Good lens, but slow in focusing.

Like may other reviews that I've read about the speed for auto focusing, it is true. If you are used to the newer focusing speed of other Nikon lenses, you'll find this lens painfully slow. So, don't shoot fast scenes with this lens. The f1.4 is there when you need it. The lens is very sharp, once you get it dialed in with your camera.

I've had this lens for approximately two weeks and have been taking it out every night for some shots at a night time tropical bar. With the mixture of colors and low light mood, this lens is able to capture my subject with no issue. It is a little slow to focus sometimes but what do you expect, it's 1.4. Regardless this lens will produce tack sharp and vivid imagery if you utilize it properly! Get your hands dirty!

My copy is not focusing with my D610. Super slow focus and hardly ever got the focus right and it felt it's stuck and can't pass certain range until I manually twist the focus ring to adjust that stuck up area. I live so far away. I live on Guam. And the shipment takes 2 months normally so I don't want to go through the motion to ship it back and get a new one in another 4 months back and force. I just choose to keep it maybe later on sell it as a defect lens for $50.

Here is what I like about the Nikon 50mm 1.4 lens: It is short and light to carry. It looks great on my D7000. The manual focusing ring is smooth and the long travel allows for very easy, fine focusing adjustments. The Auto/Manual focus switch works well. This lens is as sharp as anything else I have ever owned. @@@@@@@@ but not at f1.4) Here is what I am not so happy with: The lens is the slowest to achieve auto focus I have ever owned. Images taken at f1.4 look like I had some kind of medium strength "soft focus" filter on the lens.
