Customers frequently mention the outstanding image quality and useful zoom capabilities of the AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm lens. The focus speed, vibration reduction, and price are also appreciated features. However, some customers have noted the lens's weight and size as potential drawbacks. Despite these concerns, the lens appears to be well-received overall.

On par with a prime lens

Though the former advice regarding telephotos was to shy away from zoom lenses and to stick to prime lenses in the interest of optimum sharpness, this lens has shown to be the exception to that rule. It is amazingly sharp, edge to edge, even at full aperture. I am extremely pleased with this lens. And though being a Nikon, you'd expect this lens to be made in Japan, it is made in fact, in China. I've researched this and found that you can't get around this. But, there is no compromise in fit, finish, nor performance. This is worthy of the high expectations of the Nikon name.

The picture quality is excellent; distance and focus speed is phenomenal! You feel like you are flying (see photo attached) or right in the action.
* Even considering the weight, this is my new favorite lens!

Awesome lens that's gets you distance and good quality photo but not the cost of 500mm f4. It is a heavy lens but it comes with the tripod collar to mount it to a tripod. But you can also hand hold and take great shots.

I have been using it for sports (football) but I also plan to use it for wildlife photography. So far so good - fast focus, excellent quality images, even at full zoom. Very pleased with my purchase.

For sport photographer or pro, this is one great lense. Great reviews from YouTube pros as well. Sharp and works great on FX and DX cameras alike. Get an extra 1.5x mag when used in DX format cameras.

I’ve only tested it out once but my pictures came out crisp, it can get a bit heavy after a while of holding it. Other than that it’s good!

I am very happy with my 200 to 500 f5.6 lens, It was a go to lens during a recent safari and my 700 to 200 2.8 only came out in low light conditions. It was fast to focus, has a solid build and was quiet.

What a lens! Big, a little heavy but works very well for our needs. We need a lens this big for taking pictures of wildlife.

Very sharp lens, a little on the heavy side but worth the weight when shooting birds or other wildlife. I love the large foot, it makes carrying it a breeze.

This lens is absolutely wonderful. It is very sharp and very capable in lower light situations. Nice to have a constant aperture throughout the entire zoom range. It is definitely the best lens in this price category.

Nikon lenses are spectacular and this one is no exception. Sharp, good in low light and the constant aperture of f/5.6 was the selling point for me.

I purchased this lens for shooting sports. It is a bit on the heavy side so I shoot with a monopod. The photos are coming out sharp. Also portraits head shots are great. Very sharp with very good bocah

I have read almost all of the online reviews, talked to camera experts and tried the Sigma and Tamron 150-600 mm's, they are good lens and have great features, but in direct comparison I think this Nikkor 200-500 mm is by far the best. For me and my money, they are good, the Tamron, better than the Sigma, by some, but the Nikkor is excellent. I have used it to take pictures of a lioness that is so sharp, you cannot only see her snarl you can hear her when you look at the picture. I highly recommend this lens.

Excellent lense, crystal clear, its a heavy dude so don't buy one if you have wimpy arms. Very pricy compared to other brands with 600mm.
