Customers are saying

Customers love the clear, crisp 1080p video quality of the cameras, praising the ability to easily identify details even at a distance, and appreciating the effective night vision, even in complete darkness. However, some users note that battery life may be shorter than advertised and depends on usage and location. The system's performance is impacted by factors such as the area covered and the frequency of camera activation.

An established brand and a solid security option

Over the years I've had a number of different security options that each have their own benefits and drawbacks. And really there's no one size fits all even though many of the companies try to sell them that way. My issue with night owl in the past is that most options have required a hard wired camera and in many cases it's just not easy to add wiring to a house or building. Options from other companies already have wireless cameras so night owl having a good option in this arena only makes sense. Let's discuss setup. The system ships with 4 wireless cameras, they are WiFi but they only connect to the WiFi access point created by the base unit. The cameras themselves run on lithium 18650 batteries which is fine and good but you'll have to occasionally charge them. That being said, when I went to initially set this up, I had it in my mind that I'd charge them cameras for a bit before I went through the effort of setting it up and mounting them and all that. Well it ships with a USB cable to charge the cameras but no charging brick. I used a few i had around, but be forewarned, AS SOON AS you put the batteries in the cameras they enter a pairing mode. There's a completely unintelligible voice that screams at you that they are in pairing mode until you actually pair them to the base unit. It's one of the most annoying things I've run across in modern electronics. That said i did continue to let them charge even though the voice yelled at me for the next few hours until i had time to go through the setup for the base unit and pair the cameras to the base. Suffice to say, don't put the batteries in the cameras until you're ready to go through setup. As for the configuration, it's extremely straightforward, you pair the base to your phone over Bluetooth, setup an account, name the cameras and you're done. You don't need to hook it to a monitor unless you just want to or if you're going to set it up without Bluetooth. The video quality is great, the distance from the base unit is good. They are very sensitive to motion if you have that set up (that's the default setting). They can take up to 4 batteries to last as long as possible but the system ships with 2 batteries per camera. It states it can last up to 6 months on 2 batteries. I purchased 2 additional batteries per camera (lithium 18650 button top batteries) to give them more time. All in all it's a great system, the setup is really just an irritation at best but it's very smooth. I'd easily recommend this to anyone in the market.

Thank you for the review and sorry to hear of the experience you had with this system. The cameras can be up to 300 ft. from the Wi-Fi NVR with line of site. If you have obstacles/barriers between the cameras and Wi-Fi NVR then the signal strength will be reduced (more so depending on what type of barrier). Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance.

Im going to start by sating that I love Night Owl products and currently owned a Night Owl camera set prior to this one and loved every aspect of it so i was confident that the Night Owl - 10 Channel 4K Wi-Fi NVR Security System with 1TB Hard Drive and 4 Wire Free 1080p Cameras - White was going to be even more amazing than the older set i already had. The Night Owl - 10 Channel 4K Wi-Fi NVR Security System with 1TB Hard Drive and 4 Wire Free 1080p Cameras does not disappoint!! Unlike my previous set, this one is wireless making setup a complete breeze from our previous experience. Between my husband and I, we were able to get it set up quickly and start enjoging our new camera system. The cameras show clear as day during both daytime and nightime... this of course is my favorite fearure along with a wide view angle of the cameras. The app is easy to use and work showing you everything you need and giving you a clear view when youre away from home. I love the two way talk for many reasons... one being for package deliveries to my home, random guests that shoe up, or even my kids who love to talk through it for fun! The motion spot lights are a great added security for us since we do live in a very rural area and our only yard light is one thats up front. The motion spot light provides extra lights from any movement in our yard. The nightvision on this set is insanely clear and in any given circumstance i feel like it would do its justice if we were ever to experience a break in. Overall i love this Night Owl security set for its clarity, night vision, spot lights, and audio fearures. I highly reccomend Night Owl as a whole because their security systems have been protecting our home for the last 5 years!

