Customers are saying

Customers love the outstanding image quality and impressive zoom capabilities of the AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Super Telephoto Zoom Lens. The fast focus speed and effective Vibration Reduction are also frequently praised, along with the lens's reach and value for its price. However, some find the lens to be large and heavy.

Incredible performance from a "compact and light" telephoto of this type. Sure, its not an f/4, but it also doesn't weight 10 pounds. Its easy enough to hand hold and carry if your walking through the woods and the VR is extremely good in this case. Its a bargain for what you get from it. The images are great.

I've enjoyed using this lens. So far it's taking very good pictures. I'm pairing it with my Nikon D7500. The auto-focus is quite a bit quicker than the stock 80mm - 300mm lens that came with my camera. I didn't have any issues attaching and detaching the lends from my camera. The one thing I don't like about this lens is the weight. It weighs about 5 lbs and it's not fun carrying it around for more than 15 or 20 minutes.

I have owned this lens for a couple of years now. Mostly do bird photography as a hobby and this lens has helped me take a few really good pics. Quick to focus and pictures are excellent specially for small birds.

This lens has delivered all the performance that I hoped for. Even at 500 mm the pictures are very sharp. Focus speed is not great but very good, all that I expected for this price range. It works well with my D500. I am still learning how to handle this lens and my results continue to improve.

For the price, the reach you get with this lens is fabulous. If you use it on a DX camera, it gets even better. I really like the 5.6 constant aperture. I have gotten some amazing sports shots that I think I would have otherwise missed.

I read a lot of on line articles before purchasing this lens. Yes, it is heavy, and should be used on a tripod, but can be hand held, if needed. The pictures were astounding, and I think it's the best lens for the money. I used it on both FX and DX Nikon cameras, and the autofocus is quick and yielded sharp pictures.

Great lens for the money. I had been looking at this 200 to 500 mm lens for a while now. I finally decided to purchase it and I have no regrets. It's a great lens for the money. I am impressed with the sharp images I'm getting. It is a big and a little on the heavy side but for the money I don't think you can beat it. I say it's a way to get super telephoto pictures without breaking the bank.

I took a trip to Kenya to go on a safari. I purchased this lens to go on my Nikon D810. I was blown away by the quality of the images that this combination produced. This is an outstanding lens. Two things to think about before purchasing; it is very heavy and the hood does not attach tight enough. I did not take the hood with me to Africa.

This lens is being used to get clear detailed photos of deer, moose and other wildlife. It is well built and gives clear sharp photos without endangering the photographer or disturbing the animals. It is heavy and needs to be mounted on a tripod or supported in some other way to enhance the quality of the shot.

Great lens, clear and precise, love the constant aperture. Recommend mono or tripod with it, it does get heavy after awhile.

I am so very pleased with this lens! It gives me crisp images of the wildlife I photograph from distances from which could not take photos before. I do not find the weight of the lens to be problematic and it works wonderfully with my D7200 camera body. Highly recommend this lent!

This lens is so cool!! The pictures I get at 500mm are outstanding. I use a monopod because this lens does have some weight to it. But as long as I brace myself agent a tree or building, I can still get beautiful shots without one.

Extraordinary telephoto lens, sharp enough for wildlife and sport events. The best in this class for Nikon DSLR camera bodies. Great value, supporting 5.6 aperture all the way to 500 mm.

Great lens! Great price for a lens that is entry for this level of zoom. I highly recommend. Have shot soccer games primarily with great images. It is exactly what I was hoping for when I purchased it.

For the price you can't beat this super telephoto lens from Nikon. It's too bad that it doesn't go to 600mm like the Tamron and Sigma 150-600mm, but it is native Nikon glass and gives better quality photos than the Tamron and Sigma.

I haven't had a chance to use this lens yet. What little I have used it for has been good. It is heavy, and I am on the lookout for a new monopod to assist.

Do you love long walks on the beach, quiet picnics in the park...wait...I AM reviewing the lens. Take this thing everywhere...handheld. You will capture all the beauty of (distant) nature. Out of the box I got shots of M15, Harriet and E9 that the owner of the land where the eagles nest is located said were the best at showing the size difference in the mating pair. WARNING: This lens will make you want to quit your job and be in nature full time.

Works great and has wonderful clarity and gives good close up opportunities. The only draw back is that it is very heavy and a monopo or tripod is needed in order to keep it steady for the photos.

I purchased this lens after reading several reviews posted on DPReview. This lens is sharp! It can be used on full frame or crop sensor cameras. The build quality is very good and for a zoom lens that reaches out to 500mm, the price is fantastic!
