Great lightweight lens that make beautiful photos
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Nikon 35 mm f/1.8 and couldn't be happier. I own a Nikon D3200 and this is a great lens for this type of camera. The pictures come out very crisp and clean. The autofocus is fast and responsive. I have been using two manual lenses, 28mm f/2.8 and a 50mm/1.4 so I know what photos should look like when using good glass. The 35mm f/I.8 gives the same quality images without having to do the manual focus thing. You know when you have the subject in the view finder and you have to do the fine tuning and oops the subject is gone. Not with this baby. It's Wiz Bang. And you have the shot. The colors are vibrant and the depth of field is spot on. It is also excellent in low light. Great price, great purchase and great pics.

Great lens for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great lens for the price. I was between this lens and the 50mm lens, since there was only a $10 difference. Ultimately I decided to choose this lens instead for fear that I would have to stand too far away to use the 50mm lens. Definitely worth the investment to purchase this lens if you are trying to upgrade from kit lens. If you are still shooting on Auto Mode though, I would suggest playing around and getting used to the shutter and aperture modes before purchasing this lens. You will get more bang for your buck if you use this lens not in Auto Mode. I mainly use it for shooting cars and so far I have found that I am taking way less photos than I had to with the kit lens.

Great value for the price
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very new to photography. I purchased my first real camera back in the Spring. The camera came with the usual kit lens 18-55 mm + 70-300 mm zoom. I have been happy with those lenses but I decided I wanted to upgrade to a faster lens. After researching options and getting advice from my cousin who is a knowledgeable and experienced photographer (he highly recommended this lens for cost and performance) I purchased the Nikon 35mm f/1.8. As usual B&H came through with amazing turn around (only a couple of days from order to delivery). It arrived today but unfortunately the weather is dark, rainy and dismal so I can't really test it out too much. I did try a couple of test exposures shooting some plants around my patio. I took identical shots using my 18-55mm kit lens @ 35mm and the 35mm f/1.8 using one of the fully auto modes. The results were pretty dramatic. The f/1.8 was 2 stops faster and the ISO dropped from 1800 for the kit lens to 800 for the f/1.8. The resulting image with the f/1.8 was brighter and sharper. It's hard to judge based on just a couple of test images, but it's pretty obvious this lens way outperforms the 18-55mm kit lens and is a real bargain cost wise.

Great 52.5mm full frame equivalent for crop sensor
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an old Nikon D5200 from 2013. I had survived on the kit zoom lens and some of my vintage F-mount film lenses (yes, you can use old lenses, but you will not have autofocus and will have to adjust aperture on the lens). But as I ended up using my camera to cover events, I needed to upgrade to modern lenses. I initially bought the 50mm and 85mm f/1.8 G lenses that work on full frame and crop sensor Nikon cameras (FX and DX). But since the 5200 is a crop sensor camera, I still needed a “normal” nifty-fifty equivalent lens. So I went for this affordable 35mm DX lens (52.5mm FX full frame equivalent field of view). I love its compact size and the beautiful images that it captures. Do not confuse it with the cheaper “D” series lens. Check compatibility on the Nikon site as the D lens will not have autofocus capability with older cameras like the D5200. That’s why I went with this lens which was a little more expensive but still very affordable.

Incredible lens to go with the other Nikon ones...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is *THE* main lens to get after you buy your Nikon DSLR (D3500, D5600, etc..) See, the Nikon's come with "kit" lenses (as they are called) and are the standard 18-55mm small zoom, and sometimes it comes bundled with the larger 70-300mm zoom. Anyway... The 18-55mm lens is great for starters and gets you going. But then you want to really get into photography and get sharper images, blurred background, etc... so you need a more wide open (i.e. "f-stop") lens. You could use the 18-55mm lens and set it on 35mm and that would be okay, but it wouldn't be as sharp as a real, true, dedicated 35mm lens that goes all the way open to f/1.8!! The other factor is that with the DX format, it as a 1.5x "crop factor", so that means that a 35mm lens actually produces a photo at 52.5mm (extremely close to the famous "Nifty Fifty" - the 50mm lens). If you bought Nikon's DX version of the 50mm lens, well then, it would calculate out and produce a photo that is 75mm. Long story short... This lens is amazing and so sharp and produces photos exactly like the human eye perception. You will LOVE this lens! Trust me on that!