Excellent Kit for Sentry - EZ to Setup

I have setup a lot of these battery powered systems and while they all share a common flaw of having to charge the battery if over-used, this kit actually offers something the others don't - free large (user managed) storage. This set comes with a 1TB DVR that is accessible from the Internet via app and web portal. The advantage to a completely wireless and battery powered kit is ease of install and you can be up and running in mere minutes depending on where you want your cameras but even the most difficult installation locations really should not take longer than an hour or so to install. However, as with about any wireless installation you jusrt don't have the 100% reliability that you get when wiring your cameras directly to your DVR. So you need to choose your kit wisely for your use-case. If you have a lot of walls and celiling structures then wireless may not be the best solution for you. The output image on these 1080p cameras looks really good and you can easily read license plates and other small details if needed. The night vision works very well and in my case a lot better than most of the other camera systems I've tested. The build quality is very good and this system should last you well into the future. I highly recommend this kit for home surveillance.

I've tried many different surveillance systems, from hard wired, with dvr, or cloud service, to now this wireless setup with batteries in the cameras themselves. This has got to be the easiest setup to date. Out of the box you have : - Four battery operated camera (wireless) with necessary mounting hardware and materials - Network Video Recorder with 1 terabyte of storage and 4K capable - Eight rechargeable batteries Max capacity holds 4 batteries but can operate with only two - Provided USB mouse - Miscellaneous cables and cords for necessary hookup We have the main house but then we have a separated garage that sets back down the driveway a ways. I wanted to put one of the cameras on the garage as well but was concerned it wouldn't reach signal wise due to it saying the limit was three-hundred feet. We also have a brick house with the NVR being about in the middle. ( I say all of this because we even have difficulties with wifi reaching throughout the inside of the house itself.. let alone out to the garage. To my surprise everything worked out and had no issues. The cameras have nice and clear imaging. I am curious as to how long the batteries charge will last depending on how often the cameras are triggered. So far so good though. Would recommend this setup to anyone looking for a simple and easy setup

For some time now, I've used a variety of streaming cameras to keep an eye on things at the house when I'm not around. And, while they've worked, each brand I've tried has it's drawbacks - sometimes there's a subscription fee, or they force you to store your video/route it through a dodgy server in a foreign country, or the hardware is terrible (or some combination of these). THIS set however, not only streamlines my camera setup into a single system but also solves ALL of those issues. First, the hardware is top notch. The cameras themselves are high quality units that are rated for outdoor use, easy to install (since they're wireless), seem to last a long time on battery (claimed up to 6 months and you can add up to two more batteries - to get to 4 total per camera - for even longer continuous runtimes between charges) and produce a GREAT picture even in low light. They are 1080p - the system supports cameras that are 4k and up to 10 total, but this package includes 4 1080p cameras which are fine for my needs - and have quality optics which makes all the difference in how the picture turns out. They also have a light and two way audio / a siren if you want to ward off would-be intruders. The installation really just consists of mounting them on the wall which is easily done with some anchors (if you're mounting into a surface that needs anchors to hold a heavy camera) and screws. You don't have to take the mount / screws out to charge the camera, the camera itself slides out of the body to charge with a simple release (as such, you'll want to put these in a place where a ladder is required to get to them so bad actors don't fiddle with them). The quality / innovation continues to the network receiver - note that the wireless connection is direct between the receiver and the cameras, it doesn't use your home wifi/home network. The receiver appears to be very high quality and contains a 1TB disk drive to store captured video (that's right - LOCAL storage so no dodgy servers) and the ability to pair to up to 10 wireless cameras including doorbell cameras (from Night Owl only) and 4K models. It does NOT appear that you can mix/match wireless and wired cameras with this setup which is fine with me. Setup and installation was easy - you can go through one of two paths, either an app based setup using a mobile device (which does require you to connect the receiver to the internet, but does NOT come with a subscription fee). That setup is MUCH easier but some may prefer to do everything locally - so for those folks you can also connect a monitor to the NVR and do the setup entirely locally. It's not hard per se to do that, but you might want a second person to help you so one person can watch the video feed and the other can aim the cameras (since unless you move the receiver/monitor around with you, you won't be able to see the feed from where you're aiming/mounting the camera and would have to go back and forth to make sure you have the view you want). Either way, the setup is fairly straightforward and it's easy to get going. The 1TB hard drive (guessing it's an older HDD type disk drive) has enough storage for LOTS of video, so you're good there. So if you're looking for an all in one kit to get started with higher end video security, this is a great way to go - it's not the cheapest, but sometimes (as in this case) you get what you pay for - a high quality setup with lots of features and functionality that is easy to install, easy to use, doesn't charge subscription fees and does respect your privacy. What more could you want? Highly recommend!

