I must say this is the best lens I've put on my D7100. The photos are extremely sharp yet elegant and beautiful looking . I would trade this camera just for this lens. So amazing. Only downside is there's no ED elements in there is chromatic abrasions .

Super sharp but without the VR it's not a walk around lens. With a tripod I can get some very clear photos.

The Nikon 85mm f/1.4 lens is a popular choice among photographers for its excellent performance in portrait photography and low-light conditions. It offers a wide maximum aperture of f/1.4, allowing for exceptional background separation and beautiful bokeh, which is highly desirable in portrait photography.
When it comes to portraits, the 85mm focal length is considered to be ideal for capturing flattering images with a natural perspective. The lens produces a slightly compressed look, which helps in isolating the subject and achieving a pleasing aesthetic. The wide aperture of f/1.4 allows for shooting in low-light situations without the need for high ISO settings, reducing noise and maintaining image quality.
In terms of autofocus performance, the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 lens typically features a fast and accurate autofocus system, which is beneficial for capturing moving subjects like basketball players. The wide maximum aperture allows for faster shutter speeds, reducing motion blur and ensuring crisp images even in challenging lighting conditions.
The lens is renowned for its optical quality, delivering sharpness and excellent detail rendition. It often exhibits minimal chromatic aberration and distortion, resulting in clean and accurate images. The lens construction is typically sturdy and durable, with weather sealing to protect against dust and moisture, making it suitable for various shooting environments.
One aspect to consider is the lens's weight and size. The 85mm f/1.4 lens can be relatively large and heavy, which might be a factor to consider for those seeking a more lightweight setup.
Overall, the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 lens is highly regarded for its exceptional performance in portrait photography, offering excellent low-light capabilities, beautiful bokeh, and sharpness. It can also be suitable for capturing basketball action in dimly lit environments.

I have owned a few lenses and I have to say this is the best lens to ever use! This lens has not left my camera body since I got it. A bit pricey but totally worth it!!! Did a photo shoot recently and the images were stunning. Absolutely love it.

This is a rather expensive lens so it's not for everybody but it produces an amazing result. I bought it to do portraits with and have not been disappointed. focuses fast on my D810 and the bokeh is beautiful. There is a lot of glass here so it's a heavy lens as well.

The Nikkor 85mm f1.4 is a classic portrait lens and short telephoto lens also good for landscapes, travel and street photography. It captures colors beautifully and produces outstanding bokeh for subject isolation. Highly recommended. Best Buy shipped it to my local store for pick-up. I may have a front-focusing issue and will have to deal directly with Nikon for warranty service, since an exchange lens wasn't available.

I use with a D4 body. I waited a year and finally got this lens. I usually have my camera set on manual, but on auto it has extremely fast focus! Depth of field is also excellent. If you can afford it, get it!

I purchased the 85 mm 1.8 lens for much lesser price. Of course a week after purchasing and starting to fall in love with. I get the ping, the 1.4 was back in stock of course. Of course I purchased it after looking at the buy now button for 5 minutes aka refresh. Was I happy I did. It’s $1000 more than the 1.8 and worth every penny! I’m using it with the D750 and works fantastic.

I have no complaints with this lens! I use it was more than my 50mm. And I love my 50! It's not as good as the 50mm in low light but I haven't found that to be a big problem. I just bump up the ISO a little bit more.
