Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Standard Zoom Lens's impressive zoom range and versatility, finding it useful for various shooting situations and convenient to carry as a single lens. However, some customers noted that the lens is somewhat large and heavy, which may be a drawback for some users. The weight and size might be a consideration for those seeking a more portable option.

I've had my 18-300 for a couple of weeks. This lens replaced an 18-200 Nikon and both on a D7000. Like the 18-200, this is a "compromise" lens. I'm compromising Image Quality for convenience, but so far I can't really see any major issues. Sport events, performances, low light, etc. all work very well with clear and sharp images. The lens construction is excellent, although plastic like all of the consumer Nikkor lenses, but not wrong at this price point. It does feel sturdy, tight and built, but it is a little. For me, that works, as I prefer a heavier lens for stability. I don't get any lens creep and it feels comfortable to handle. I think this one is a keeper and since I wanted to be able to carry one lens, I believe it is working for me. Since it is new, I am reserving my durability rating to Good, but so far it feels still like when I got it and my old 18-200 is still in perfect condition.

Absolutely love this lens. I originally bought this lens for my wife's camera several years ago, and it was the only lens she would use for most occasions. Then the lens suffered an impact on a ride at Disneyland and it lost its ability to focus accurately at long ranges. We sadly made do without the lens for a year, and that's when we realized how much we appreciated it. After that year, I finally gave in and bought the lens again just before another vacation trip, and it was worth every penny, twice. With its wide range, from close-ups to long range 300mm telephoto, you're always ready. Not needing to switch out lens is the single best feature of this lens. I'm certain photography purest don't mind carrying around a bag of lens, but for the fast moving family, this lens is a keeper. Plus, the vibration reduction really makes a difference on some of those shots where the photographer is moving more than the subject.
