The optical engineering on this lens is clearly based on the f2.8E which came out for Nikon DSLR a few years ago. That was the first really beautiful Nikon lens I owned, and I'm happy to level up to this version with the improvements and focus-tracking capabilities of the mirrorless format. Close focus capability of about a meter at full zoom is useful. I like to run the f-stop wide open with a fast shutter speed for wildlife, sports, or pets... just put on a polarizer in full sun to cut a little light. I mean it... this lens is gorgeous and so well built. It's not cheap but it's attainable for anyone serious, and no professional photographer with a bag full of primes is too good for it.

Tack sharp telephoto lens that blows everything else out of the water, even with the 2x teleconverter! You need this with you, even though it is a bit of a heavy beast...

I’ve had both third party and native 70-200s in the past with the f mounts. The z mount 70-200 is the best one. So far I’ve used this lens with and without the 1.4tc, auto focus with the tc is still quick. I’ve used this on the Z9 body. If you use a 70-200 can’t go wrong with this lens

Simply incredible. Over the years I have owned the Nikon 80-200 AFD, the 70-200 VRI (twice), the F4 VR, as well as Canon's 70-200 F4 IS and F2.8 IS... this lens is better than all of them. Attaching to the camera was like going from regular definition to 8k. Focus speed is incredible. My first outing was a nighttime soccer game and created the sharpest images I have ever gotten. If I had one gripe; I wish the focus to infinity switch was further up front. But it is a minor issue with an otherwise perfect lens.

Outstanding Quality with excellent in lens stabilization. Be prepared for the weight common to such professional lens. Consider adding a teleconverter.

Very comparable to the 70-200 2.8E FL I just sold to purchase this lens. The big difference on Z cameras (Z9) is how consistant the lens is and how incredibly stable the VR is. It locks and visually looks like its on a tripod. As far as actual stops of VR effectiveness.... I don't see a huge difference. For video, the new VR system is other worldy. There is a little bit of wiggle at the lens mount, but that was present in both copies I tried -that is my only complaint.

This is an awesome lens, and at my time of purchase was the only telephoto zoom that is fully compatible with the Z-series 2x teleconverter, which brings the focal length up to 400mm.
F2.8 is fast for a zoom lens, a nice feature for those of us who shoot in low light. The near range is impressive too, with an ability to focus down to about 3 feet, even at 400mm zoom.
Overall, this is a very versatile and high-performing lens, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to a Nikon Z camera owner!

Probably the most versatile lens I’ve ever owned. Lanscape, headshots, family shots. It really does it all so so well. So glad i didnt go with the crowd and switch to Sony. You just cannot beat Nikon glass.

I can't imagine photographing a wedding ceremony or a surprise proposal without this lens. As a full-time wedding photographer, a 70-200 is an essential lens for me, and this one is the best we've ever owned.

I am new to photography but jumped in with both feet. I have the Z7. I needed more reach for a high school graduation and had been considering this lens for a while but couldn’t justify its expense until now. The thought of not getting great photos of the graduation was the only motivation I needed to make the purchase. I am very glad I did. I will now use it for the many travels that we do and capture even more memories with the FANTASTIC lens.

The images this lens produces are exceptional. The images are sharp and crisp. The auto focus comes in handy when wanting to toggle between auto and manual focus. User friendly with tons of other selections and options.
