I love the quality of the pictures this camera takes. I realize this is not a low end "point and shoot" type of camera but it does take a little practice learning to use the camera. I watched a YouTube video which helped tremendously in my learning of the features and benefits. The camera is a little heavier than what I was expecting but the quality of the pictures is really stunning. Overall, this is a great camera and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Best zoom camera! The quality of the images as a cellphone 1080…… I didn’t but the camera because I wanted the sharpest image. Simple, the power to zoom in to the moon and places X3000 simple amazing. I have Sony and have the expensive gear and even with the 200mm and the 2X converter…. Don’t have the same zoom as I do with this Nikon. I do have to say it’s heavy and bulky to carry—— those are the biggest let down! can’t have it all!

I love my Coolpix P1000! I am new to photography and really wanted to mostly photograph birds. The zoom is fantastic and the camera is so easy to use. My only issue is that when zooming, the camera can get heavy and hard to hold stable. I may need a tripod?

Excellent camera, considering it is a "Point and shoot". Have not used it beyond the optical view, and the clarity is excellent. Very good image stabilization at full telephoto when hand held. I find the manual focus easy to use and eliminates those cases where auto-focus is slow or won't focus on the subject (fast moving, off center when zoomed out, etc.). Considering the 3000mm equivalent zoom, this camera is not overly heavy, but be aware, that it is front weighted more than a DSLR with a long lens. Can't wait to use it on a tripod.

Easy enough for beginners but has many great features at your finger tips to utilize if you so desire. Yes it’s big and bulky but photos and features are amazing!

Bought it based on specifications. Even BETTER than I expected. Although a little heavy (a LOT of glass) I was able to shoot hand held at full zoom in a basket ball arena without image blur from camera shake because of the camera's image stabilization. By the old rule of thumb, a shutter speed of at least 1/1000 to 1/3000 of a second would have been required! The lens has excellent sharpness, and the auto focus works well. A lot of fun for wildlife photos, as well ! Overall, very pleased !

This camera is amazing! Very easy to use. Zoom is unbelievable for both photos and video. Lots of options. The only negative, and it's not that bad, is that it is a little heavy for a handheld.

I have a Nikon D850 so the P1000 was a great add on camera. I love the zoom and the fact that you can shoot in manual or automatic although I normally shoot in manual. It is a great travel camera vs having to take a camera body, a couple of lenses and a flash. The 3,000 mm super telephoto is amazing if your patient .

My background... (just so you know why I am nuts about this camera and why some of the features are also driving me NUTS.) I “grew up” in the old school where everything was controlled manually by the photographer (even did 5x7 studio camera work) and thus my brain is somewhat locked into the “old school.” In 1989, I got to work in the Soviet Union in television news, using a state of the art Sony BetaCam SP. it was close to $100,000 back then and I was ecstatic about the broadcast quality, even when we beamed our footage up to a satellite in space, to our source in Washington. Here I am decades later and I’m now bragging about this CoolPix 1000P. My gosh, NASA would have been a good client for this camera because of the AMAZING lens. The image quality impresses me but for someone looking for exceptional-remarkable-bodacious and spectacular image quality, you might look elsewhere BUT YOU WON’T FIND ANYTHING with this “moonshot” lens, unless you work at NASA. The very tiny manual that comes with the camera is a JOKE! The print is small, difficult to read and it fails to really explain how this camera can do the many amazing things it can do. Go buy the book by Alexander S. White, “Photographer’s Guide To The Nikon Coolpix P1000.” His book is vastly superior to the wimpy Nikon manual. The camera (for me) is a pain to do manual override of many of the pre-programmed features, especially for tripod shots at night, shooting the moon at full telephoto. The lens stabilization has to be turned off (most people call this “anti-vibration” page 143 in White’s book...) and you’ll need to override the autofocus AND exposure and go manual. Otherwise, these features might be deemed “valuable” by people not wanting to mess with manual control, but I can guarantee that your image quality will suffer unless you let your brain do the thinking in advance for the shots/video you want, because these extreme shots do better when the P1000 isn’t doing the thinking for you. Time lapse videos are enjoyable, I just wish the camera battery had more capacity to do a very long time lapse, not just run for about one hour then poop out. However in Whites’s book, he explains how you can power this Nikon for much longer periods by using an external source (two things you’ll have to buy) in order to do a really long time lapse, like noon to full sunset. Don’t let me discourage you from buying this P1000! I bought mine at Best Buy early October 2020 and I’m as giddy with it as I was in Moscow, when the KGB was trailing me and I didn’t care about them, because I was so thrilled about my camera... Enjoy your P1000 and shoot the man on the moon!

