A Great Lens

I originally bought the new 24-70mm f/2.8 with the VR. I read a lot of online reviews and decided to shoot a bunch of test shots with it. I encountered serious “softness” in the images at 70mm. I returned it to Best Buy and got the non-VR 24-70mmm f/2.8. I immediately went home and shot the same images I used to test the VR version – all were sharp. The 70 mm pictures side by side were no comparison as to which lens was better.
I assume I could have gotten another 24-70mm VR lens and tried that but, between the hundreds of dollars difference in price and all the spotty reviews, I decided to get the non-VR version. I have used it constantly since I bought it and couldn’t be happier. Great images. Little to do in post (unless I wanted to transform an image). Quick focusing. I can’t think of any comments that are even mediocre in describing the lens.

The lens is good for subjects that are not moving. Then, I bought the same len with vibration reduction VR. With VR, I found the lens to be eight times faster. This means, my subjects were no longer telling me to hurry up. Both lens are great, but VR is awesome.

Amazing lens, perfect in all situations. Bokeh is great also. Shot a sunrise wedding 1st weekend I had it and the results were amazing. Thank you Nikon for making another masterpiece.

I've been wanting a 2.8 lens from the beginning and now that I have it, I can tell you that my pictures are coming out so much better especially in low lights conditions. My only gripe is the price. But since this is a great quality lens, it's worth it. Nikkor lens is the only way to go for Nikon SLRs.

This lens is crisp, sharp and really quick. The 2.8 is so helpful for low lighting and night photos. I love it!

I haven't had a lot of opportunity to get outside and use this lens on my camera because of the weather being so cold. I have taken a few photos inside and I love the clarity of the pictures. There is much I need to learn about using this lens to achieve what I would like to with it. I hope to do this in the coming months.

The IQ of this lens is very very good (micro-contrast, color saturation, etc.) along with very fast auto focus. For me this is not a walk around lens mainly due to both the weight and the focal range. I use this for event photography, mostly indoors. Thus far I've not found any scenarios where this lens falls short.

One of the "must-own" trinity lenses. Yes, it's a little heavy, but top glass doesn't come without weight.

Purchased this lens for photographing groups, individuals and landscapes. Solid camera which has very sharp optics. Images are sharper and nice color. Use the lens on my Nikon D810 and it may be a bit heavy the solidness of the lens is great outdoors.

A big upgrade from my previous 18-80mm zoom. Going to f/2.8 fixed from the f/3.5-5.6 lens, plus sharper optics has dramatically increased my photo sharpness and image quality. Super smooth transition from 18-80 adjustment. Love this lens.

Great walk-around lens. Took this to Hawaii and served all my purposes, from wide-angle landscapes to portrait close-ups. Good for low-light indoors but cannot replace a prime f1.4 or f.18 under those conditions.
Built like a tank and very heavy.

Meets all of my expectations. I wanted this lens for a long time, and to be able to walk into Best Buy and walk out with it (as opposed to ordering online and waiting) was a bonus. The lens is sharp, not heavy, and is a great compliment to my 70-200.

Great lens as designed and described by Nikon for Professional photographers. Do not misunderstand, anybody can buy and use it but professional use of any equipment puts it through beating and rough test, this lens is designed to handle it all. I love the hood which hides barrel movement. Using it with Nikon D700 and D800 bodies, super fast focus, just aim and shoot. Unlike most other lenses, zoom ring is closer to camera body. I have to keep my left hand long fingers bent for long shoots making my hands tired quicker. This is why I gave 4 points to ease of use. I rarely shoot at shutter speeds below 1/30 seconds, therefore, do not care for vibration reduction but it will be nice to have it for night shots and to pickup ambient light at slower shutters.

This lens is incredibly sharp and extremely fast dead on focus. I am using it for indoor portrait work and the images are great the colors are accurate and focus is dead on.

I chose to save the money and purchase this lens rather than the version with VR and I'm very happy. I never typically shoot below 1/200 so I didn't see the need to upgrade. Very happy with the quality
