Not for someone who knows cameras

I am an avid amateur photographer. I have used everything from and old Kodak Brownie camera to a Nikon D3 DSLR. My most recent camera broke, just before going to a wedding for my niece. I made an impulse camera purchase and I really regretted it. I bought the Nikon Coolpix B500 camera expecting to get a serious camera. If you know anything about photography, beyond using auto mode, this is not that camera for you. While it has a lot of different modes, the one thing it will not allow you to do is adjust the shooting parameters. There is no Shutter Priority Mode, no Aperture Priority Mode and definitely no Manual Mode. If one of their presets doesn't work for you, you are forced to pick another one and hope it does. Over 50% of my photos were not worth trying to save in Photoshop. When you spend $250 for a camera, I expect a lot more than what the Nikon B500 offered. In the end, I spent another $150 and bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ80 which will more than do the job.

Does NOT connect to IOS (Apple)

I am very sad to report that I will be returning this camera because it does not have the advertised functionality of being able to connect to my iPhone. I worked with Geek Squad and then Nikon customer service who both told me that contrary to the manual, online propaganda and the information printed on the box, this camera will not connect to an iPhone because "Apple has not created the app like they were supposed to." I really liked everything else about the camera, but the main reason I selected it was for ease of photo transfer, which it doesn't have. I would be nice if both Best Buy and Nikon were upfront about this, would have saved me a lot of time and heartache.

    Can't even enjoy the camera

Well I read so many good reviews about this camera and I'm so upset because I can't even use it because I have a iPhone which makes no sense. There is no update software for apple devices therefore I can't set the camera up to use it. The first one I bought I thought it was something wrong with it and I called customer service for her to tell me oh it's not working return it. So I waste my time to go back up there to exchange it for another one. For it to do the samething. I call customer service again! Finally he tells me that it's no way I can use to camera with my iPhone and have to set it up using another smart device. This is ridiculous. That is something they should tell you before selling it. Makes no sense so now I have to go back to the store for the 3rd time to see if the store can set it up for me until the release the software update for apple. If not I can't use the camera and returning it!!

I asked my husband for this camera for my Birthday after a blogger said BB gave them one and they liked it. We travel and I felt it would be a better option than my outdated Sony DSLR. This is the worst camera EVER! It locks up, has very limited settings, the auto focus is horrible and a flash that I have to manually pop up?! Come on, Nikon, you can do better than this! It sits in a drawer.

    Overpriced Toy

Great zoom...and that's all. This camera has never been able to focus on movement. I have tried every setting this camera offers. I can zoom in on the moon and get an amazing shot, or I can take a photo of my dog walking in the backyard and she's blurry. Save your money. I've owned better Nikons, with better options, for less money. Unless you need a zoom. Spend $250 for a great zoom. Currently working with Best Buy to see what my options are for a return.

This camera is not worth the money. The quality of the pictures is horrible. Have tried different settings and the quality is still garbage. Hate I missed the deadline to return the camera. Purchased this camera to capture the moments of my 7th year marriage anniversary and was highly disappointed to say the least.

I was so excited to get this camera, the blue shirt at best buy showed me the display in the store. My camera has trouble focusing, some pictures are amazing and focus in, but the most part, poor focus.

My iPhone 7, while it couldn’t outperform as far as zoom, had far better picture quality than this camera. I returned. Just use your phone and don’t waste your money.

This camera uses ordinary AA batteries and is not even close to the 10 year old camera I have that does not use batteries but is rechargeable and lasts longer. could they make such an expensive camera and use only batteries? Not worth the price.

I took 7 simple pictures of my cat and the pictures came out blurry. These were just simple 6 foot pictures nothing complex. Maybe the camera was just a lemon?, but I returned it.

The B500 uses 4AA batteries. The following battery types should be used: LR6/L40 alkaline, FR6/L91 lithium, EN-MH2 Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries. The Battery Type setting in the B500's Setup Menu should be adjusted to reflect the type of battery being used. If the Battery Type is not set correctly then the battery level reading may not be accurate. Please contact Nikon Support with any questions at 1-800-NikonUS. Nikon

The COOLPIX B500 is a compact digital camera, not a DSLR, or digital single lens reflex camera. The COOLPIX B500 is an ergonomically designed superzoom camera powered by AA batteries for added convenience. It features a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor alongside an impressive 40x optical zoom NIKKOR glass lens (up to 80x with Dynamic Fine Zoom) and hybrid VR to combat camera shake when shooting on-the-go. The COOLPIX B500 can also record full 1080p HD video and features a high resolution tilting 920k-dot 3-inch LCD screen that helps capture images at any angle. Users can easily upload their creations to social media via Nikon SnapBridge using any compatible smartphone or tablet. Easy to use camera. Can zoom in on what you're focusing on and it adjusts the clarity of the pic. Took it on my vacation and have numerous memories of it.
