This is one of the best prime lenses Anyone can use for a first time prime lens user. Also if you are a student like me, this will save you a lot of money and get high quality images from nikon dslr's. Although sony lenses are more of the high technology generation, the nikon Af-s 1.4g lens is one comparison that will not disappoint.

Wanted a prime lens for my full frame Nikon that had an f-stop under f2.8. This was an excellent compromise between the, relatively, cheap f1.8 50mm and the very expensive f1.2. Autofocus is fast and sharp. The f1.4 is excellent for those shallow depth of field shots and in low light.

Crystal clear but a steady hand is required. Not a great lens for beginners but if you have a bit of experience you'll be very happy with this lens

    Get the f/1.8G

I gave away my 50mm f/1.8G Nikon to a friends kid interested in photography about 6 months ago. I had missed that lens ever since. When I upgraded, I decided to go with the 1.4 instead. It is no where near the worth the jump for cost. Get the cheaper lens. I shoot a D850 and there is honestly so little difference in my shots that I kick myself for not saving the money every time I load up this lens. Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice lens. If I never had the 1.8, I would probably love it. But, comparing the two just makes this thing way overpriced. Don't do what I did.

The focal length is a little bit larger than I need for a lot of things with my DX camera. I've used it a bunch and it is super sharp and I really like to be able to manual focus with a flip of the switch on the lens. It doesn't have VR, but I hardly use VR anyway.

I just updraded from the 50mm 1.8g that I had for 6 years. I’m still getting used to the 1.4g, it’a definitely different to shoot with but overall amazing! I love how crisp and clean the photos come out. The camera feels tough too. I’m happy!

While looking at camera options and deciding on a Nikon package, the rep assisting showed me a picture that he took with this lense. It was a waterfall and you could actually see the bubbles in the water. I was sold.

I bought this lens after renting lenses a couple of times from a local camera shop. The kit lens that came with my Nikon D7500 is excellent, but didn't have a wide enough aperture for indoor candid shots of the kiddos. This lens does a great job.
