    Better bokeh than a kit!

Alright guys so I'll keep it short but here's the main take aways from this lens: Considering the fact it's a DX lens, if used on a DX camera, it's actually roughly equivalent to 52.5mm In relation to a full frame camera. If used on a FX or full frame camera, there would be significant vignetting. This is a prime lens, the fixed focal length also means that unlike your kit lens, you cannot zoom. Your feet are you zoom. This forces you to think differently about composition and also pulls out creativity that you may not know you have. It has an Auto Focus motor in it, that is Nikons "Silent Wave" series (AF-S) and it tries to be silent, but you'll hear it. Best for last, the Bokeh (Bow then think of the "ke" sound in "kettle") this lens produces is incredible. It's aperture opens wide for the price you're paying (people call this aspect, "fast", a "fast lens") and at 1.8 your foreground is in focus but your background just melts away and to me it's a canvas to get real creative with lights and colors behind your subject. If you're a beginner like me, this is the time that you experiment with focus points and metering to really learn the ins and outs of your camera. Hope this helps, it's a great lens and at this price point, it's well worth the money. It's plastic, yes, but the lens mount is metal, so this thing is built to last and still has a premium feel to it. Great for a first prime lens!

Really makes a difference (compared to the stock lens that came with my Nikon D3300). The main reason I bought them was to take pictures of my babies; it is ridiculous how amazing the pictures are; the photos super clear and sharp, even on low-light they do look amazing. The feedback I got from friends and family is that I am a "professional" on photos, but in reality, the magic is all built into that little lens; you won't regret! Highly recommended for beginners like myself.

I use this lens for landscape shots as well as taking pictures of my cats around the house. I thought I would miss the zoom features of a variable lens but the 35mm is very easy to adjust to and actually made me more creative with my shots. Getting that background blur and keeping the ISO low is a big plus also. The lens focuses fast and the pictures are clear. Good quality lens and price.

This is the perfect lens for anyone who is starting out in the world of DSLR photography. A great lens for low light photography and a great way to get that professional looking shallow depth of field. Very inexpensive for razor sharp images and excellent build quality. If you have a crop sensor camera this is just like getting a "Nifty 50". Highly recommended.

The benefits of a prime are that it does not sacrifice picture quality in order to allow for zoom capabilities and that it will force you to physically move in order to take the best possible picture. This means that the lens not only takes great pictures, it helps you learn to physically move yourself into the ideal location to take them as you cannot zoom. This can be a drawback if you want a wide angle picture, but it handles macro well and portraits have fantastic background blur.

This is a really good lens for a great price. The low light capability allows it to have fast shutter speeds. It is very silent and doesn't bother as much when shooting in video. This lens does not have vibration reduction, but at its focal length it isn't bad enough to return it. I recommend it to anyone getting into photography. It is a great starter lens at a very affordable price.

Pros and cons on my d7200

I actually really liked using this on my d7200. As you might know the d7200 is a crop sensor camera which has a zoom of 1.5 times zoomed compared to a full frame camera. With that being said the 35 on a crop sensor lens is actually 52.5 which is more comparable to the 50mm. I love that because it's a prime it has the ability to have f 1.8 and nice bokeh. It is pretty decent on pricing but what draws me back is that sometimes in the photos the subject is only somewhat in focus and what I mean by that is that even though the subject is same distance the edges of the subject at 1.8 can sometimes be a little blurred. As with the price it might be a draw back if you're soon planning to move to full frame because though you can mount it on a fx camera it's meant for dx. Just weigh out your options and figure out what you're aiming for and what you truly need

I have be putting off getting a prime lense too long. This is a great Lense, fast f1.8 stop. Took this on a hike with the family and was delighted by the result. Good color and nice softening of background. All and all this made a nice addition to my camera setup and I could not be any happier with the results of the lense. On sale now!

Great great lense! Sharp pics, light weight.... a must have in your camera bag! Had to make a choice between 50mm and 35mm, after reading reviews all over the Internet and watching too many YouTube videos decided to try out the 35mm......no regrets there. Definitely look into this lense

I bought this lens primarily for the available fstop of 1.8 to work with portrait photography. It has been a learning curve for me to take the advantage of the features of the lens. Early on I had a lot of out of focus shots, or was not getting the kind of background blur I expected. It was not the fault of the lens, it was my use of it. Comparatively speaking, this is a good lens for the price. In environments where I need to be very close to my subjects, and the lighting is less than optimal, this lens has been a game changer. That said, this is not the lens I would put on my camera by default. It is the lens I take out for particular situations.

This is an excellent lens. Bought for my wife's camera and it takes sharp photos at a wider angle than her 50mm lens. The 35 on a DX format camera is closer to a "normal" lens - 50mm after the 1.5x conversion factor. The lens is very sharp, especially at the widest aperture setting. Great background blur. Excellent in low light. Would highly recommend as a great starter lens for anyone buying a Nikon SLR.

I went in to buy the 50mm 1.8 and bought this instead. I used it for babies in wild flowers pictures right away and everyone loved the results. An evening birthday party gave an opportunity to try low light shots and it allowed faster shutter speeds and sharper results. I'll get a lot of use from this lens. The knowledgable associate in the Portland Cascades Station store really helped me choose the lens best suited to my needs.

This is a fantastic lens for an affordable price. I use mine on a DX format (a D3400) so am not sure how they perform on FX formats. Before buying this lens, I relied heavily on my 55 - 300, but this prime 35mm has become my standard go-to because the image quality is much better. Obvious improvements over kit lenses in terms of depth of field and low-light/indoor settings.

Very great lens, and really cheap too. I originally purchased this lens specifically for star / night pictures. Which it really did a great job. I was able to capture more star light in less amount of time with the lens open. Really happy with that. Only thing I was wish this had is a wider viewing angle.

If you're a novice D-SLR user and are ready to move on from your 18-55mm lens kit, this is a great affordable lens for your low light and portrait photography. With this lens, I can take many of the indoor shots I want without using the flash. Additionally, you'll certainly notice the effects of the wider aperture on your photos with this lens when compared to your included lens kit.

I bought this because I wanted to have another fixed-focus lens handy seeing how I now refuse to take my trusty 50 1.8 off of my Nikon 8008 film camera. All I can say is wow. Very nice piece of glass for everyone. It is my everyday lens now, only taken off of my D7000 when absolutely necessary. Worth every penny and honestly, its a pretty darn inexpensive item in the realm of photography.

This is an excellent prime lens that is great for family photos especially with no flash. Bokeh is great using the low f stops. Lens is very light weight and compact so it is ideal for taking it everywere. If you like the more portrait look to your photos consider getting the 50mm instead, but if not this is a great lens.

I have a number of zoom lens ranging from 18 to 300 mm. But I wanted a fast, single focal length lens for portrait and indoor use that was light and fast to use. Even though it is 35 mm, in DX format that bring it up to roughly a 50 mm standard focal length. For me it was a great choice.
