Customers are saying
Customers value the impressive zoom capabilities and excellent image quality of the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm lens. They also appreciate its ease of use, and many find the lens to be lightweight and versatile. While some find the size a bit large for portability, the positive feedback on image quality and zoom range outweighs this concern for most users.

VERY GOOD TELEPHOTO LENS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this lens as a part of a bundle from my Nikon D5500. This is very good in photographing wildlife. Its reach is unbelievable. I was able to capture a variety of birds and the animals. Its a very good lens if you wanna capture wildlife and nature in general

Awesome everyday zoom lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this lens a few months ago to use with my Nikon D5000 because I really love outdoor photography (wildlife) and the 18-55mm that came with the camera wasn't getting me close enough. At the same time, I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a professional lens. Being able to zoom to 300mm gets me plenty close enough in almost all situations and the autofocus is faster than I expected. The picture quality is crystal clear as you would expect with any Nikkor lens. This isn't an indoor lens - the aperture isn't tremendously fast - but is fantastic outdoors. I've used it for wildlife, sports, kids, long exposure, etc and have had great results; perfect add on to most kit lenses!

Just what I needed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I attended my brother's college graduation with just a 55mm lense that came with my Digital SLR camera and was extremely disappointed with the pictures I was able to take because I couldn't get close enough to the stage to take good shots. But with THIS 300mm puppy, I can zoom in to my heart's delight. It was easy to attach to my Nikon D5000 camera and the Vibration Reduction feature really helps as I zoom in (as any sniper can tell you, even the slightest "camera shake" is exaggerated the closer you zoom in to your target#, enabling me to take quick, clear shots of my subject from far away. I have included a picture of a heron I was able to take while zoomed in with this lense, and as you might suspect with any wildlife, I was nowhere close to this animal when I took the picture. #Hopefully, all the detail of the picture is transferred as I upload it to this review website. It should be crystal clear)

A must for family vacations
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Nikon D3300 DLSR. Great camera. I could have went Cannon for my first DLSR, but I decided Nikon. The 17-55 mm that comes with it is good, but for the longer shots ( like those taken at sporting events, or beaches for example) you need something like this. I read reviews on other brands. I chose this Nikkor because it has VR (vibration reduction). if your not the steadiest hands in the west or leaning on a brace, this feature helps when your zoomed out. Ask those who are more photo savvy than I and they will tell you the same.

LOVE this Lens!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this lens for about 4 months now. I love it. I really have no complaints. I wanted to get that extra oomph for taking pictures of my daughter playing soccer. I felt the 18-55mm lens just was not getting me on the field like what i wanted. The 55-300mm lens gave me what i wanted. It's gets me 'on the field' with my daughter and i can actually see her face. It works the way i expect it to. The shutter is not obnoxiously loud. It's a little heavy and bulky but that's is something I've gotten used to. I almost got the 55-200mm but the sales woman showed me this and I fell in love. It gives me tat oopmh. She also helped me get a great price! I saved about $150!!

Great Lens for the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased A Nikon D3300 and switched from Canon products , so I needed to replace my canon telephoto lens. I was a little Leary because I was quite happy with my old gear. But after buying and trying the Nikkor lens I'am sure it will preform well. I like the feel and ease of use. It focuses smoothly. Feels lighter to hold then my old gear, so far quite happy. Cost was about the same as my old Canon telephoto lens with same features. Would recommend.

Great lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this lens to use for sporting events and a graduation ceremony. Due to the distances from the events and stage area needed something capable of zoom and clarity. Does great on both accounts. Incredibly clear and stable shots. Read and researched what was out there for my Nikon and had basically decided on this lens and Best Buy associate also highly recommended this one. Haven't been disappointed.

