicroSD U3 class card is required when using the rear cam module. Ensure you buy one MicroSD SD card, as internal storage is not available. The MicroSD card can be formatted directly with the dash camera, it formatted our camera to an exFAT. The dash camera also contains an inbuilt polarizing filter, that reduces windscreen reflection and glares. Great improvement cutting through windshield glare. It uses the Click&Go Pro GPS sturdy mount with magnetic clip allows users to easily install or remove the dash camera with only one hand. If you manage a fleet of vehicles and you are required by law, directive, policy to save your videos for a period of time; this is your dash camera. The easy method to transfer videos via WiFi and Bluetooth from your dash camera to the phone is superb. With the usage of the MyNextbase Player (iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, MAC), this device offers the flexibility to send footage directly to the insurance company, social media, cloud storage, or save it on the phone. The NextBase dash camera provides a fast and secure connection to the computer or smartphone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The Parking mode is not set up by default, the intelligent parking mode automatically starts recoding when a motion in front of the camera is detected. Adding a safety and recording capability while the car is parked. I was impressed with the Android application, the app suite includes full editing capabilities, allowing the users to find the important section of footage without the need to download separate editing software. Additionally, once the app is installed, it provides you the opportunity to receive and approved regular updates to the firmware. Once the app was installed, it offers me an update from firmware 19.9 to Firmware 21. The update process went without any issues, and it took only 2 minutes. Overall I highly recommend the NEXTBASE 522GW Dashcam.

Very Promising v2. Great cam, App not at all.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Top features Alexa built-in, Emergency SOS and Bluetooth 4.2, not seen before in any other Dash Cam 1440p HD resolution at 30 fps, Inbuilt Polarising Filter, 3” HD IPS touch screen, 140° viewing angle, 10Hz GPS Module, Bluetooth 4.2 , Wi-Fi via MyNextbase Connect and PC/Mac software – MyNextbase Play The good… The camera is built solid. It doesn't feel like other dashcams out there with its heft. The display is a gorgeous IPS screen with a 140 degree viewing angle. The mounting options are extremely sturdy and I love the ability to swap the sticky tape mount with the suction cup mount. The GPS module is integrated into the mount and help together by an strong magnet. GPS is great and coordinates are accurate although I don't see any way to see where you were in Google maps without their software. The footage does not carry metadata so it seems it is a proprietary file container that stores the data in the video itself. I love the touch screen interface and I rarely use any physical buttons. Picture quality is above average and the polarizing filter really sets this apart from the others. You can eliminate windshield glare or chose to darken the sky, whichever you device, footage looks incredible in daylight. You can get the details needed by cropping in. Vibration is a huge problem with this camera. It causes what would be otherwise great footage to be shaky footage with hard to read details. 1080p and 1440 are great during the day. Low light footage is extremely noisy and pixelated. I love the built-in polarizing filter because it helps cut glare from windshields. You will need to buy memory card since it isn't included. The 522GW supports UHS3 cards up to 128GB. Video quality is comparable to maybe a 2010 flagship phone. You won't be shooting any films with this thing for sure! I Love Alexa integration! This is a first as far as I am aware. The connection is through your phone so if you aren't connected to your car speakers, audio responses will come from your phone. I can now retire my Garmin Speak from the equation. The app can integrate audio through Bluetooth in your vehicle so your vehicle will essentially be upgraded to stream your favorite music app. Now the not so good… The Nextbase app is slow and clunky at best on both Android and iOS. It often disconnects and is pretty much useless. I wish there was a desktop software to read the telematics and show on a map where you were. I have experienced many "internal error" messages without explanation to attempt to troubleshoot. Restarting the app, restarting the camera, and reconnecting seems to fix it I guess? This is so bad that you can only pair one device to the camera. So if you have multiple drivers only one person can be linked to it to take advantage of the Alexa compatibility. MyNextbase Player is the computer program that allows you access to the metadata regarding GPS and speed. Unfortunately, you are not able to extract metadata. Live view works in the app with a slight lag and in order to watch a clip you actually have to download it which doesn't make sense when you are connected to a Wi-Fi. Overall the app is useless and more of a beta there must be some other way that you can extract GPS information. SOS keeps going off even after I set it to off. I really want to like this thing but this app is completely a mess. I think I will do things the old-fashioned way and take the SD card out and read the footage from my computer. Random reboots happening. I don't know if it is the heat but it is about 100 here. No volume controls on the camera during playback. Needs a way to see videos as a list to get to where you want to be sooner. Currently you have to tap through everything in chronological order. There should be a way to sort for sure. What's with this? No way to magnify either to see details on the screen. What we have here is a top contender and innovator in the dash cam industry and I look forward to seeing this develop. It is a top 3 camera for me but there are others out there with better features and footage.

