I'm playing Dynasty with NHL '94 controls - OK

Last time I purchased a hockey game, I felt a little overwhelmed by the controls. At 40+ years of age, I don't have the time I used to to put into games so I wanted to go with old school controls I was semi-familiar with. So getting this and going with the '94 control scheme (one button for shoot / one for pass / one for deke), I hoped that would be cool. Well, not as cool as it used to be but I'm still winning. Having said that, I do feel WAY limited and am playing on semi-pro. About to up the difficulty to normal and see how I do. Again, you're limited compared to regular controls. Also, FYI, if you're into customizing your team -- like I did my expansion franchise Houston Aeros -- there are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY too many things to change. It's cool to be able to change so much but pretty tedious. Haven't delved into other modes.

Game is completely broken that there are too many things to list. The Beta for this game was perfection with the skating and poke checking, and now for the actual release they've undone it completely. There are phantom tripping calls. If you play the ProAm portion of the game be prepared for all of your cameras and controls to be messed up when you play one of the other features. Leveling up your character practically stops at Level 32 you've unlocked all of the attributes. Post game you cannot view the action tracker to see replays, but you can between periods. Post game you cannot see a box score but can between periods. You cannot play against friends in a matchmaking setting with a pin number. When the game ends, you have a minute to look at whatever stats or anything are available before you are forced back to the locker room. Goalies are either super dumb or super human.

NHL 19 is a game that shows strides in gameplay that make the game itself feel more like the real thing. Finally 5 man goal celebrations are back!! The physics have also been improved to make for more realistic outcomes for puck deflections, body checks, etc. The commentary has also seen an upgrade with less repeated lines and some more insightful thoughts by the commentator team. There are still a few things I would like to see added to make this a 5 star title, but overall the game is much more enjoyable than 18. The default gameplay sliders are still to overpowered. So in order to have a more realistic and balanced game, you will want to play with 6 minute periods and turn down shooting, passing and puck control to create a more realistic NHL game flow.

This is the first version of NHL I've bought on the next gen consoles so I can't really compare it to any of the last few years editions. The graphics are amazing and the game mechanics are great. You can play pond hockey in the World of Chel feature, which is cool. You do need Xbox live gold to play 3 of the 4 games modes in it though. The training camp feature is great (the last version I owned for 360 I had to google how to win faceoffs). It helps you learn how to do most of the fancy things with the right stick. I also like on Be A Pro how you get suggested things to do in the game, complete with the controller instructions, which help level up your pro.

I've been playing EA NHL every year since 2007. I only play the online verses mode, so if thats your thing, I can confirm the gameplay balances this year help to enhance the game. Some of the cheap scoring tactics have been eliminated, and poke check effectiveness has been dialed back (spamming the button puts you in the box). It loses a star because this otherwise looks just like the same game as before. The series needs a graphical overhaul badly.

So if you’re an EA gamer you know by now that each year these games receive minor tweaks/upgrades over the previous year. This year is no exception; however, the upgrades do make for an enjoyable experience. The outdoor threes isn’t much different from 18’s 3s in terms of game play, but the ability to customize your player and earn rewards is a nice touch. The added mechanics of crossover technology is great too and gives the game a more fluid feel. Would definitely recommend.

I buy NHL yearly, and there's still quirks I have with the series that I'd wish they'd fix - but this years entry is more of the same with updates to skating and the player builds in EASHL. The hockey bags do make things interesting once you unlock them, but I feel they add a lot of flash to this game and don't look at the underlying play issues that make the game feel a bit too arcade. The new ones is great though. Buy for fans of previous years.

I went into this season with high hopes. The ones mode is pretty cool but there is no party mode where you can play ones with your friends. Out door drop in is fun but even that gets stagnant after a while. The poke check button is now known as the penalty button.. EA did something to the skating and now it may seem more fluid but it’s slower. I keep buying every year with high hopes but might pass next year.

If you enjoy playing hockey, this game is great - especially with friends. My only complaint is that the game has bugs that will kick you from lobbies, kick you out of games (which is an automatic loss in EASHL if you are the goaltender) and you have to hard restart the game. This should not be occurring so late in the lifespan of this series, let alone game.

This is the best NHL game ever made hands down! The new modes combined with the incredible improvements to the gameplay engine make this the Hockey game to own. Don't want to sit down for a full- on gameplay session with long matches? Jump into the awesome EA Sports Ones mode for some sweet one-on-one-on-one pond hockey action. This mode is so fun it could be it's own game. Seriously, buy this game, It's a total blast!

I usually buy sports games every two years and this seems like EA made some strides in the series with skating and slightly with graphics. But the game needs more of a polish in the graphics and in some gameplay departments for this to be worth a full price purchase. EA needs to spend more time and resources to improve this game and all of their sports games. Good buy if you can get it on a discount.

Horribly flawed game. The gameplay mechanics are horrible. Doesn’t resemble anything like real hockey. Teammate AI in be a pro or horrible and incompetent while opposing teams AI pass the puck flawlessly and can skate seemlessly through the slot without any defense helping out. That’s just barely scratching the surface of this franchise that has just gotten so bad.

EA Sports continues to make the NHL hockey series one of the best video games going! With the traditional modes were all used to plane and some new fun takes that are more arcade-style, general manager, live the life, there is something for everyone if you enjoy hockey. I think this is a must-have for every hockey fan and a ton of fun to play.

The game is fun don’t get me wrong, just feels like every other EA NHL game I have played before except with an obserdily higher amount of penalties. You will definitely have to turn that setting down or off to even play a game. Definitely needs some updates, but over all it’s just slightly better than previous years if you turn down the penalties.

Great, fun game. Been out of the NHL games for a few years and this one had some welcomed upgrades. Still think this is the most fun sports sim out there. Big fan of the outdoor 3v3 modes. Only complaint would be some glitchiness and over-reliance on paid DLC. EA keep the NHL games going!

The gameplay is awesome. The player mechanics are so realistic. The graphics are almost identical to last years NHL but it’s really the gameplay that counts. One annoying problem that I encountered is creating a team in franchise mode. The game freezes out and restarts about 15 minutes in with creating a team.

It's a big step up from NHL 18. The controls feel much tighter and realistic. Gameplay from the NHL series has always been great and that was a given with NHL 19. Online is a larger component of the game, yes, and it finally does feel like EA's made more of an effort with 19, especially in this generation.

I skipped NHL 18 in hopes of feeling like there were more changes but it is yet another underdeveloped game by EA Sports. They new game modes have potential but they dropped the ball on execution. Also, game play in the standard game mode has been adjusted with so many penalties that it just isn't fun.

These are replacement Beats. The first pair broke. The cover to the volume switch fell off somewhere. I cannot find anyone to repair these, including Best Buy. So, unfortunately Dr Dre gets me for another hundred bucks. The Beats do work really well, I just did not expect them to fall apart.

The biggest complaint about this franchise is that they come out with the same game every year. That changed this year in which they added new game modes and helped fix the mechanics of the game. The game is a lot smoother and depending on what game mode you like to play, has more features and new additions
