The Nikon - AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Zoom Lens is a kit lens that came with the Nikon D7100 that I purchased. It is a great starter lens that takes very nice photographs. After using this lens for a while I found myself wanting more reach out of a lens and bought the 18-200mm lens as a sort of do it all general purpose/travel lens. One thing I find better about the 18-140mm lens however is the ability to do more macro style photos as you can get as close as about 1 ½ feet from your subject and zoom in from there. This lens is of course smaller and lighter as well which might be of significance if you want to travel "light". This lens takes great pictures in most situations but it is not a "fast" lens so you will not get the best images in low light if you have to really crank up your ISO. This is a sturdy, affordable lens with a metal mount and is great for shooting family events and works well as a travel lens. You will get a good range of focal lengths and great picture quality in a relatively small and lightweight package. Attached are a couple of images taken in a local park at dusk. Shadows have been adjusted but no adjustments have been made to the color.

I bought this lens together with a Nikon D7100 after reading a lot of reviews online. It was an excellent choice! The lens is perfectly balanced on the D7100 and very sharp corner to corner. Some reviews complained about distortion but also mentioned that Nikon had no upgraded firmware to adjust the distortion in the camera. They now have..it is L 2.005 for Nikon D1000 ( you first have to upgrade the cameras firmware to version 1.002). This firmware works absolutely great..no barrel distortion can be noticed on wide angle and no pincushion on the tele side. The zoom is equal to 28-210 mm on a full frame camera which is more than enough for my purpose. The sharpness is more than adequate for an experienced amateur like me. Most people never print pictures more than poster size and the sharpness is absolutely fantastic. I strongly recommend this lens!

I purchased this lens to replace the Nikon 18-105 lens I had on my Nikon D7100. I like this lens much better than the 18-105. The lens construction seems good, and it has a metal lens mount (much better than the cheap plastic mount on the 18-105). The lens has a nice feel to it, it's not too heavy, the zoom ring is slightly firm but smooth, and the Vibration Reduction works well. The autofocus speed is good. This lens produces nice sharp images on my D7100. Its zoom range is great as an all day walk around lens (this lens stays on my camera 95% of the time, rarely when I need a longer focal length will I put on my 55-300 lens). Initially I was hesitant to purchase this lens because of so many bad reviews on other sites, but now that I own it, I'm glad I purchased it. Sure, it's not a "fast" lens in terms of f stop, but consider adding maybe a 35mm or 50mm prime lens for low light shooting and your good to go. In my opinion, if your looking for one lens you can put on your camera and walk around and shoot with all day long, this is it! Personally, I'm glad I spent the money to upgrade to this lens and retire my old 18-105...the 18-140 is better in my opinion (yeah, I'm sure others will disagree on that!). Overall, I'm happy with my 18-140 lens and enjoying my photography.

This is the kit lens that was offered with the D7100 at the time I purchased it from Best Buy. I looked at the prices on the Nikon website to compare and Best Buy was in line with Nikon pricing. I got a great deal when I purchased my camera and got this lens for almost nothing. It doesn't get any better than that as the lenses hold their value better than the camera bodies do. This is a great lens that produces great looking images but I already find myself wanting more zoom in some situations. I also agree with the other reviewers who have said it is kind of slow. I will definitely be looking at faster lenses when I am ready to branch out and purchase additional lenses. I want to use this one for a while so I can be sure where I want to go from here.

Bought this lens because I wanted a lens that had a further reach than the standard AF-P Nikkor DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens that came with my Nikon D5600. The 18-55mm kit lens is very good starter lens that allowed me to take really nice pictures at family gatherings. However, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR not only covers the same focal length range as the kit lens that came with the camera, but it provides an additional 85mm of focal length that allows you to zoom in closer to your subject. This capability allowed me to get really close in and take excellent close up shots at our nephew's wedding as well as wide shots for taking group photos. Overall, I really like this lens.

    Affordable and Reliable

Released around September 2013, this is one of the best, affordable lens for APS-C Nikon cameras. Pictures are clear and sharp, and the quality is excellent. Build construction is solid though it will add a reasonable amount of weight to the front of your camera (the lens weighs 1.08 lbs or about half a kilogram). Focus is quick and accurate, along with the being extremely quiet. I would highly recommend this lens for the majority of shooting situations a photographer may encounter.

I bought this to give me greater flexibility in taking photos at family events and on trips, etc., because it is nearly impossible to capture what you want most of the time with just prime lenses when you have kids running around all directions. This lens allows me to move myself around less and zoom in more to capture exactly what I want. I know it's not the fanciest or most expensive, but I have been very pleased with the results so far after using with my now ancient D90 it to photograph an easter egg hunt and a family trip to the beach.