Great Peace of Mind
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nextbase 522GW has a nice sized 3 inch HD screen to allow for easy setup and operation of the DashCam. With Alexa built in its also easy to control various features with your voice for the best of hands-free operation. Also included on the unit itself is a polarizing lens which is a nice touch helping to mitigate glare. To set up the Nextbase 522GW I charged it for 2hrs as instructed and then I was ready to go. Make sure to either purchase a Nextbase microSD Card or equivalent to insure you will always be able to record. As a dash cam is always writing and rewriting data this is key to having a recording available when you need it. An XC-U3-V30 speed card will be sufficient for your needs, I’d recommended getting no less than a 64GB Card but you can go as high as 128GB. Power is supplied with a Cigarette Lighter Adapter or you can purchase a hardwire kit. Mounting is achieved with a combination adhesive and magnetic mount that allows for easy removal of the 533GW from your vehicle if needed and routing of the power wire is made easier with the included tool to help hide the wire in between crevasses in your car for a nice clean install. There is built in GPS that records your location which is refreshed 10x every second to allow for very precise location data recording. Next, download the Nextbase Connect App to allow your smartphone to communicate with the camera seamlessly which allows you to easily share content if needed. The My Nextbase Player can also be downloaded to your PC for video editing, sharing etc. All this is great but how is the video quality? I think its great with just a tad of video quality degradation at night but tolerable, I found 1080P is the best quality for night recroding as it has a slightly higher light sensitivity. The pic is crisp enough to make out details such as license plates etc if needed in the case of an accident or other mishap, and with the aid of the included polarizing lens you have a crystal-clear pic. Intelligent Parking Mode is also very useful as it keeps a watchful eye on your car when its parked and you are away. Using the G-sensor in the camera it detects motion such as a jolt to the car and it will start recording for you to be able to look back and see what happened and who did it. Overall I found the Nextbase 522GW to be a well built high quality great addition to my car and a contributor to peace of mind should something happen.

Easy to use and install.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pickup at the store was quick, easy, and hassle-free. The 522 is exactly as described. I haven't noticed the need for image stabilization, which is a feature on the 622. But 4K might be a reason to consider the 622 over the 522. Finer details, like license plate clarity, could be better. Otherwise, the video review is smooth; like watching a movie.

Better than my other dashcams
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really love this camera. The picture quality is clear and sharp. The exposure option helps with that, it lets you set the lighting. You can set it at different levels that best fit for how it is outside. This is great because your not stuck with the same level of lighting, on sunny, cloudy, and at nighttime you can adjust the lighting just right. This is my third dashcam and that option sets this dashcam apart from my other two.

Easy to install and great piece of mind!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first experience with a dash cam and I am very pleased with it. Out of the box, I powered it on and updated the firmware and downloaded the app. The app interface is awesome, very intuitive and simple to use. I installed it in my truck and that was also simple and straightforward. I love the ability to wirelessly send videos to my phone over WiFi with the dash cam, built in Alexa is also convenient. Overall really happy with this camera and would definitely recommend.