NOTICE: Owner of several Brand cameras like Sony A7RIII, RX10 III, Olympus OM-D E-M1, and Panasonic Leica point and shoot cameras. Use them all for specific types of photography/video where they excel. I bought this for shooting airshows and long distance shots. Took it out to my first airshow the prior weekend on a very cloudy and overcast day and was very happy with the performance. The big concern was the sensor size and how well it would perform. The photos were fantastic - color reproduction was just excellent like other Nikons I used in the past. I had other owner that advised me to adjust some settings so I was not shooting Auto mode. I was also using the Nikon Red Dot DF-M1. Got a lot of great photos. Even when shots are over or underexposed, the color is amazing. Now with the RAW photos, you can post process for some great shots. The size and weight was not an issue. Ergonomics are great. Now for the big surprise. You would not think this camera would be good for indoor photos. I had a birthday party right before airshow and needed the practice with camera so I used that indoors. Amazing shots with the built-in flash - just don't get too close as it may blow out the shot. Not an issue with the zoom lens on this thing to stand back a bit and get some great shots. A big plus was some of my subjects did not feel the intimidation of someone with a camera up in their face and I got some great impromptu shots. I have not tried any macro shots and can't wait to try them on some of my mother's plant garden. Some of the stuff others have posted were impressive. Seems that this camera overachieves in many areas you would not expect but you need to learn to use it properly. Can't wait until I can learn more to see what other spectacular stuff I can get out of it. This camera shines when you take it out of Auto mode. Learn to use it and you will be rewarded greatly. The number of menus and options have been heavily reduced to allow you to learn all those cool features to get you shooting great shots in no time. But it still retains continous mode and other advanced options.

As I gain experience with the Nikon P1000 I found a few shortcomings. First, it's a big, rather heavy camera. This is both good and bad. The weight problem I overcame by adding an Opteka shoulder mount. Adding a Nikon ML-L7 Bluetooth remote gave me the ability to set off the camera with out vibration and the DF-M1 dot sight lets me follow the insects very accurately. I would recommend this camera to anyone doing this or bird photography. I give it only four stars because I think a camera in this price range should have at lease 20 megapixels.

Love the zoom on this camera! I also love the birding setting which is what I use the most. I am not sure if it helps, but it seems to “find” the birds as I zoom in!! The only reason I wouldn’t give it a 5-star rating is because I can’t figure out the battery! It seems to drain pretty fast! I don’t know if it is something I am doing that I will learn to stop doing, but for now I have been disappointed a couple of times already that my battery was exhausted! I will keep working on it!!!

Before this, used the P900. This P1000 is easy to use and produces excellent photos. Not too heavy for hand held shots, even with lens fully extended unless it’s a low light situation, then use monopod or tripod.

Still learning the ins and outs but so far really liking this camera. It is heavier than my other bridge (Canon sx70) but the zoom is the reason and it is worth it, least for shorter hikes or as companion in the car. I have been using it mostly for birding. Haven't gotten into the moon, celestial shots. I really like the easy switch to manual focus and then being able to use the ring.

I’ve taken this camera to the arctic circle on vacation and was so happy I did. The zoom on this camera is phenomenal for a bridge camera. It’s good for all your picture taking needs...close ups, telephoto, animal shots etc. it’s a bit heavy, but that doesn’t bother me. I’ve purchased a wide cloth crossbody strap for it which allows me to take it anywhere!

Zoom is incredible. WiFi connections fast.. not the best for detail on full focus in low light. Overall as a handy all around camera it’s great. Don’t get scared with the reviews about the weight, it’s not that heavy and a lot lighter than varying around multiple lenses. This was an upgrade for me from the P900..
