I have couple professional DSLR cameras and the latest iPhones. The reason buying this camera is to use this light weight camera when traveling outside the country. My DSLR are very heavy, my iPhone takes good photo but expect this will be my backup camera. After purchased and tested it, don’t like it at all! My iPhone takes much better pictures than this. Hard to get auto focus if not enough light. Can’t adjust apperture, shutter speed and ISO manually. The flash is not automatic, it is manual popping it by hand. Don’t have burst mode. Couple things I want to point out is the weight is light comparing to the DSLR camera, inexpensive, display screen is movable, uses 4x AA batteries (in case out of batteries, you can simply pick up 4 AA batteries from 711), connects to smartphone and uses smartphone GPS and date for the photo metadata. I don’t like buy and return. Although I don’t like it, I will keep it. I should buy a light weight DSLR camera instead.

    Great camera, still no app

I bought this camera because I loved my daughter's which is the previous model. I held out and spent an extra $100 for the new Bluetooth connectivity to my iPhone since she had battery issues with the wifi on previous model. I loved the phone/ remote feature and bought it before our cross country family national parks trip and my sisters wedding in June. Great camera but unfortunately (despite what the box said) there was no IOS (iPhone) app...I was hopeful that I would still be able to have those features bc it said it would be available in "summer 2016"....now it says August, but August is half way done and our trip is done. The sales associate should have told me this at time of purchase. I would have likely bought the older and cheaper model so I could have used the remote and upload features on our trip and at the wedding. Camera is of good quality and pictures are good but because of false advertising and prolonged wait for the app I cannot leave a five star review

It takes great pictures. I love everything about this camera except that the Snapbridge app for iOS is not available yet. I specifically bought this camera for the bluetooth and wifi features. Unfortunately I can't use these features because you have to be able to download the Snapbridge app first. I give five stars because the camera itself is really good. I give Nikon or Apple zero stars. One or both of them is responsible for not having the app ready when the camera was released.

I was shopping for a camera that was more than an ultra compact point & shoot, but not quite a DLSR. Picture quality a must. The ability to use the Snapbridge function for immediate social media posting was a seller! As this is being used for business purposes. While the initial set up for Snapbridge with my iPhone 6 was tedious; it is so worth it! I called the tech support line twice to assist with the program as the firmware on the camera needed to be updated first. But now it works like a dream! Love this camera and would recommend it!

New COOLPIX to replace older version (P510)

    Posted .

This camera was bought as a replacement for the Nikon COOLPIX P510... As such, the camera works just as reliably as the old one, but it does have a few differences that I appreciate as newer technology. The newer tech, however, just doesn't perform as good as the old, and, doesn't have the "feel" of quality (weight, lens movement, etc.) as the old one. The older P510 has held up under extreme conditions on many vacations, work related environments, and general hobby type photography for about 10yrs. While I have high hopes that this new COOLPIX B500 will perform at the same level, for as many years, I do have doubts (just based on my early experience with it on vacation and hobby photography). Time will tell..... Beyond my early concerns regarding quality issues ("feels" cheap, lens movement is slower, auto focus has a hard time locking on subject, optical zoom is lower/not as clear and image stabilizer seems less able than the older one), the camera does have many positive reviews and is consider by many hobbyist type photographers, like myself, to be a good quality/bang for your buck "choice" for replacing an older, nearly worn out version of the COOLPIX line.

    Iphone Connection issues

I had a great experience with the sales rep when purchasing the camera at the time of purchase he seem knowledgeable with the products. I was able to get it home and tested the camera quality which was very good quality during the day and night time. I would give the picture quality a high rating. The problem and where I would rank it low at is it not being compatible with Iphones. The directions do not mention this important information in them as a matter of fact you can download the Snap Bridge Nikon Utility App on your iphone but if you want it to connect forget about it. I took it to the Geek squad rep and they were not able to figure it out. Finally I called Nikon only to be told that it is not compatible at this time and they are working on it. Of course they blamed Apple and I am sure if I called apple they would blame Nikon. If you want a quality camera and own an android phone or if you are not worried about the Wifi connection I would recommend this camera. If you own an iphone and want wifi than I would stay away from the camera. One last tidbit...Nikon should be noting this information on there product but sadly they are not.

Bought for my 17 year old daughter. The pictures are INCREDIBLE. Great clarity, even on all auto settings, good size, big enough to hold and use, without being too big and clumsy. Little rubber to give some grip, finish is nice. She loves the fact the screen can tilt down so she can use angles and see what she's shooting. Battery life is good, and it takes effortless pictures!

I bought this camera at meijer's I love how it takes video's of the moon I wanted to get a camera that was cheap but good enough to take pictures of the moon other than that I can't use the Wi-Fi on it for my phone but I don't really care about that but I do love the camera so far
