I initially purchased the 50mm because it is a good lens to use in low lighting. Great clarity and love the bokeh on many of my photos.

I got this as a Gift from my Wife!. I always wanted this one badly, I was debating with 50mm 1.8D that was $50 lower in price. If you are looking for good low lighting photos, this one is for you. Bokeh effect is very nice. You can focus on particular object and blur the background. It is a must have lens, if you really want to capture some nice pictures without relying on post editing software. I got this on Thanksgiving sale for $179.99 normally it cost $219.99.

This is a wonderful camera lens to keep in your bag for portraits. It’s light weight and very tiny and takes very sharp images. I’m also happy it didn’t cost too much either. Overall a wonderful lens.

I went back and forth between the Nikon 50 mm and 35 mm prime lens and chose this one after reading Ken Rockwell's review of the 50 mm (Ken is the authority on everything Nikon) After using the kit 18-55 lens, I wanted to see for myself why most serious photographers suggest this as a "must have" lens and it didn't disappoint. Stunning sharpness and beautiful blurred backgrounds on all my shots!

The next step lens is a large step in $. This is a great lens but not for beginners because you have to work a little. I have grown you really like this lens. It's challenging though. I prob should have started with a 35mm prime.

I was convinced my older 50mm 1.8D lens was up to the task, and the challenges of being used on a D800 body. It's a good lens, but the new 50mm 1.8G lens is better. I think its sharper, and the contrast is better, especially at 1.8 aperture. People claim the focus is not as fast but I believe it is comparable to screw type D lenses. This lens will work on any body, and that's going to be very important for those that own bodies such as the 3100, the 5100 series. The older D lens just wont work on the bodies that have less features. This 50mm 1.8G lens is more modern, and seems to work better with the current full frame Nikon cameras. I would recommend this lens as a starter lens for anyone purchasing a Nikon camera body, regardless if its a DX body or the FX type. By the way, I used to buy all my photo equipment from one of the retailers in New York. Several times in the past year I was not able to get the lens from that retailer-backordered! So far I have purchased a D800 body, the 50mm 1.8G lens, and the 85mm 1.8G lens from Best Buy. I order online and the product is almost always in my hands within a week. They have always given me great service and so far get the product to me in a timely manner.

This is an extremely versatile lens that takes excellent photos. I use it on my Nikon D5500 and couldn't be happier with the results. The depth of field is incredible and the bokeh is beautiful. I've used it for everything from shooting indoor portraits to outdoor scenes and it has never disappointed. The AF is extremely fast as well. I would even say that this lens is better than the f/1.4g which is double the cost. Save your money and buy this one instead!

I waited months before finally buying this lens. I wish I would have purchased it when I first bought my Nikon D3300. The results of this lens are astonishing pictures with just the right amount of blur surrounding the subject. It takes great low light photos when using a tripod and the Nikon remote control. I am quite sure you will not regret adding this lens to your equipment.

I am a fairly new photographer, but this is my 6th lens. I have been trying several prime lenses and I was amazed with the image quality of the 50mm. The pictures are sharp and clear. I loved the blurred background aspect of this lens and the way it focuses on the subject/individual. I mainly use the 50mm lens for varies portrait shots. It definitely makes a difference with portraits. I love this lens!!

Very nice portrait lens for a price that's right, compared to Nikon's expensive zoom lenses, like the 24-70 F/2.8, which costs over $1000. With a crop-frame (DX) camera (e.g. D3000 and D5000 series), this effectively gives you 75 mm magnification, excellent for portraits, with a very shallow depth-of-field by virtue of the large maximum aperture. Very fast lens for indoor shots without flash also. Fantastic lens for the price, and so much better than the 18-55 or 55-200 kit lenses!

If you want to do photography the right way, you need to get this lens. It has changed the entire way I shoot. Everything has changed since I've gotten this lens. The background is perfectly blurred as it should be with every single photo. Also you really cannot beat the price that Best Buy offers

I'm an amateur photographer who's been taking pictures of my children and their teammates playing sports. The kit lens that came with my DSLR wasn't enough to take good pictures indoors for fast sports like basketball. I did some research on camera forums and a prime lens of either 35 mm or 50 mm was suggested. OMG, the picture quality is night and day. The cost is also reasonable!! I should have bought it a LONG time ago!!!

Overall this is great prime lens. At f1.8 it nice smooth background but bit soft in the center. However at F2.8 and after its incredibly sharp, Autofocus is fast enough for portraits and most street photography, but I wouldn't try this on anything fast moving. This is on a Nikon D610, D750 and D780.

A friend recommended this to use for family photos. The result is amazing over the stock lens that came with my camera. The creamy bokeh it produces for photos is amazing. Just keep in mind you might have to step a bit further back to get photos just right. I don't think this lens will come off my camera for awhile... ♥️

What a lens this is for a starter like me. I started recently with a kit lens and got an 18-55mm with fstop of 3.5 to 5.6. When the light is low, i could not quite the pictures but then there comes this fast lens 50mill f1.8 to capture enough light with superb sharpness and quality. You will clearly see the difference it makes. If you are bokah fan, this is the best to get good bokah affects...

Great prime lens for my needs. I am an amateur photographer looking to have a prime lens and this was the one for me. The lens is Full Frame which I use on my D5100 and it works great, especially in low light. Highly suggest owning a prime lens for portrait work and low light work. Excited to see how this lens will produce bokeh effects.

I had a project coming up that required a good lowlight lens, and with time being an issue I went ahead and grabbed this one. It not only worked out great for that particular project but I've used it several times since and it's been an amazing little piece to have in the toolbox. If you're in need of a good 50mm lens (and we should all have one) for your Nikon, you can't do much better than this lens at this price.

Really great lens! Takes beautiful pictures and gives you the beautiful look that you really want when you get a dSLR camera. Since I’ve gotten this lens I haven’t taken it off. Love it and glad I didn’t have to break the bank. The auto focus is great most of the time, and whenever I have an issue with it I just switch right over to manually focusing and the sharpness is lovely.

I needed a good quality lens for taking Christmas photos that would do better then the kit lens that came with my Nikon D3300. The lens is sharp and fast. I have used it to do 19 photo shoots of families and children. I love the ability to shoot at F/1.8!!! It's a great lens for just at $200. I should have bought this awhile ago. It's an Fx lens that when on my Crop Sensor D3000 gives me 75mm which is great for portraits!
