Less lag time than an arlo or ring system. Setup wasn't difficult. I've had both and the time delay was about 10 seconds as I was using them as baby monitors. This system is about 2 second lag time. I've had them on constantly for a month now. It has froze once. Compared to the other systems which kick you out of the program or times you out, eventhough you're paying a subscription fee. The only fee you pay is for the recording system itself. Video recording quality is great night and day mode. You can turn off the motion light, it is in the settings. Wireless video, only have to hook up power. Have it hooked up to computer monitor for constant view of cameras and login on app to hear sound as we are using this as a baby monitor.

This is Nightowls newest system. I have an older NO system at my AZ house that has worked flawlessly for 5 years so I gave this a try. The software for this is still being developed and has some bugs but it does work and the quality is good. The cameras being ac powered means you will not have batteries that fail or need replacing ( my main reason to avoid most other systems). Needing AC does limit placement some and the power blocks for the do not appear to be outdoor compliant, so you will need to keep them in covered outlet boxes. Once installed it seems to work well. I will say that the Apple software is pretty useless . My Ipad was unable to see alerts or configure the system at all, even after I set it up on android as working. However My Android tablet and phone work well. The setup document that comes in the box is flat out wrong and using your tablet or phone you will NOT be able to pair the cameras with the system. I tried to follow it for nearly two hours and constantly failed to achieve a working system. I installed and repaired electronics for 40+ years and am quite computer literate. The document leads you down the wrong path. To correctly set it up you MUST use the connection to a local monitor via hdmi, the mouse provided, and then pair the cameras using that interface. The pairing instructions say to have the cameras within 8 feet of the NVR and on the same power supply. Using the video out and mouse on the nvr to configure it works. Trying to do that with your tablet/phone fails to pair the cameras (after you establish your account). I added one extra camera to my system and it does allow up to ten cameras. That would probably be overload for the 1 tb drive. The alerts and other setup areas are still in developement so they are a bit inconsistent. The software should get better over time. I downgrade a star for the poor instructions and software bugs still being worked out. recommended IF you are using android. Avoid for now if IOS user.

Thank you for taking the time to review your product. We appreciate the time you put into this and the feedback you provided. The app functions the same on both iOS and Android Smart Devices, so that is something we would need to have our technical support team troubleshoot with you. Please visit support.nightowlsp.com, review your products support documentation and how to videos, and then click Contact Us if you need further assistance. Additionally, the first steps in the Quick Setup Guide state that a TV or Monitor with a min. resolution of 1080p is required for initial setup and we walk you through connecting the Wi-Fi NVR to the monitor to access the Startup Wizard. Again, we thank you for the review and look forward to hearing from you should you need any additional assistance with the product.

Best priced option at the time when I didn’t have time for getting one shipped. Fairly simple to start up. Software is basic and ok. Can’t seem to find any way to adjust sensitivity for notifications. When someone’s in the cameras it just keeps notifying over and over and over and over. Luckily there’s no bells or whistles going off, it’s just a banner that comes across the phone. I like that you can talk to someone and hear with the camera. Lights come on if they are needed when you activate the cameras. Fairly good night vision. Don’t regret the purchase.

This is my 2nd security system. I had a cheap one before and the monitor quit after a couple of years. This camera system is awesome. Picture quality is very clear. Easy to set up and run. I am able to see my cameras on my phone from anywhere. I love my new security cameras. I am going to purchase 2 extra cameras to make this a really awesome setup. Thanks Night Owl for a great product.

Works great and the option to add more cameras. I can view on my screen live or replay from the 1 tig hard drive. Night vision for 24 hour security. Night Owl is a well known trusted brand so I know I bought quality hardware. I found a better price at a local competitor but Best Buy price match meant I could purchase from Best Buy with outstanding savings.

The hardware is good but the software makes this difficult to use for home security. 1. detection is not dialed in - it detects "human face" with any variation in lighting. I have to shut off "motion" because it detects smallest insect outdoors. I get way too may notifications and had to shut off this feature - really bad detection system 2. While you can manually shut off or turn on spotlight, the next movement turns it right back on. There is NO setting to keep spotlight off. My front porch looks like a rave - see #1 3. delay on video recording events. Misses me walking out to get package, but starts recording when I walk back inside with my back turned. Every "event" video looks like this. If there is a continuous record I can't find it. 4. the phone app really really makes this system not worth price. they have "fixed" some issues recently, but the app is not user friendly and does not control cameras as much as I want it to. the best use for this system is if you have someone sitting in front of monitor in "live view" like a security officer - that looks good. I bought this system because I wanted plug in cameras (not battery powered) with wifi reception. Even the plug in is not thought out - it has an oval power supply connection that does not fit in exterior outlet boxes - too wide at the plug in. Overall really disappointing.

Hi Gaia. Thank you for reaching out. We wanted to respond to your review and get you some troubleshooting assistance at your convenience. 1) There are settings that can be adjusted within the Wi-Fi NVR menu from a TV such as sensitivity settings, to reduce the number of events/notifications for select cameras. 2) The spotlight can be manually disabled via the app (will turn on or off - then will switch next time an event is detected) or you can disable the spotlight within the Wi-Fi NVR menu from a TV. 3) Yes, you can switch from motion record to 24/7 record. Also, you can adjust the Wi-Fi channel if you are experiencing a delay, as there may be too much traffic on that channel already within your home. 4) The app is not intended to control all elements of the system. Rather is it meant to enable customers to live view and receive notifications when an event occurs as well as playback recordings remotely. Those are the main reason for the app, though several other features can be adjusted within it. We provide the full product manual free of charge on our support site as well as numerous how to videos and articles to assist. If you need further assistance, you can click Contact Us to speak with a technician. Thank you! https://support.nightowlsp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057114614

The system was very easy to set up. Literally, all I had to do was plug in the DVR, mount the cameras and plug them up, and they paired themselves to the unit. Until picture is of good quality. The only problem I have is there is feedback when I try to talk thru the cameras on the mobile app

Setup was super easy. The app is good and came in handy with placing the cameras. There is a 20-30 second lag with live view on the app. Wider view than I expected. Other than the system logging me out even though I have it set on manual log out, I have no complaints.

It's very easy to set up . But it sure doesn't recieve the wireless signal like I thought it would . My wi-fi is only 4ft from the reciever and the cameras are 25, 40, and 60 feet from the unit. It doesnt seem to pick up the signal very good.

Was pleasantly surprised of the overall quality, especially the picture quality. Both color and the clear black & white night vision. I would suggest only to install it yourself if you are savvy with electronics, or if you have a lot of time to devote to the installation. The physical equipment installation would have been a snap for me. But I hired a pro who just installs camera systems everyday and I was surprised how long it took him to configure everything. I expect we will be happy with it for the long hall.
