The cameras on this are much better than some that I've seen. However the software for it looks like it was written by a college student who wasn't sure what they were doing. I can get it connected to one phone and to my desktop and that is it. I am terribly disappointed in this product but I wanted an affordable way to monitor my yard.

I regret purchasing this night owl camera system! I spent alot of money buying this 4 camera set, purchased an additional four cameras, wiring, labor to install around my house and to my detached workshop which had to be installed underground. I expected this system to work long term. I spent two hours on hold for technical support and they didn't help me fix my camera system. I spent another hour and a half waiting for the chat tech support and they disconnected from me while I was doing what they asked me to do.....and now I need to start over in the que! I will never buy Night owl products again! Thousands of dollars wasted!!!!!

I saw all the reviews and there were a lot that were upset about the Customer Service. I figured I am pretty tech savvy and everyone like the product so I went for it. I have to say this was pretty easy to install and set up. But like a couple of people mentioned...the cables provided for the cameras is WAY TOO THIN to do anyone good. Manufacturer should really take a second look at that, even if you bump the price up $10 dollars it would be worth it. I was pulling these through my wall, and one got snagged and even with pulling back and forth and trying to be careful...the wires inside pulled apart and I lost the integrity of the wiring. I had to use another of my wires provided and now will have to order more.
For those of us that pull wires all day long and almost every day, I can certainly say they went very cheap on the wires. I know this is to make it affordable for consumers, but this is something I would expect on a $200 system. I expected a little more for $350.
Other than this it was very good. The only other issue I had and make sure you check, if you have an existing system set up, you probably cannot use your existing cables if they do not have the power plug at the end. If you spliced your power into a box, then you are in trouble. You can continue to use the existing cameras with this DVR, but you cannot use your Night Owl cameras unless you use their power cable, this is why I had to run 3 new wires...and stretched one.
Other than that, this is a good product...I called customer support for the issue with the existing cables, the tech was AWESOME...got right to the point and made it clear. I only had to wait on the pone for 10 minutes and I was happy with the service, very nice guy.
Get the product if you want something easy to set up....and the mobile was seriously a scan of the QR code onscreen and it set itself up...very nice.

I was looking for an old school security system that didn't require Internet for it to work...well, this one needed Internet and I returned it. I eventually went to harbor freight and found exactly was I was looking for with live feeds and no internet required.

The system only needs to be connected to a modem/router if you wish to view it remotely on a PC/MAC or a smart device. In order to remotely view your system, you must physically connect an Ethernet cable from your modem/router to the DVR. If you do not want remote viewing, you can simply connect the system to a TV or computer monitor to view live video feed and recordings. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

After getting home the other day, my neighbor approached me saying that he seen someone looking through our backyard windows at about 9 in the morning and our other neighbors dog began barking, which made the person leave. We soon found out that the back windows were also slightly opened. That evening I went out looking for a system, and this is the one I bought. It works perfectly. Everything was extremely easy to set up...literally plug and play. I have no issues with the picture which is very clear by the way and I'm honestly getting ready to purchase 4 more cameras to complete the setup I have now! I haven't read most of the reviews I've seen, but skimming through them I've noticed people talking about the app. Well, that works perfectly too. I get notified every time there is motion and then plays the recorded video back to me right on the phone. Simple...
I'm not a good reviewer...but honestly if your looking for a good system without spending a lot of money...this is a great starter.

I had been in the market for cameras for my house for a while. I wanted to get a "real" system, that did not rely on the cloud for storage and could store video locally. This system was the answer.
I have purchased 4 additional cameras, and installation is very straight forward. Yes, these are all hardwired, but that is why I bought this system. I had first tried a battery power wireless system, but it did not work how I would have hoped. With hardwired, you have constant power, and can record 24/7.
Yes, this means you have to run wires from the cameras to the dvr. You can do this DIY (as I did) or night owl included an installer card that allows you to get professional installation. Most electricians will also run them for you as well.
The night vision is very good for a bullet camera. it is not perfect, but you can see fairly clearly. One of my cameras is two stories up, but at night you can still see my whole back yard.
Image quality is good, and the DVR system is pretty easy to use. Getting the system to stream over the internet to your phone takes some networking know how, as you have to enable port forwarding and so fourth. It was very easy for me, but Im a tech geek so it was straight forward. The company does have 24/7 tech support who can help you through it as well.
I have my cameras set up to record 24/7, and tag motion events. The motion capture is great, it never misses anything, and you can "draw" on the screen areas you want to, and not want to, capture motion for each camera.
With 8 cameras, I can get about 7-9 days of continuous recording before it writes over itself. Which is plenty for me.

Purchased this system for my husband for Christmas - read all the reviews and did my research beforehand to make sure it was a good one. The pros - the system itself was easy to set up (we simply hooked up a camera w/out mounting it to make sure it would do what we needed it to), the camera had great range and the image on screen was excellent. The bad - the mobile access (which was the entire reason I chose this system) won't work. We had nothing but problems connecting to the mobile devices and repeat password errors. Looking at the IOS app ratings it appears this is a known issue and has been for a LONG time. Wish I would have thought to research that part first. Since it won't do what we need it to, the whole system is going back.

I would love to say nice things about the Night Owl security cameras, but I'm unable to because we have never been able to see any images on the cameras. Our electrician installed the cameras and the software, but when we tried to view the cameras on the pc, only a blank screen shows up. I'm very disappointed in them.
