Love this camera

Purchasing some 120 foot cables from Best Buy are recommended if you need some more distance from the base unit. I dug a trench and laid in some plastic conduit. Fishing the wires through was a snap with some wire lubricant. Just follow the included instructions and you will have no problems.

Overheats and shuts down

Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product two years ago and had this installed on the wall, it was good for the firts two or three months but after that it started to make some weird noise so I have to move it from the wall and set it somewhere else. Now it overheats and then it just shuts down.

Poor Nightvision

We've had people trying to break into our vehicles just 5 foot from the camera and we couldn't make out a single thing to catch them or turn it over to police. The whole point in getting them was for night time, but they are really grainy and snowy looking at night. Night Owl has yet to fix the problem.

Great beginner's Surveillance System

There's 2 disadvantages, the IR doesn't allow to see license plates on vehicles and only 2mp so when zooming in, the videos and pictures are blurry, didn't know this when I bought it.

Posted .Thank you for the review. Often times increasing the amount of lighting in the area the camera is installed will enhance the Night Vision. Though, license plates can be hard to detect depending on the installation location of the cameras, distance of the vehicle and a few other factors. User friendly

Quits working after a year! Be Aware!

I don't like the menu and over the complicated user interface. We have replaced two cameras because the screen would only show black and white. It's like the cameras don't recognize that it is daytime. After owning this system for a year the cameras only show a black screen. They are working and I can hear it processing but the picture is black. Don't waste your time with NightOwl security cameras I'm warning you now. You will later regret the decision of choosing this manufacturer. Poor product support helps seal the deal. Good luck! My next purchase will be a Samsung.
