I'm an advanced Enthusiast and have been shooting with a D600 for about 1 month.. thus have not really pushed this lens to it's limits timewise; I've shot in RAW mainly in various lighting conditions and this lense has performed really well!.. Using Capture NX2/LR3.6, you can push to get more out from this lens, can easily sharpen output and get amazing I.Q... At F5.6 the image is sharp! The color rendition is great. Even though this is put out there as a "kit lens".. it really performs above expectations.. utilized properly you can get beautiful results.. Really great for wide shots of architecture and landscapes, and zoomed in nice results of portraits/close-ups - the textures/tones captures can be quite rich actually. The VR works really well, and can assist greatly in low light conditions.. have achieved decent quality at 1/20th on FX with post work of course. Build is plastic, but actually it balances really well on D600 - that is not a negative. It's not a "pro" build lens, but used properly the results are very satisfying. Use this lens combined with a tripod for dusk shots and you get sharp and beautiful shots! Highly recommend to enthusiast or if you're new to FX and on a "budget." Great Lens with Great potential. Improving your technique will enable you to extract the most out of this lens, not any shortcomings "perceived" of the equipment.

Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Standard Zoom Lens - Black This is an amazing lens for a full frame Nikon. I was looking for a general 'walk around lens' for my Nikon Df and was disappointed with the photo quality from Sigma and Tamron. Nikon had a couple offerings and this seemed to fit my needs. I have had this lens for almost two month and have shot close to two thousand images thru it and am completely happy. The auto focus is super fast and exposure is spot on. I have only one issue and it is a minor one. This lens is not as fast as I would like thus the depth of field is not as shallow but like I said this is a walking around lens that I keep on at all time. If I am wanting shallow depth of field I can plan on using a faster prime lens.

I love my 18-200mm, but wanted something that could take sharper portrait and up-close (within 30 feet) pictures reliably. Nothing wrong with the 18-200mm-- it is my "go-to lens" for a lot of stuff-- but image quality is something one can become increasingly picky about. This lens has a learning curve, so try it out. Take 100 pictures and then another 200 if you need to. It is often sold in a bundle with the full-frame D610, but a kit lens it is not. Remember to exhale and hold before clicking the shutter-- hold perfectly still... you don't have to in order to take a good shot, but you really should in order to make it a great picture. I haven't even got the bill yet for this lens, and I'm already sold-- this one is a keeper!

I use the lens on a Nikon D90 and the images are very good and sharp. The light responce is also very good and you can take nice images in average light without using the flash. The lens is sturdy and still utilizes the metal ring coupling to the camera. the new cheaper lenses have a plastic coupling that many reviewers complained that it breaks. I am realy surprized than Nikon that used to be an ikon of sturdiness started using plastic parts in such a sensitive area. as I said this lens still uses the good old metal ring. Only negative about this lens is the slight bluryness in the zoom range: 24-35 mm. but it is common in this type of lens and in this price range unless you buy a much more expansive lens. over 35 milimeters, the lens is very sharp. Zoom ring is a bit too stiff but it is better than being to loose and lens sliding out each time camera is pointing down.

Variable Aperture = Very Average Lens

I wanted a zoom lens that I could snap on and use for walking around shooting but primarily landscape shooting. I chose this lens mostly because it was a full frame lens and it was readily available. After buying this lens (with the Nikon D610) I returned it- after one day. Here is why: 1) it felt cheap and not very sturdy. This was a turnoff right out of the box. 2) I HATED the variable aperture on the lens. I ended up buying a Tamron 24-75mm 2.8f (no variable apeture). I shoot in manual all the time in a wide range of conditions. The variable aperture really slowed me down. 3) not a very good lens for the price. 4) it did noting (in my opinion) very well. If you are just getting into photography or stepping up your camera equipment from crop to full frame this lens seems like a good choice. But I do some more research and find a better option.

Not really a review of the lens as I returned it without using it. I have the 28-300 lens but it is very heavy and I was looking for something to use as an "all around" lens without the bulk. This "open box" lens was $200 off and rated as excellent. I assumed it was a lens that someone had returned. Nope, it was from a display model. It was missing the lens cap and was absolutely filthy. It also had two pinhead sized white spots inside the lens behind the glass. No idea how dust could make it inside like that. How a lens with that defect could be rated as excellent is beyond me. Luckily I was able to return the lens to my local Best Buy and get a full refund instead of the store credit that they wanted to give me. Kudos to Christie in customer service.

