I needed a wider prime lens that would give me low light capabilities to go along with my D750. I shoot landscapes and indoor concerts so I have a needed for a larger aperture than my f/4 zooms had to offer, along with a shorter focal length prime than my current 50mm & 85mm f/1.8 primes. The 20mm f/1.8 is noticeably sharper in the corners than my 24-120mm f/4G ED VR is at 24mm shot at the same apertures. I've used the 24-120mm for landscapes but sometimes I was wanting more corner sharpness and a bit wider of a lens; this 20mm f/1.8 definitely delivers! I also have the 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED that's my go to landscape lens but its smaller aperture doesn't lend itself to those low light concert shots. After comparing the 20mm f/1.8 to the 18-35mm at 20mm I was very pleased to see that the 20mm f/1.8 is slightly visibly sharper in the corners to my eye, but not by much as the 18-35mm is pretty stellar in that regard as well. I've only done back yard testing with the lens so far, but it's passed with flying colors. Attached is a handheld shot taken with the lens at f/5.6, ISO100 and 1/100. They are both the same shot with a close crop to show the amazing resolving power and detail this lens can produce. This was a RAW shot with nothing done to it other than using lightroom to export the .jpg files.

Great lens! Took this with me on a yellowstone trip last weekend! It performed excellent. Used it for landscape shots. Glad I added it to my kit! Paired this with my D610.

I read and watched tons of reviews on-line; allowing me to determine I REALLY WANTED THIS LENS. From all the reviews and professional commentary on the subject, it appears NIKON has the best 20mm 1.8 on the market. As for my experience, I love the fact the lens is razor sharp even wide-open at f/1.8...Fabulous little lens, which happens to be 77mm in diameter allowing to share filters with the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 ED & others.

Everyone knows this lens is great for landscapes, night sky photography and portraits. I use it for all three but also macro. The close focusing distance and tack sharp focus makes this lens a must. Easily the most versatile lens in my travel pack.

I had my eye on this lens for a while, and I knew I would love it, but it has exceeded my expectations. This is made for wide city/landscape/seascape photography, and performs exceptionally well in low light, but kills the daytime too. It is quickly becoming my favorite lens.

The lens is well suited for landscapes and indoor videos. Not so much as a prime lens but more of a specialty lens.

Bought this right before i went on vacation. customer service treated me with great respect as i had issues with my first item upon delivery. so they were able send me one just in time before i left. lens has done me wonders super sharp and 20mm is perfect so dont even carry my 18-55mm any more and always have a zoom lens if i ever need it.

Great image quality and low light performance. This is a superb landscape lens, which will autofocus better than any zoom in low light, and give you a better image too. Also makes a fun walk-around lens in low light for the reasons above plus its great DOF. A top-quality Nikkor wide angle at a modest price for what you get. Between this lens and my super-light 28mm Tamron I will never need a slow, heavy wide-angle zoom.

Compact & lightweight, this lens combines the wide perspective of a 20mm focal length, low-light capabilities and shallow Depth of field with an F/18 maximum aperture and the optical characteristics of an advanced NIKKOR prime lens. This is an excellent all-around lens for multiple purposes.

Excellent lens in terms of sharpness, build quality, fast focus, quiet operation. Great to have a f1.8 lens in this focal length, my last one was an f4. I get to use this one in very low light environs...

The reason I purchased this lens was to take Milky Way pictures. I did not get a chance to test this Lens out extensively yet due to not having dark skies. Based on some of my initial tests comparing it with another wide angle lens from a different manufacturer, this is relatively far superior. I would have rated this 5 stars, but the reason I am giving this a 4 star is due to its plastic body taking in account how much this lens costs. Pros: (1) Fast (2) Reduced coma (3) Sharp Cons: (1) Plastic body (2) Takes a lot of stress to screw and unscrew the lens hood

Fast and SHARP wide angle lens, on a dx camera (like my d7000) the lens goes from 20mm to 35mm perfect for full body portraits, and for an fx camera it makes a great landscape lens!

I previously owned the Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D also purchased at BestBuy ... the 20mm f/2.8D can be used on my Sony A7II with a Metabones straight through adapter ... a great combination ... I have nothing but good things to say about the f/2.8D but thought I'd speed things up with the Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED Ultra Wide Angle Lens. I am not a fan of a guilded (G) lens but it's a dream on my Nikon D810. I did have to purchase the Metabones Adapter with the aperture ring to use the G lens on my Sony A7II ... a small price to pay for great results.