Great start
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an extension of my review of the Nikon - D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - Black. I am a photography enthusiast not a photographer. I've taken just over a thousand shots with this lens, mostly one at a time. I chose to purchase this lens with the D5300 kit because I wanted something to capture wildlife. I chose this lens over the 55-200mm because I wanted the extra range. Strengths: The 55-300mm's range is versatile, well worth the price hike over the 55-200mm. The VR performs well. Good portrait performance and bokeh Weaknesses: The AF is not terribly fast. The Manual focus feels crude and seems to jump with minute adjustments. My images seem to be sharpest up to 270mm. I see a loss in sharpness across the focus options after 270mm with a tripod. This could very well be user error or the camera. Forget about group shots indoors unless you have a cavernous space. Does not have a lens mount for a tri/monopod Rather heavy Final thoughts: With all of these weaknesses, why did I give it four stars? This lens offers great performance for the price. I consider this lens a must have if your only other lens is the 18-55mm kit lens. If you are only going shoot distant subjects, this is a solid contender for your only lens. I highly recommend some form of external stabilization. I use a cheap tri/monopod 90% of the time. As with any zoom lens, tiny motion at the camera body translates to lots of motion at your subject. If you buy this lens and find a squirrel in your bird feeder... Set up for the shot. Zoom to fill the frame. Throw it off to the side. Boom! Tack-sharp squirrel shot. Happy shooting!

Great lens, steady pictures while zoomed in.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my wife a D3100 for Christmas, while boating she realized the 18-55 was not powerful enough. We went out during the Herring spawn and got some great whale pictures with the 55-300 lens. With a powerful flash you can take indoor pics but have to change the flash settings for each distance you shoot. I uploaded some whale and bald eagle pics we were able to get with this lens.

This lens surpassed my hopes.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Nikon camera just before a vacation. Because I love to take photos of wildlife and the moon, I also purchased a distance lens. The 55-300mm lens exceeded my expectations. It was almost shocking how far it could zoom. Then with basic Windows photo editing, I could zoom in closer and still have clarity and resolution. I am so pleased with my camera and lens choices.

An excellent addition for amateur photographers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a wonderful addition for the hobbyist that is looking for a decent telephoto without breaking the bank. I've had this lens for exactly 24 hours, shot oh, maybe 80 pictures, and the only real bad ones were my error. The VR when shoot at max range is worth its weight in gold. I use the old D3000, works great with that. My only issue is low light, really low light...and that's what you use Photoshop for, :). I took the picture examples with the lens right out of the box, not noticing the VR wasn't engaged and STILL took a decent shot. The pictures taken were quite a distance away from the subjects with the lens maxed.

Good Lens for Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is good for outdoor sports. It is not a great lens for indoors, but I knew that when I bought it. There are better lenses out there with lower f/, but you are going to pay greatly for them. This is a good lens for a good price. Do your research, ensuring the lens will do everything you anticipate you will need. If you understand the limitations, you will be very happy with this lens.

Biggest bang for your buck under $400
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the $400 price on this lens, it's a pretty decent lens. Lenses in the f/4.5-5.6 range are pretty good in normal lighting situations or outside in daylight. If you are looking for something to take dimly lit photos, this is NOT the lens for you. If you are looking for a lens to catch fast acting sports, kids running, or anything with speed.......this is NOT the lens for you. If you want something that will take everything.........you need a f/2.8 lens. Yes, they are more expensive, but you will have it for 10+ years, and they take significantly sharper images in all situations, and you will be amazed how many people want you to take their photos.

Better Than I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this after purchasing the Nikon D5200 Camera Kit and found that we needed a lens that would get far away shots closer than what we were liking with the included lens in the kit. This lens works great. I probably have used it more than the included lens. The pictures are clear and crisp. It snaps on very easily and changes out quickly. The auto focus is great. I have no complaints with this lens at all.

Very good Zoom lens for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did my reseach on this lens and read all the pros and cons on it. For the money this lens performs excellently! Its not a fast zoom lens and the price reflects that. I read the reviews stating to save your money and get a zoom that is faster. Well for me, the hobbyis,t I rather save my money buy this lens and a few others that I can have in my bag! I guess it really comes down to what you need.
