Customers are saying
Customers frequently mention the exceptional image quality and impressive zoom capabilities of the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Telephoto Zoom Lens. Many also praise its ease of use and effective vibration reduction. However, some users note that the lens is somewhat heavy and its performance can be affected in low-light conditions. A few also mention that the price point may be a consideration for some buyers.

Solid zoom lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A nice lens that has good reach, is reasonably sharp and is able to focus quickly on my D7100. It does suffer in poor lighting conditions but then it doesn't claim to be able to compete with other lenses that are 4x the price.

So much fun!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this with the D90 package deal, first DLSR camera I've owned. I really don't have any tech information to share , just wanted to express how happy I am with this lense. Would recommend with package deal. I attached a couple pics to show the zoom. These are the full pics, no cropping.

Great lens for sporting events.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens gets amazing action pictures at the sporting events we attend. We are able to get great pictures of the kids playing soccer with no blur. The lens is heavier than some, but not too heavy that it is uncomforable to wear around the neck or hard to use. It is definitely not a lens for close up pictures, but for sporting events and distance pictures (soccer field distance) it is great.

Great Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this lens almost a year now and love it. I performs well enough that it has replaced the 70-200 f2.8 as my long zoom of choice. If you use this in nearly any condition short of low light it performs well, focuses fast and gives outstanding images. Lenses like this are why I went to Nikon. If you shoot in low light a lot consider a pro lens with large aprature but if you are a normal user this lens delivers tack sharp images with or without the VR turned on. Those who have written the lens is "soft" need to work on their technique or grab a point and shoot because 300mm lenses don't get any sharper than this at any price. I know because I've shot many others. The photo of the robin nestlings was shot through a tiny opening in a hedge in deep shadow on autofocus with tricky backlighting and high ISO. That is great focus performance. It is easy to take pictures of long distance objects, blow it up and look at it but to get close and fill the frame with color and detail is the true test of a lens and this one just flat out works. Stop reading and buy it!

Great lens for professionals
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fairly good lens. Its good part is that it is sharp, with a wide spectrum, however it has some shortcomings: 1- The F number is not low enough for a low light /low ISO photography. 2- It is lighter than Canon 70-200 I had before, thus it is less stable. 3- It is slow in focusing, especially in low light. In general I prefer the Canon lenses, which I used to use before I switched to Nikon system, but for its price I would say it is a good one to have.

Top notch zoom lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the lens today and starting taking pictures 5 minutes after opening the package. It is so easy to use. The focus, even at 300mm, was fast and crisp and quiet on my D5000 camera. I took the dove picture first and then used the lens to take pictures of my niece playing softball. Example pictures are loaded. This is simply a great lens.

Get up close for sports
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens works great for baseball. Gets you close to the action, and VR makes handheld shots easy even at 300 mm. In fact, I frequently do additional cropping, and photos are clear and sharp. I have also used it for Nature photography, even with high crop, pictures are excellent.

Great lens at a great price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased a Nikon D5200 camera for a Christmas present for my adult daughter and Nikon/Best Buy had a holiday special offering $200 off of the purchase of this lens with the camera purchase. I couldn't pass that deal up and got this lens for my 11 year old son to use with his Nikon D3200 camera he got for Christmas in 2013. He has used this lens several times already and is looking forward to taking it on vacation this summer. I would not normally buy a lens of this quality for such a young photographer but with the special offer, it was a no-brainer. He has already gotten several amazing shoots with it.

great sports lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used this lens for shooting surfing and it works great, I use it on a Nikon D5300 so I get a little more range out of it. Not the greatest in low light situations obviously being a 4.5-5.6 but in the daylight is a great buy.

Awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great, but it is heavy and I don't think taking pictures without a tripod is all too easy. But, the pictures I have taken with the tripod are great.

Amazing price, definitely a Best Buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn't even looking for this lens when I got it. I knew I wanted it, but I had no idea I was going to stumble across it at Best Buy. I saw the lens in the open-box section, and decided I'd ask the manager if she wanted to give me a slightly better price on the lens. The lens was $700 new, $440 open box, and she gave me ANOTHER 50% off, making this amazing lens only $220!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, the lens is amazing. It's definitely a MUCH needed step up from the 50-200 that I had, and is super sharp for such a high zoom lens. For this price, who can beat it? The Norwalk team is the best!

Excellent zoom lens for wildlife and sports!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was searching for a zoom lens for wildlife photography, and decided to purchase this one based on my experience using this particular model at work. This lens has a great reputation, and the particular one I purchased has far exceeded my expectations. I have read many complaints about the cost and weight of this lens. My opinion is that you get what you pay for when it comes to lenses. This one is a great value for a high quality package. I would purchase again, and have already recommended this model to friends. I have captured well over 5000 images with this lens, and the quality is outstanding.