I am a beginning photographer who just purchased a Nikon D7200. After much research online, many different photography experts suggested this lens as a must have for getting started. At first, I purchased a Nikon kit lens, but after seeing so many experts recommending this lens, I decided to pay more and get something that I'll be happy with in the long run. I am just beginning to learn how to take good photos using the camera and lens. So far, I am very happy with the results. I feel that this is the right lens for my needs long term.

I love this lens. I makes me feel like I'm a pro just by having it on my camera. Major upgrade from my 18-55mm zoom. It works great on my D200, and makes the images on my LCD screen a lot more sharper. I give it a four star because it did not come with a filter. But not having the lens creep syndrome is the best thing about this lens. It's light too, so you can carry it in your hands while waiting for the perfect moment to snap the shutter. My advice to all the working amateurs, get this lens. It will make your pictures look great.

I bought this lens separately to pair with a Nikon D7500 camera body (my Best Buy store was out of the "kit" version of that camera which came with this lens) and I have been very happy with the results. It provides excellent image quality over a wide range of focal lengths and has very good, fast auto-focus and VR functions. I'll get a truly telephoto lens next for the kids' sports, but this is a great go-to, multipurpose lens; perfect if you can only carry one with you say, on a hiking trip.

Not as sharp as the 18-105

I got this lens with the D7200; I already had a D7000 with the 18-105 lens. I did a comparison using a tripod and manual focus with each lens on the D7200. The 18-105 had far better resolution when comparing 6000x4000 images at 100%. You may not be able to tell it when you "fit-to-screen", but not having that detail is an important quality I need. The 18-140 is the top image and the bottom is the 18-105. Even though I had to crop tighter on the 18-105 to get the same frame as the 18-140, it still had better sharpness.

This is a great all purpose lens for Nikon DSLR's. The versatility of the lens prevents the need for frequent lens changes. The lens can be used for all the usual family event pictures as well as for relative close ups of nature and pets. In addition the lens offers flexibility in framing distant landscapes to include the most desirable components. All these features in one lens increases the potential that you have the optimal lens on the camera when the perfect picture presents itself.

While on vacation in NM, I got this lens as a replacement for my trusty 18-200mm that I dropped on some rocks. I really didn't have a lot of choices and, in fact, had to make a 250 mile detour to the nearest store, a Best Buy, just to be able to get any lens. Although one of Nikon's kit lenses, I am enjoying it. It seems sharper and is certainly a little lighter than my previous lens; I don't even miss the extended zoom range of my 200mm.

Originally got this with the Nikon D7500, but while I was taking awhile to get used to my new camera I had used this with my D3500 and I have to say it did help me get some nicer pictures on top of it havingthe perfect amount of zoom for everyday photography. It lets you go from the usual close distance to a decent zoom to get everything you try to snap at.

With my previous camera I had an 18-55 and 55 - 200. I seemed to have to change my lens regularly to get the variety of shots I wanted. This lens gives me the ability to take just one lens and get almost any shot I want. It lets just enough light in to be able to use it indoors at high ISO without the flash and still be able to stop action. The 18 - 300 would be even more flexible, but it is 2x the cost. I really like this lens.

I bought this as a bundle with the D7200. It is a pretty capable zoom lens, it has vibration reduction, auto-focus, and most importantly it delivers sharp pictures! I haven't fully explored the capabilities of this lens, but I did look up reviews online to see how it compares to lens of a similar quality, and Nikon lenses in general rate very highly. You can't go wrong especially if you buy it as a kit.

Bought this to replace a lense that was dropped and broken that was on a D80:( Great opportunity to upgrade in the meantime since the other one didn't have VR. You can tell the difference in quality of pictures when shooting pictures thru a Nikon compared to something else. Adding the VR we didn't have before just makes it that much better. Great all around lense with a bit wider view for the closer ups as well.

definitely buy this lens as apposed to buying the 18-55 and 55-200 f4 in a kit. this one has a little less zoom but takes better pictures than the 55-200 and you do not have to have a second lens with you at all times plus you dont have to constantly switch the lens. the lens is definitely worth the price but if you can afford to spend more take the next step up.

I purchased this lens before my trip to Israel. I knew I would possibly not have enough time to change lenses during some quick tours and did not want to miss a photo opportunity. I love this lens. My traveling partners also love my new lens. Worth every penny. Great even for beginners like myself.

I bought my 18-140mm lens to get good close up action shots of my kids while shooting them from poolside or soccer side line when they are within 10-20 feet of me because my longer lense doesn't allow for shots taken that close. now I have a lens that I can use to capture team huddles up close and action that occurs just a few feet in front of me. Perfect for video live view