Fast and Sharp lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent lens for photography in low light action conditions or if you want to maximize your image quality by using the lowest iso possible. You will be shooting at f/4.5 at 35mm using the 18-55mm kit lens vs f/1.8 with this 35mm. This will let you shoot at a much faster shutter speed to freeze any action in low light. If you are taking portrait or landscape pictures, the VR function in the 18-55mm kit lens helps reduce the advantage of the 35mm f/1.8 lens. Because this lens is small and light weight, it's easy to take this along for those low light situations. Also, by shooting with a wider aperture lens, you will be able to shoot at a lower iso rating. In general, shooting at a lower iso leads to a higher quality image.

Great first prime lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first prime lense for my Nikon D3400 camera. Its now my new favorite lense to use. The 1.8 aperture produces excellent bokeh and makes running in low light easier. The auto focus is a little louder than the kit lens but it produces clear sharp photos. Highly recommend if lot for a good first prime.

Absolutely worth it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am definitely in the beginning stage of photography and when I bought the D3400 I assumed the lens that came with it would be perfect, while it definitely is a great lens. This lens takes it to another step. Definitely worth it to make your pictures look way more professional. You can see the color image is with the stock lens and the black and white is with this lens.

great lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love using this lens on my D3100. It is light weight. It has a wide open aperture, f/1.8, which is very good when you are working in low-light situations. It is great for taking indoor photos.

Perfect lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the perfect lens to buy after mastering the kit lens. It takes sharp images and also performs well in low light. Since I have a crop sensor camera I would suggest getting the 35mm. The focal length seems to be perfect for indoors and outdoors. Awesome lens for a reasonable price.

Must have addition to your Nikon
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this lens for my kids and/or indoor pictures. There is nothing better to get those beautiful shots while your kids are running around you like crazy people. And low light is the best. My house is often not bright enough to allow typical lenses the ability to get the great shot. This one does it all. The next lens you get after this one is the 70-200.

Sharp, Affordable Prime Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I only shoot APS-C Nikon bodies for DSLR. Because of the cropped sensor, a 35mm lens gets me closer to a 50mm prime "portrait" lens than the actual 50mm lens. Both lenses take sharp, beautiful pictures. The picture provided was shot in .NEF (RAW) format and converted to JPEG. I generally avoid prime lenses because I like having variable focusing options (I actually returned my 50mm a day after buying it) but this one is a spectacular, affordable addition to my gear. The focusing ring helps a lot.

Always with Me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is always on my camera or on my person. I love taking candid shots of my little nieces and nephews, and this lens is fast enough to do just that. I'm just staring to move away from the automatic focus and using the manual ring more and more, I love that I have that option. It takes crisp photos nearly every time, I really love this lens.

A pocket full of prime for a change purse of $$
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is the perfect focal length for a DX format Nikon DSLR. The crispness of this lens is amazing tack sharp pictures where you can count eyelashes. If you are shooting individuals you need to get up close and personal for head shots but it’s worth it. Lens feels light and plastic like, (because it has a lot of plastic) but it doesn’t feel cheap. Autofocus is lightning fast. Best $199 you can spend on a prime lens

Prime lenses add a lot!
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I learned photography when zoom lenses were first being perfected. I enjoy the simplicity of working with a fixed focal length, especially with the wider maximum aperture fixed lenses can offer, I have been able to step up my game now that I can set a photo for shallower depth of field or exposures in lower light without flash. This lens gives good detail and focuses quickly. The Nikon mount is easy to use and the lens takes standard 52mm filters which are easy to get as well. If you have never worked with a prime lens this would be a good one to start with, as it works with Nikon consumer cameras to produce a "normal" point of view - one that approximates the field of view of the human eye. Try it out!

Useful speed, focal length, lightness, ease of use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Light, fast, and easy to use. An excellent partner to a slower, heavier zoom lens. Great for subdued light conditions, people and street photography, snapshots. An inexpensive, useful addition to your kit.

Great all-purpose lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this after a few months of deliberation and reading reviews and have used it as a throw-on lens for walking around and casual photography and also for macro work. For the price, this is an incredible lens. Being sharp at all apertures, even wide open, with crisp colors and contrast for this price makes this lens difficult to beat. If you have a gap in your kit for a shorter focal length lens like this, don't hesitate with this one because this lens isn't likely to disappoint. I took it to a local 5k color run and some of the images it produced were just outstanding.

a must buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.after ditching my point and shoot 10 months ago for a nikon d3200, i finally felt like i was ready for an upgrade from my kit lens (18-55mm). i spent a long time trying to figure out if i should get the 35mm or the 50mm- both have fantastic reviews so it was hard to choose. i ended up getting the 35mm because i realized that on my 18-55mm, i usually prefer to leave my camera around 35mm. as far as i can tell from the test pictures i took, this lens is as good as they say it is. very sharp images and does quite nicely under low-light. i can't wait to take this lens on my next trip later this month and see how the pictures turn out.