Having a secured home is extremely important nowadays. Many of my neighbors always ask why I have a security system for my home, but when something happens, they come running to me asking, "did you catch that." Soon after, they run and get themselves a system. Well, I recently got the chance to try out the Night Owl - 10 Channel 4 Camera Wire Free 1080p system. One thing that I really like about it is the true wire-free cameras. It doesn't get easier than that. The only drawback to a system like this is to make sure to mount the cameras somewhere where you can easily access them when it comes time to charge them. The claim is that they can go up to six months without charging. I can't really speak on the truthfulness of that claim, as I just received the system a few days ago. It's only been up and running a few days. But, I can say that the battery level is still near full. Keep in mind that there are various factors that will affect battery life. Just make sure not to cast a huge grid area so the cameras aren't constantly turning on, especially when mounting them in front of your home. I have my system setup to where it monitors the immediate surrounding area of my home, and not really too far into the street. One of the downsides to the Night Owl - 10 Channel 4 Camera Wire Free 1080p system is that it only comes with two batteries per camera. The cameras are setup to run on two batteries, but you can install up to a maximum of four batteries per camera. Night Owl, why not just throw in the other eight batteries and make it a complete kit!?! As for the setup of the system, you don't even need a tv/monitor to set this system up. You can have this up and running just through the use of your phone. All you have to do is download the app, follow a few simple directions, and you will be up and running in a matter of minutes. The other drawback is the archaic 1080p resolution. Had this been a 4k camera system, I would have given it five stars just off of that itself. BUT the NVR is 4k capable. You just have to purchase the 4k cameras separately, which would defeat the purpose of going with this kit in the first place. This is why I have this as a backup system in my home. I am also running a 4k, wired, camera system. This way, I don't have to worry about charging the cameras, and can have 24/7 recording without worrying about anything else. The primary use for the Night Owl - 10 Channel 4 Camera Wire Free 1080p system is for my driveway, garage, and immediate surrounding areas of my home. Aside from those minor setbacks, the Night Owl - 10 Channel 4 Camera Wire Free 1080p system is a great starter pack.

Over the past few years I've had quite the positive experience with Night Owl products - let me start this review off with saying that this product is a continuation of that experience! Something I really like about their products is that most (not all, but most) products are at least partially compatible with their successors. In this case, I was about to integrate 4 wireless cameras I had from a previous Night Owl setup to work with this DVR, giving me a total of 8 cameras. The cameras are always crisp and clear, with the exception of when I fire up a microwave that is anywhere near a camera. In that case, I get a NO SIGNAL notification during the time that the microwave runs, but it promptly returns once it's done running. Night vision is clear enough to see (estimated) 30-40 feet, which is to say that if someone approaches our house from any angle, we will see them and well enough to identify them to the police or anyone else who needs to know about the incident. Night Owl makes great products - this is a step forward while maintaining compatibility with some of my previous accessories - great item to have!

Easy to setup wire-free security camera system

This is the second Night Owl camera system that I have reviewed. On the first system I reviewed a few years ago, I made the mistake of not believing that the Night Owl bluetooth setup via their mobile app would be as easy as their instructions claimed. On this new Wire-free NVR system, I followed their recommendation and used the Night Owl Protect app and bluetooth to set up the NVR and it was incredibly simple to get things going. I also want to draw attention to how easy the bluetooth capability makes using even the TV interface for the NVR. You can use the app to unlock the NVR interface so you never need to type in a password into that interface, which has been a hassle on every other home camera system I've ever used. This system is intended to be completely wire free and includes 4 1080p cameras which use standard 18650 cells for their batteries. The kit comes with 8 batteries to power the 4 cameras. Each camera can accept two additional cells for extended run time, and each camera also has a USB-C port for charging the batteries. I love the use of standard 18650 batteries as this means you can easily charge an extra pair of batteries outside the camera to forego having to charge on the camera itself. The cameras were super easy to pair to the NVR as they immediately go into pairing mode when you put the batteries in them, and they stay there for plenty of time for you to get your phone out and open the app to pair them to the NVR. The system supports person, face, and vehicle detection and each of these seem to work pretty well in my testing. I was a little disappointed in the system at first based on the quality of the picture on my TV screen - the "Live View" quality of the camera feeds on either the TV or on my phone was heavily compressed with lots of blocky artifacts. However, I soon discovered that the actual quality of recorded events is much higher than the live view quality and perfectly fine for a 1080p camera. I'm pretty intrigued about how the AC powered 4K cameras look and may end up adding some of those to the system in the future. The range on the system was perfectly fine, as well. The NVR comes with two very large antennas to facilitate this. I didn't have any problems getting a signal from a camera on the corner of my 1700 sq ft home with the NVR in the middle of the house. I'd recommend this camera system to anyone who wants an extremely easy to install wireless camera system. Night Owl seems to take privacy very seriously unlike some of the "cloud" camera companies. Definitely worth checking them out.

