While somewhat heavy, this lens makes up for it in the wide range of usefulness. It is no longer necessary to choose between the two lenses that came with my Nikon 7100.

Excellent lens, I had quite a few reservations based on reviews regarding the weight of the lens, the resolution at high focal lengths, vignetting at low focal lengths etc. etc. . Having used it for over a month now I am very pleased that I bought this lens inspite of some of the negative reviews. Yes, it is ofcourse noticeably heavier than the Nikkor 18-200 5.6 but in all other respects it is an excellent general purpose everyday zoom lens. Comparisons between the Nikkor 18-200 and Nikkor 18-300 of the same images, at the same focal lengths, ISO settings and P, S, A modes at the same speed and aperture settings are indistinguishable. EXCELLENT lens.

This is a great lens! My biggest complaint about my DSLR was that the two lenses I had were at very awkward ranges for me. The 18-55 lens was just a little too short and the 55-200 was just a little too long. I was always needing to switch lenses in the middle of taking pictures, which became too cumbersome, so I found myself not using my camera as much as I wanted. Then I found this lens and I could not be happier! Also, with an 18-300 mm range it is able to go even further than the standard telephoto. This is a very large and heavy lens due to its range though. I quickly upgraded my strap to a holster style (for $8) because the weight was too much to hang around my neck. Other than that, I'm in heaven! I can get all of the great close up shots and the immediately zoom out to get a great panoramic shot without stopping to fumble with lenses. If you are looking for a lens with great versatility and like to switch from large landscape shots to close up shots in one session, this is the lens to get! The picture quality is great too. The zoom was a little stiff right out of the box, but after using it a couple times, it has loosened up fine. I wish I had bought this sooner!

I purchased this lens to use with my d7100. I have an 18-200mm which I use on my d80 but when I upgraded to the d7100 I also wanted the extra reach of the 18-300mm 3.5-5.6. I take mostly aerial and landscape shots and this lens is very versatile which allows me to shoot without the need to change lenses.

Excellent for my use as general field lens. Too heavy for an everyday lens, but if you are hiking it keeps you from changing lenses unless you need to do macro work. I does focus fairly close, so larger objects do well if you need a closeup, otherwise macro is about the only time you have to change lenses. Some worries about getting banged up, but a chest band takes care of that. I am a pretty big guy so the size does not bother me, but someone under six feet and a light weight, might think it is too heavy to drag around all day. A good buy for me. It was on sale. That never hurts.

I have this lens attached to a D5000. I purchased this lens as an all-in-one replacement for my 18-55 kit lens and my 55-200 VR Lens. Due to the size of this lens, it will be heavier. I use a Blackwater cross body strap with my DSLR, so the extra weight is on my shoulder instead of my neck, so I don't notice the extra weight. Images are very clear and sharp. If you are looking for a lens with lots of focal length for a walk about lens, this is the one for you.

The Nikon - AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Standard Zoom Lens is a heavy DX lens that is really awesome in its range 18-300mm (27 - 450 equiv.). It has performed flawlessly for me in both normal and low light conditions - focusing fast and accurately. This lens was recommended to me by the sales people at the BB on Michigan Ave. in Chicago.

The DX-format Nikkor 18-300mm is a superb upgrade from the earlier 18-55mm and 55-200mm kit lenses I had from my D3100 camera. Images are much better on this lens. And the convenience of not having to change out different lenses makes this one a great walkaround/tourist lens. Its a lil bit heavier than the 55-200mm, but its understandable: the 18-300mm is longer and the mounts are all metal. It oozes quality. I love it.

I love not having to change lenses to go from a wide angle shot to one needing a telephoto. The 18mm gives me an extremely wide angle. I use it for landscapes or for getting the "whole picture" at sporting events. The 300 mm telephoto zooms in to capture incredible details of things at a distance. I love taking pictures of birds, flowers, creatures, sporting events and grandchildren. I can stand four feet away from a flower, zoom in, and get a shot that looks like it was taken with a macro lens. The vibration reduction helps to give me a sharp picture; allowing me to take photos without the use of a tripod in many situations.

Used on recent trip to Paris and was impressed with ability to focus on far away images. VR technology helps but you still need a tripod or bi pod for the longest shots. Everything worked as promised in the literature

I am an advanced beginner photographer. I love this lens because I always have my camera with me (D7200), and I don't like to keep changing lens. It is also easy to take indoor pictures, without having to move almost out of the Living Room to take pictures of the kids. I also love the clarity and colors for landscapes, etc. I also have edited with Photoshop, and found that enlarging the picture didn't affect the quality of the picture unless, it was enlarged a huge amount.

I recently purchased the 18-300 to put on my D3200. I have been amazed. I really like to shot nature photography. I ride around National Parks and highway around the USA, I mostly pull over and shot from my motorcycle when a good shot presents it self..This all-in-one has not let me down. I got this lens as I would switch lenses frequently, and worried about dust getting in the camera (National Park can get very dusty). Now, I never have to remove the lens from the camera and I'm always ready for any shot, whether it be a close-up of a Buffalo or a wide angle sunset. It does have a little weight to it, so it won't spend much time just hanging on to the strap, you'll want to hold it. It's well worth it... Another thing that I like is the ability to override the autofocus. When the shutter release is pressed half-way and the camera focuses, you can override it and focus manually simply by rotating the focus ring. No switching back & forth from auto to manual. If you can find one in stock, BUY IT! Note: This lens also partly blocks for the focusing light when shooting in dark conditions. (However, this is a problem with all large diameter lenses, and not specifically related to this particular lens)

This lens is a great all-in-one lens for nearly every setting. Images look great, quick AF-S and image stabilization. Only disadvantage might be the bulk. It's big, it's kinda heavy, but it's still lighter and smaller than carrying a camera bag around with extra lenses! Would love to see a lower f # on a lens this size for super wide shots, but I guess you can't have it all. Buy without hesitation. My local store pricematched an online retailer for 20% less than best buy price.
