Nextbase length of use issue

Early in 2022 it started to turn off intermittently, I thought it was a software issue, so I updated it. Now this unit won't turn on at all. I loved it while it was working but I don't know if I want to buy another one just to have to buy yet another one in two years right after my geek squad protection runs out.

Not recommended

I spent nearly $400 for the dash cam, the rear attachment, cables, etc. Had I not spent nearly $200 for the installation in addition, I would be returning it for a refund. The product has a glaring flaw that makes it very irritating to use. The screen saver mode will cease after 4 minutes after that, the screen will stay on for 30 seconds. This cycle will repeat constantly and is very distracting. I called customer support and they are aware of the issue. They claim it's the bluetooth connection and they are working on a firmware update. I cut off the bluetooth and it gives a bright red warning and an alarm that I am not connected, which is even more distracting. At this point, I am considering just taping over the product with some electrical tape so I don't have to deal with the distractions it causes. I do not recommend this product. For a supposedly premium dash cam, it's pretty terrible.

It has great high-quality video, extremely high resolution. However, after having this in my car for a while I realized my favorite part of the Nextbase, is the Alexa that is brought to my car. I use Alexa at home every day but having her in myyy car thanks to the Nextbase has been a joy!

Great Picture, but not reliable.

Now it will take 1 second videos when you hit record and then stop. Customer support said I needed one of their brand SD cards, tried the overpriced NextBase 32Gb card and have the same issue. Stopped attempting to use it, these are garbage and Nextbase customer support is horrible. The picture quality is great when the camera actually works.

Do you have a rear camera please? A recording stopping at 1 second is symptomatic of an SD card failure or a loose rear camera connector. Please ensure the Rear Window Camera cable is fully inserted where the cables join- it should click when it's fully connected together. There's a connector about 30 cm from the rear camera, this connector can be a little deceiving and needs to be really tight.

Rear dash cam wouldn't connect, and if it did temporarily display on the screen it was just a black screen. 3. Both the email and phone customer support were awful and unresponsive.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, I am sorry to hear that you had a problem with your rear camera. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and I am sorry that you feel this has not been your own personal experience.
An SD card is not included with the camera to allow you to choose the most appropriate size of SD card for your usage. Thee are three compatible Nextbase sizes to choose from; 32GB, 64GB or 128GB. We always recommend using a Nextbase SD card within a Nextbase dashcam to guarantee the functionality and warranty of the SD card.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing problems with your rear camera. I would recommend the following:
1. Please remove the SD card, then press the reset button on the underside of the Dash Cam. Then, without the SD card inserted, please plug in the rear camera. Then turn on the front camera. Does it now start normally? Can you now see the rear camera image?
2. Clean all of your rear camera connectors with an alcohol wipe to ensure that they're clean and free of debris.
3. Ensure the Rear Window Camera cable is fully inserted where the cables join- it should click when it's fully connected together. There's a connector about 30 cm from the rear camera, this connector can be a little deceiving and needs to be really tight.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So far I have had the camera 3 months If i take the memory card out and put it in the computer... fine Try to use my phone... forget it.. makes me want to throw my phone and the Nextbase off a cliff If you want easy to connect and use .... move on Seems to have a decent image WHEN I use the memory card directly in the Mac. Pretty much wish it was within the return period still.

Nextbase 522gw dash cam

I'm having problems with the stick on pads the camera it keeps on falling off. Iv cleaned the window multiple times and the camera just falls off really quickly. I'm not happy at all. Can anyone help me.

Stopped working after a few months

Camera stopped working after a few months, screen won't turn on and there is only a light blue on the side. Bestbuy said it was a hardware issue and was not covered under their protection plan.

You can connect your Dash Cam to your computer using the provided USB cable.
1) Plug your Dash Cam in. Ensure the cable is plugged directly into the dash cam and NOT via the mount.
2) If the dash cam does not appear as a drive on your computer, please try all the USB ports on your computer. Double check that the cable is via the camera and not via the mount. If it still does not show, please remove the cable from the computer, press the reset button on the underside of the camera and plug the USB cable back into the camera.
3) On the dash cam's screen you'll see a menu of 3 options. Please select 'Access Files' on the Dash Cam's screen.
4) Then the Dash Cam will be visible as a removable drive on your computer. If you go into My Computer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) you will be able to see the Dash Cam listed as a drive, usually called NEXTBASE.
5) Double click on this drive. You should then see nextbase.com, nextbase.info and DCIM.
6) Double click on 'DCIM'. Inside this you'll see a selection of folders. Inside these folders are your photos and footage.
7) You can copy the files onto your PC to save, view them using your computer's media player, or view the files using the correct Nextbase app.

Costly Mistake

Only good about it; clear picture on the screen of the device. I think it has actually connected w/my iPhone XS 1 time since I've owned it. Never connects, warnings of "missing permissions" on a daily basis for the last month. I fix the permissions, then the next time I get in the vehicle I get the red screen warning again. It has fallen off the windshield 3 times on hot days. The last time was yesterday & now it won't even turn on. Completely dead. Most expensive mistake I've made...

Camera is Okay but the MyNextBase App is terrible

Not worth the money

The app that works in conjunction with your phone is absolutely terrible. The dash cam tends to eat SD cards in that they are only good for several months and then they no longer work. I have never had this problem with my other Dash cams. I also have an issue where it randomly stops recording for a few moments and then starts recording again. Overall, there are much better products out there for the same cost if not for less.

SD cards only have limited lifespans. In our manuals we recommend formatting every 2-3 weeks to prolong the life of the card. Without this regular formatting, or if the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing.
Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc.
I'd recommend a Dash Cam compatible 8GB -128GB U3 Micro SD card, specifically designed for Dash Cam or CCTV usage. Using a dash cam compatible SD card instead should then allow your Dash Cam to function as designed. The card needs to have a minimum continuous write speed of 48MB/s.
Once you have a compatible SD card, and format every 2-3 weeks, your camera will work as designed.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, I am very sorry to hear that you've had some issues with your 522GW. You can update the firmware and download footage using the MyNextbase Player computer app or the MyNextbase Connect mobile app (if you have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection and are within 2 metres of the camera).
For Parking Mode, if the camera is completely still for five minutes (the car is parked), then the camera will 'hibernate' in Parking Mode. If your car is bumped and the G Force sensor registers movement then the dash cam will automatically turn on, record for 30 seconds and then shut back down again. If you are unlucky enough to be hit twice in a row then the dash cam would automatically record again and capture both events.
My sincerest apologies that you found it impossible to download the firmware or videos, it sounds like your Wi-Fi connection on your phone was not correctly enabled, which can cause these errors.
