very sharp great bokeh this is one of my favorites

It's only recently that I began to add some prime lenses to my collection of Nikon glass. Should have done so sooner! Great lens that is useful in a lot more cases than I originally assumed. Wish the lens was a couple of hundred dollars less, but then again that's Nikon pricing. Strongly recommend for your full frame Nikon bodies.

I own a range of Nikon lenses and typically only buy the brand name for my Nikon camera. The 85mm is by far the lens I prefer for portrait shots. The picture are crisp and sharp, the depth of field is outstanding and the colors are fabulous! Worth every penny, and the price is very good!

I been looking into this lense for a while .. I wasn't to sure if this could be for me . But I must tell you that this lense is awesome ! Sharpest pictures ever .. Now that's my go to lense .. No regrets ...!! Love it

I did a lot of research prior to buying this lens. The general consensus was that this is a great one of portrait and medium-distance action and landscape photography. It looks and feels great with my Nikon D5300. I'm not sure it's possible to take a bad photo with this lens. (Unless you try really hard.)

Pretty simple...it is a great prime lens. It works great with my FX and DX format cameras. Just a wonderful all around intermediate prime lens. Is it the best 85mm on the market? Probably not. But for the price it is outstanding and a great bang for the buck lens.

Great for portrait photography. Purchased and realized it can be used in soo many different settings and elements. Price point is great considering Nikon glass for F mount can get really pricy.

I can’t say enough good things about this lens! Truly you can’t get a better portrait lens for the price! A lot of reviews online advised me to get this over the 1.4 and I’m happy I did to help save some money before I upgraded after it made its money back!

Fantastic image quality and outstanding value! Only negative is the longer minimum focusing distance as compared to some of the other Nikon lenses — but those come at a significantly higher price.

Fun little lens with awesome crystal clear shots, with the combo deal, it was well worth it.

On my Nikon D810 the lens creates good color saturation and surprised me in low light situations. The price point makes this a must have lens.

I had some initial doubts about is focus sharpness. I was taking sample pictures in my home under normal fluorescent lights with D750. Switching to portrait mode resulted in very sharp pictures at f2.8. Then switched to Aperture priority and tried shots with internal flash using both AF-GRP and AF-S. With internal flash results are very good starting at f1.8 all the away to f10 (ISO varying from 1000-8000). Without flash under indoor lighting conditions sharpness started at f2.2. After f10 there was a drop in clarity. Finally also checked lens calibration with Spyder Lenscal and it showed no fine tuning needed at this time with my camera. Background blur is good till f2.8. Note that I have not really field tested the lens.

$400 bucks for a wonderful portrait lens. Boken...YES! Soft focus... YES! I love my portrait images with this lens.
