Customers have good things to say about the image quality, macro capabilities, and ease of use of the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Macro Lens, frequently praising its performance in close-up shots and portrait photography. However, some customers noted that the autofocus can be inconsistent, particularly at close range, and that the lens is relatively large and heavy. The price point was also mentioned as a potential drawback for some. Despite these minor drawbacks, many users consider it a high-quality lens.

Purchased this lens to replace an AF Micro Nikkor 60mm 1:2.8 D lens that was being used on a Nikon D7500. It is larger and heavier but definitely gives sharper images. I decided that to upgrade rather than wish for better pictures. I strongly recommend this lens and the safety of buying it from Best Buy rather than a risky discounter.

Have had the lens for a few months. Big learning curve. Better detailed close ups than the nikon macro lens. Hand held works, but you have to be very steady, hold your breath and take lots of shots. Depth of field is tricky. Moving back from a shot is sometimes necessary for crisp results of larger areas of subject. The tripod combined with the cord shutter release is good but does not guarantee a perfect result. However, when it gets the shot right, it is Great. Very exciting and worth the effort.

I debated for a long time which macro lens to buy. I ended up choosing this one over the rest for several factors. One, it is a Nikon and I shoot with Nikon bodies so it was the full compatibility factor. I have a Tamron and a Sigma lens . I also have the docks for them. It is confusing for me to use. Having to use the dock to adjust focus to me is a step that is complicated and requires much more time than doing it in camera. Both of my bodies have built in auto focus fine tune. Two, the build quality of Nikon lenses has always been a given for a very long time. This lens feels solid. Third party lenses are getting much better but some still arent trust worthy. Three, the image quality of this lens precedes itself. There are others that also have the same reputation but this is one trusted by many professionals and that is a good enough reason for me. Fourth, the 90mm focal length of the Tamron just wasnt quite long enough to effectively do what I was looking to do with the lens. I really wanted the 200 f4, but it was well out of my price range, too big and too heavy. This lens is not a lightweight but it is lighter than some of my other lnses. I am very happy with my purchase and if I had to do it again I would make the same decision.

The best macro lens on the market! This is an all around lens as it can be both a portrait and macro lens. Extremely sharp and very good details. Only bad thing about this is that the Aperture is variable and not at constant f2.8.

I love the colors and the pictures from this lens. However the VR when turned on is noisy and you can hear a steady hum while the camera is focussing until the shutter is released and the shutter releases with an audible clunk. I checked online and a lot of users have reported this. Nikon had no answers. The pictures are tack sharp and there is no noise if you do not engage the VR. I have other VR lenses including the new 70-200 but have never heard any noise from those lenses. For Macro I don't need the VR anyway will try and exchange the lens and see if the new one has the same problem

Love this lens for macro shots. I am enjoying the ability to take close up photos of flowers and bugs. Extremely detailed photos which expand nicely when blown up for printing and hanging on walls. Worth the investment.