Recently there have been a rash of break-ins in our area due to a certain YouTube video that details how to steal Hyundai and Kia cars with some kind of USB C cable. Unfortunately a few of my neighbors fell victim to this new form of a cyber attack by some teenage kids from the St. Louis area. While I did not have one of these cameras pointed at the parking area of our complex I did have one pointed at our patio. So while the cameras did not catch the events as they occurred or even one of the perpetrators as they walked by it did pick up the audio of them breaking into the vehicles, taking a rotary tool to the steering column and attempting to make off with the vehicle. I was able to supply the surveillance video to my neighbor and the police in order to help pin down the timeline of the events. So it even without having the cameras in the needed places it did help out. I now have a camera pointed at our parking lot including at the dumpster because we have people that illegally dump their trash into our dumpster all the time. The quality is crystal clear at 1080P and the wireless connection reaches an insanely long distance since I now have the NVR mounted to a wall in our living room and about 5ft above the ground. I absolutely LOVE the fact that these cameras take the 18650 button top style batteries! It comes with enough for 2 batteries in each camera and I'll be purchasing more so that I can have 4 batteries in each camera! The camera that is pointed towards the parking lot and dumpster sees tons of traffic and has 4 batteries in it currently which have been in it for a week now and the battery is still showing as 100% with it recording no less than 20-30 events every single day. I am beyond impressed with this system! I absolutely love it! I think I found my new go to system and will be replacing most of the cameras and systems we already had with more cameras for this system!

Unboxing: The system comes in a box with a handle which was nice. Opening the box everything was organized in its own box. Each camera was in its own box. Directions where located on top of all boxes for easy access. Setup: The instructions give you two options via the app or connecting a HDMI cable which was provided to a monitor. The first time I set this unit up I used the mobile app. The mobile app on android is rated pretty low so I was concerned about set up due to the rating and reviews. Once I downloaded the app it walked me through setting up a profile and started the setup process via Bluetooth. This part went smooth. It detected the DVR and set it up with no issue. Cameras where also detected with no issue once a battery was installed. When you install one battery the camera turns on and automatically goes into pairing mode. Once set up mounting was easy. You are able to remove the mounting base from the camera for easy access. The box contains mounting anchors and screws. There are no extras so make sure you get the anchors right the first time. After I set up all the cameras I was able to view them via the app no issues. I tried accessing the cameras on and off my wifi network. On network it was quick to access the cameras off network it was much slower which makes sense. It does appear the app can tell if it is on the same network as the DVR and access via IP instead of always going through the cloud. I also set this unit up via the HDMI connection without the mobile app and that was much more complex to set up. It is recommended to set it up via the app. Experience: Initial set up was fairly simple if you used the app but if you want to manually be prepared for a long process. While the DVR seems solid with a HDMI connection, USB connections for keyboard and mouse. The mouse was included. The cameras are another story. While the picture is good for 1080p these cameras feel light and cheap. There is a speaker on the camera that is for two-way communication that is terrible. It is also very loud and distorted. During setup it was crazy loud letting know it is pairing. Also if you place these in alert mode the light comes on and repeats smile you are on camera super loud and distorted over and over until it clears the alert. Another issue I had was getting the PC application to work. I was able to install and login with no issues. I was able to see the DVR unit but it stated it was offline so I could not access anything. I tried reinstalling and updating my PC still showed offline. But when I went to my phone application it was working as intended. I did connect a HDMI to the DVR unit and that worked as expected showing all cameras but it was not set to auto live stream I had to start each camera. Pros: Set up at least on the mobile application was simple Picture on the cameras was pretty good for wireless 1080p Everything was included in the box for setup and management. Cons: Unable to get PC application to work – This was a deal breaker for me. The casing feels cheap and need to be switched to something better. I don’t believe it would stand up to the elements very well. Speaker was distorted and for me wouldn’t be needed.