Great Dashcam with plenty of features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nextbase - 522GW is a great dashcam packed with features in a compact design. Included in the box: -Dash Cam -Instruction Manual -Suction Mount -Click & Go Pro Mount -12-24V Power Cable -Power Cable Fitting Tool The Nextbase - 522GW has Alexa built in which is a neat feature. It has a 3" IPS touchscreen which is clear and I appreciate that it is a touchscreen. On some of the previous dashcams that I have owned most have physical buttons that make the unit bigger or come with a smaller screen because of the buttons. Video recording is 1440p at 30 FPS. Some other features include built in G-sensor, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi enabled, 140° viewing angle, supports microSD cards up to 128GB. There is also an app for the daschcam which is very user friendly. Video and sound recordings are clear whether day or night. You can download videos to your phone or transfer to PC which is useful. The Nextbase - 522GW will be replacing my current dashcam since i like it so much. Another feature of this unit is that it accepts additional camera modules that can plug into the unit itself if you chose to buy them separately, they include a rear facing camera and a rear window camera. Overall this is a great feature packed dashcam for those looking to have some peace of mind while driving.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just about everything is done correctly with this dash cam - Starts up when you start the car - Protects data in the event of a collision - Filters out road glare - Most of the necessary accessories are included (no SD card) I could not give it 5 stars, since the micro SD slot is tricky to navigate Overall a solid dash cam

Great quality - well designed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned another dashcam but it didn't last very long. I tried the Nextbase 522GW as I had seen some good reviews on it. I liked the features as well as the look so I decided to get it. I was impressed with the packaging of the device as well as the information given on how to set it up. I was also impressed with the design of the device as well as the 3" touchscreen display. All of the cables and mounting bracket parts were included and well-labeled. Compared to my last dashcam, this smaller unit packs much more into the devices. The design of the buttons on the touchscreen display were very intuitive and clear. It's important to follow the instructions closely. I didn't download the app first so I had to go back when things weren't connecting properly. When I had the app, my phone connected quickly and I was up and running. The quality of video on this dashcam is excellent. The app is also well-designed as all navigation elements are clearly labeled and easy to learn. If you're looking for a dashcam in this price range, I highly-recommend the Nextbase 522GW.

Not ready for primetime
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is junk and is the bed of my truck (thrown) - While the picture is good, it ends there - The camera starts for no apparent reason - It does not start when I really need it - The SOS goes off and give me a warning. I turned that option off, and it continues - It frequently says no phone is attached when it is right next to it - Videos do not transfer to the phone - Videos are not always available on the camera - I have had to reformat the flash drive three (3) times due to errors - Worst of all - it just locked-up my iPhone 5s max and I had to do a hard reset I am doing a restore to my iPhone 5s Max right now to repair the damage Lots of other choices in this area, so choose wisely

Nice when it works... buy the extended warranty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the NextBase 522gw based on wirecutter's review and wouldn't buy it again. And the unit just stopped working suddenly after 6 months. It starts and stops on its own even when turned off. I've updated all firmware, not sure if it's battery related or software but I never had these problems with any product from Garmin. Their documentation is all over the place and contradicts itself too, depending on what you're referencing. Jack of all trades, master of none. I guess this is why Amazon doesn't sell Nextbase products anymore.

This an awesome feature-packed dash cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up is straightforward and easy. The touchscreen is vibrant and responsive. The mounting solution is very impressive, with the camera being held to the mount via a very strong magnet. The power cable actually plugs into the mount, and then powers the camera through the magnet mount location. The idea is that you can pop the camera on and off the mount without having to take the mount down, or unplug the cable, very cool! Picture quality is great, plenty of configuration options in the menus. The wireless connection between camera and phone is surprisingly quick, which makes managing the device painless compared to other dash cams I have used in the past. Micro SD card support up to 128GB provides plenty of card options and recording time. Power cable is a mini usb if you want to invest in a hardwire kit. 1440p@30fps and 1080p@60fps are both supported on the device. Overall a great device, and I highly recommend it.

Great Video, But Connectivity Unstable
