I've never owned a fixed/static lens, but knew I wanted one to get that "boket" effect they talk about. It does that and brings in a lot of light, too. After learning how to pick what focus setting you want, you'll learn how to get sharp pics that start to "blur" at the edges. 50mm means you will stand 3-6 feet away, but that's not a problem.

This lense is hard to focus at 1.8, but works well and takes sharp photos otherwise. It was a good purchase and a good lens to add to your kit!

I would recommend this lens as a first choice for beginners or hobbist looking to move away from the 18-55 that came with the camera. Crisp and clear subjects. Great lens for portraits.

Perfect lens for portraits and indoor candid shots that you don't want to use a flash for. Great lens option for the amateur or professional photographer. Affordable price. Only problem I've noticed is that you have to be quite far back from your subject to make them fit into the frame. This is just something to get used to though.

I have a Nikon D7200 and D3400, I have used this lens on both and the picture quality comes out smooth like butter on both of these DX bodies. This a perfect first prime lens, great fro street photography and really good for portraits.

This lens is awesome! I’m a beginner and just purchased my first DSLR camera. One of my photographer friends suggested I start out with a 50mm lens. I’m very pleased with my purchase. It’s compact, very affordable, and the photos are incredible!

I absolutely love this lens! I definitely upped my photography game as a beginner. I have two zoom lenses but I couldn’t get the bokeh effect I was wanting. This prime lens has helped me effectively get the bokeh effect I’m looking for in my photographs.

This lens is incredible! I'm actually using it more than the stock 18-55 lens that came with the camera. No zoom, which means that I have to physically get closer or farther from my target, but the image is sharp and detailed. Definitely would recommend this lens! Everyone should have it in their bag always.

Bought this lens for my Nikon D7100, which is a DX camera, but this FX lens used on a DX camera is about 85mm and the Bokeh this lens produces is simply amazing ! In portrait photography a blurred background ( Bokeh) puts all the emphasis on the in focus subject, ie: the person your photographing !
