Awesome lens. Sharp. Great wide angle. I tried the cheaper sigma and this is worth the money difference!

As a professional photographer I carry a wide array of lenses with me, but this one is truly one of my favorites! I love wide angle zoom lenses because of their ability to capture the overall scene and give the viewer an overview of what is happening and this one does exactly that. Whether I'm shooting a large rally (at 17mm) or a wedding (at 35mm) this lens does a spectacular job, even in low light situations. With any Nikon full frame (FX) camera, such as my D800 this lens allows for the the production of truly stunning images, without the hassle of having the hassle of change lenses that prime lenses produce. Perhaps more importantly it is incredibly durable, as one of only a handful of Nikon lenses with an all metal barrel that will easily survive the inevitable bangs that are inevitable when carrying a camera around for hours on end. It is also relatively light, eliminating the need for VR (one more thing to break) and allowing for more comfortable transport. For any pro, semi-pro and even many prosumers this lens is a must have! For prosumers with a FX body, the 16-35 f4 may be an attractive (i.e. less expensive) alternative and while Nikon's latest cameras can take marvelous images with it, the plastic barrel makes it much more vulnerable to damage and you are paying for VR on a lens that you don't need on a lens of that size and weight. NOTE: For prosumers and consumers using medium format (DX) cameras, I can't in good conscience recommend this lens. Don't get me wrong, it will still allow you to produce stunning images, however given the crop factor I say save your money and buy the 17-55 f2.8 instead.

not too wide angle and has overlaps with 24-70mm f2.8.

this is very expensive and sometimes doesn't "sync" with contacts on my d850. would like to have Nikon look at and troubleshoot. great pics when it does work.

I am new to the photography world so it took me a long time to figure out what lens I wanted to buy. I mainly like to take landscape pictures so I knew I needed a wide lens. I could have got one of the big 4 (14-24mm, 24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm) but I thought about getting something cheaper for my first 'professional' lens which led me to the 17-35mm. Like I said I am new but even I can work this lens well enough to get good pictures; I use a Nikon D5200 and I am really happy with my photos.
