Customers highly value the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Standard Lens for its excellent image quality, pleasing bokeh, and impressive low light performance. The lens is also praised for its affordable price, ease of use, and lightweight design. While some users find the auto focus to be adequate, the lens is generally well-received.

35mm is an awesome lens. I have a total of 3 lenses and I'm a novice. The 35mm is really fun to mess around with because it has amazing blurry background effect. Simple and minimal. Low price for quality.

Excellent Nikon lens; I used it during my trip in Europe taking great landscape pictures all on my way. Light, rapid, and easy to use.

I really like this lens and keep it on my camera most of the time as a replacement for the stock 18-55mm kit lens. It takes incredible pictures. At f/1.8, you can really take some cool shots of the night sky too with extended exposures. For $200, I'd definitely buy again. The downside to a fixed 35mm is that you have to adjust yourself to the shot instead of being able to zoom but hey, that's what you are buying...
Awesome overall!

The day after I bought my Nikon D5600, I decided to buy this lens to go with the pair of kit lens that was already included with the camera. The aperture of the lens help create beautiful photos within low lighting. It's actually suitable for almost every scene that you'd want to capture. The only downfall to it is its fixed zoom, meaning you'd have to walk back or forward in order for positioning pictures. All in all, I believe it's great for beginners in photography since it helps with low-lighting while also staying versatile in many other situations. P.S.: The auto focus is a bit noisy/jumpy, but manual focus should cure this.

Great Prime for Crop Sensor (DX Format) Cameras

I started using a DSLR with the Nikon D5100. My first lens was the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 and it was fantastic in all situations except when I wanted to take group photos indoors. With the crop sensor on the D5100 the 50mm simply was not wide enough for use - especially when trying to get a couple kids in frame as they play inside. Similarly, I'd find myself completely across the room trying to get a photo of people sitting on a couch.
The 35mm f/1.8 is perfect until I get the itch to go to a full-frame camera body. Like the 50mm it is great in low-light and takes very crisp photographs as long as you're careful with the focus. Once you put it on your camera, you will rarely switch it off.

We bought this, anticipating it would be a great portrait lens. As it turns out, we use it for an everyday lens. The low f/1.8 allows for multiple applications. Great quality, great price.

Nice upgrade from a "kit" lens

I've been an amateur photographer for 30+ years and am slowly building my lens collection for my DSLR. This is a great upgrade from a standard kit lens, offering much better aperture values. I've used it now on several occasions and am very pleased. I now have this lens mounted on my camera (D7100) full-time. If you are looking at buying your first lens or upgrading from kit lenses, this is a GREAT lens for the buck. Although there is a photographic difference between the 1.4 and the 1.8 lenses, unless you NEED 1.4, this is a great choice at half the cost. I have no complaints what-so-ever, and am very pleased.

First lens I've bought other than my kit lens. Great for low light environment. Takes fabulous photos and blurts the background enough to really emphasize the target. Love it

Gotta have it for a basic SLR setup, an f/1.8 with built in AF for 200. If you bought a lower end SLR this lens will give you the pictures you were expecting. Great for scenic and portrait shots.

I love this lens!! The pictures turn out so good. I'm so glad I bought it. The only issue is there's no zoom, but I can live with that if that means it saves me $200-$300 dollars. I'll just walk closer to the object I'm shooting.

This literally is the epitome of great camera lenses. Although the focal length requires you to move to get your subject in the shot, the overall sharpness and background blur (bokeh) is fantastic and would make your lens arsenal even better! I will be using this for photojournalistic purposes, as well as portraits and landscapes as the wide-viewing angles are great for all intended purposes (outside of things that require zoom) . A must have!

Nifty Fifty for the Cropped DSLR

My previous review was for the 50mm f/1.8G I gave it a 5 star review for performance, but with the note that I was having issues 'fitting' subjects into my view. As such, I returned it and purchased this 35mm instead.
Once again I give this Nikon lens a 5 star. Does exactly what I need. With the 1.5 crop factor for my D3200, this gives me good life size view of what I'm taking. Image quality is great as always, and the fast speed definitely works well for low light. I have this lens on my camera a lot more than the other zoom lens I own.

My camera is the Nikon D7100, DX (cropped) format, and I wanted a lens for street photography and closer portraits. With the crop adjustment, this gives a crop factor of around 52mm, my "nifty fifty".
The bokah at 1.8 is creamy, minimal focus distance is very short, and the image quality is wonderful. There are a lot of plastic parts in this lens, but it still feels solid.

This little lens is one of the best lower-priced macro lenses on the market, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. I just got it and I'm still learning how to use it.

I've been shooting with a nikon D40 and was happy with it at first but felt I had outgrown it... I bought this lens b/c the 50mm would not autofocus with the D40.. LOVE IT! Def. recommend this lens! Can't wait to use it with the new D7000 when it comes out!

Better bokeh than a kit!

Alright guys so I'll keep it short but here's the main take aways from this lens:
Considering the fact it's a DX lens, if used on a DX camera, it's actually roughly equivalent to 52.5mm In relation to a full frame camera. If used on a FX or full frame camera, there would be significant vignetting.
This is a prime lens, the fixed focal length also means that unlike your kit lens, you cannot zoom. Your feet are you zoom. This forces you to think differently about composition and also pulls out creativity that you may not know you have.
It has an Auto Focus motor in it, that is Nikons "Silent Wave" series (AF-S) and it tries to be silent, but you'll hear it.
Best for last, the Bokeh (Bow then think of the "ke" sound in "kettle") this lens produces is incredible. It's aperture opens wide for the price you're paying (people call this aspect, "fast", a "fast lens") and at 1.8 your foreground is in focus but your background just melts away and to me it's a canvas to get real creative with lights and colors behind your subject. If you're a beginner like me, this is the time that you experiment with focus points and metering to really learn the ins and outs of your camera.
Hope this helps, it's a great lens and at this price point, it's well worth the money. It's plastic, yes, but the lens mount is metal, so this thing is built to last and still has a premium feel to it.
Great for a first prime lens!