This lens is very sharp. Especially stopped down to F8. The VR allows for handheld shots down to 1/3 shutter speed. I've even got a few sharp images at 1/2 second. Distortion is easily corrected in photoshop when shooting at 24mm. Despite not having a very wide aperture, it's a nice walking around lens that delivers sharp photos at a fraction of the price. The VR helps with low light situations and at night with a tripod stopped down to f8 delivers beautiful contrast pictures.

Great value as a kit lens for full frame cameras like D600/D610, with very useful zoom range as walkabout, general use lens and quite decent image quality. Not in the realm of a 24-70, of course, and you shouldn't expect that at 30% of the price. Also relatively slow at apertures available, so stick to strong lighting. Light, which is good... but feels not terribly robust, which is less good. Mine worked fine in moderate usage. Probably nicely useful on crop (DX) cameras with 36-130 equivalent zoom, but I haven't personally tried that.

Needed a versatile mid range lens that zooms so I would not have to change lenses for every day use. It is a great go to lens that will capture excellent photos. It is made for the "FX" format, but works perfectly with "DX" as well. I own a DX camera, but hope to upgrade to an FX camera and wanted a lens that would work for both.

I NEEDED ANOTHER ZOOM FOR MY SECOND AND OLDER CAMERA, THE D7100. I ALREADY HAD THE NIKON 24-120 F4, ON D7200, BUT DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY AGAIN. SO I TOOK A GAMBLE WITH THIS LENS, AND YOU KNOW WHAT, ITS REALLY PRETTY GOOD. IT'S MUCH LIGHTER THAN THE 24-120MM, WHICH IS NICE AND FROM WHAT I CAN SEE ITS SHARP IN CENTER FRAME, ESPECIALLY STOPPING DOWN TO F8. CORNERS SEEM SHARP ON THE LENS I GOT..BUT THAT COULD VARY FROM LENS TO LENS

Looking for a versatile lens for portraits and wide angle use, this is great. I’m mainly a portrait photographer but needed a lens for some real estate shots. This lens let me capture the wide angle shots for one job while being able to reuse the lens for portraits. Works well with the D850!

I use this lens nearly every day, outdoors for nature shots in the morning, informal portraits and event photography at night. Crystal clear images and fast auto-focus make this an excellent lens to own. It is my go to lens for sunrise shots and winter landscapes, extended to 85mm gives me a great tight shot when I need it. And close focus too.

I bought this lens during a trip to replace a Nikon 24-120mm f/4 that I dropped and damaged. I needed to fill the focal length gap in my bag left by the out of commission 24-120. I was impressed with the image quality of the 24-85. It's a extremely good lens and only half the price of the 24-120. I'll be getting the 24-120 repaired but I'll be keeping the 24-85 as a backup.

I got this as my backup for the same lens and have since used it extensively. It has a very good range, great sharpness and color. While it is not technically the 'best' lens in my quiver, it is the one that has been used for most of my favorite pictures, so I do consider it my best. I just wish it could go down to f2.8 as this price. That will be wonderful for All Nikon users.

Bought this to fill in the lower end of the zoom range, and it works great. I find that I have to give it a little exposure compensation (+1) with a 160 ISO for most shots to get the exposure where it should be, but the images are nice and sharp. Not great in low light, but it's a sub $500 lens, that works exactly as I expected,

I purchased this lens to use on my D810 as a medium zoom. I will have too say that I have not been impressed by this lens at all. It is not very sharp and nothing that I have done to get the focus sharp has worked. I use it periodically now when I need to shoot composites otherwise it is relegated to the back of my camera bag.

The lens has very good results on a D300s and excellent results on a D7000. While it isn't the sharpest offering available for full-frame, it's the most economical, making it the go-to option for someone wanting to get a full-frame lens without paying the premium price for a professional lens.

This is a good lens general purpose lens. It is definitely worth the price. Not much else to say about it. It's not overly fast... not also not too slow. build quality is nice... it feels like a quality lens. I'm very happy with picture quality. It feels nice in the hand... the weight is good.

I purchased the 24-85mm lens about a month ago and I must say it was an excellent choice. It is lightweight and with VR it is perfect for vacations and shooting around town. The price is reasonable and at f/3.5-4.5G I still get great pictures. Paired with my D7100 body I have about a 100mm reach.
