Customers commend the COOLPIX P900's impressive zoom capabilities, ease of use, and picture quality, frequently citing its lightweight design as a positive attribute. However, some users experienced challenges with focusing, particularly in low-light conditions, and noted the camera's relatively large size. The camera's value for its price point was also frequently mentioned.

Wanted for long zoom, it is great but a little hard to hold still when taking that long shot without a tripod.

Pictures were not sharp even when using a tripod and the phone app for shutter release.
I don't know if I had a defective camera, but the quality of these pictures was less than mediocre.
I was very disappointed. I have always loved Nikon products, and own a Nikon DSLR which I am very happy with.
I purchased this camera to be able to take photos of nature from far away (further than my 200mm lens) but could not believe how poor the quality was.
The macro pictures did come out pretty clear, but even those were not sharp quality.
I have since returned the camera and purchased the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX400V and I am extremely pleased with that purchase. The pictures are SHARP. I am guessing the difference in the megapixels was the problem, even though I had read that the difference between 16 and 20 megapixels was not noticeable.
The pictures below are representative of the differences in all of my shots taken w the Sony compared to the Nikon. The full (first) moon shot was taken w the Sony, the second almost full moon shot was taken w the Nikon.
AND, the Sony was $100 less.

Camera works as advertised, no need to haul a bunch of extra equipment, maybe just a tripod. I do wish it had a plug for a extra and more powerful flash. The presets work perfect and follow along with what I want to photograph. A brighter view finder and eye cup would also be nice.

We like to hike and camp and this camera is great for capturing great images at virtually any distance. I am including a sample image of a full moon (only editing to photo was sharpening a bit) taken with this camera.

Amazing Camera!

I've been a long time Nikon shooter owning four Nikon cameras. Currently I have a D700, D7000, D70, D40, a Fuji X100s, a Panasonic Lumix LX3 and a Sony camcorder. I was happily surprised as I was not expecting what I discovered with this new camera.
First, the menus are a bit simple for me as I'm used to the extensive controls on my other Nikons. It does give you a lot of range to work with though and I like the user presets. I love the articulating screen and the nice solid feel of the camera in my hands. I haven't used all the features yet, but am downloading the full manual to get to them (it comes with a 'starter edition' instruction book which is very basic#.
The features of the continuous high speed captures were amazing. This camera takes pictures before you fully press the shutter, then captures up to 20 for you to pick the best shot as well as a BSS #best shot selector# selection. It captures all very fast and I use a San Disk Extreme card with it. You can turn off shutter noise too!
The manual settings, are easy to work with the two wheels, making the adjustments easily with nice firm movement. All the shooting modes #EV+/-, macro, flash and ISO# are easy to get to and use as well as the other settings in the menus. The zoom function has many stop points to set for quick use and a pre-set zoom feature. It has a convenient function button to use for a favorite feature for which I use for a quick change to high speed shooting selections.
Now for the Zoom function which blew me away altogether! After a few test shots, I saw the pics were fairly sharp with the great built in stabilization working, although my hands are not as steady as they once were. I took some license plate shots over a hundred plus yards away and these were as clear as if I was ten feet away! I went in for a shot of a pool ladder in a back yard five houses away #see pic I uploaded here#. When I zoomed in on the pic on the monitor I was in disbelief #as was everyone I showed it to# as I was able to read the impressed warning label in full detail. I was barely able to see the ladder from where I was standing at first.
I tested it at a beach nearby the next day and got some beautifully rendered seascapes, sunsets and close-ups of a bridge almost three miles away that I could make out the antennas on it. I could see from the slight fuzziness of these long shots that to really get the great shots, you'd need to use a tripod with the stabilization feature turned off and possibly a remote control or the built in shutter timer which would remove most of the unsteady hand held movement the camera has to deal with. I do this with my other Nikons as well to insure the clearest shots.
The Wi-Fi is a great feature that hasn't been tried yet as I wouldn't use this camera for a photo shoot anyway. It's one of my 'fun' cameras and I'm really enjoying what it can do, especially the great 'on-the-fly' bird shots I've been able to capture so far as well as a few airplanes flying over. Will give it a good run this summer when the landscape is full of things to shoot.
I'm very happy with it and am looking to accessorize it with filters and such. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants the best Nikon has to offer in a very long zoom at a great price to be sure considering what's in it!

This camera is lightweight. I did love the zoom on it however, photos were not as crisp as I would have liked. And this is using a tripod and timer.
I also did no like the fact I could not change past F/8.

I really wanted a long zoom bridge camera and found this camera. This camera has been a hot seller and difficult to get but Best Buy finally offered it for sale and I was lucky to get it. The P900's size is akin to a small dSLR but lighter in weight. The zoom range is incredible and the images are essentially sharp. It has wi-fi, NFC and GPS which you can record where the picture was taken. The articulating screen is a nice feature and the controls are easy to manipulate. I do recommend a memory card that can write fast otherwise if you shoot in rapid mode the camera will lag and will miss shots in the meantime. The sensor suffers in low light situations which hunts or ending up with a blurred focus in the end but you do have the option of manual focusing using the zoom lever in the lens barrel (option under setting). Plan to get extra battery because it only takes around 360 images and less if you do use your articulating screen a lot which does zap power. I will be using this camera while on vacation and hiking where I can take pictures of subjects far away. It's also a great camera to use looking for rock climbers in steep cliffs where you don't have a binoculars.

I previously used the Nikon P510 and was very impressed with the easy to use functionality. When I heard of the P900 coming out, I was excited to upgrade to the 83x zoom. My favorite subject matter is nature and the moon. I was super thrilled to find out that the menu had a preset for "moon
and "birding". This camera is simple to use. Takes amazing photos! I also love the editing feature. Great for beginners. Good quality and great value for the price.

I had to get my Nikon Coolpix P900 at a camera store in Phoenix because Best Buy, Amazon, and even the Nikon website were out of it. I took my camera to the baseball game on July 4th and took jaw-dropping photos of the Diamondbacks baseball players along with stellar photos of the fireworks. With an 83x zoom, you have the pathway of winning Photography awards. I am supplying a photo of Jarrod Saltalamacchia of the Diamondbacks whereby this camera is so powerful that it captured the image of Chuck Norris on the end of his baseball bat. The Nikon Coolpix P900 will make you an artist. You will feel so happy when you first open up the box to see a camera that has no comparison.

I purchased this camera for it's high power optical zoom. The optical zoom is great but the digital zoom is not worth using. Has great video stabilization, even when taking photos or videos when zoomed in on high optical. It is best though to use a tripod when zoomed all the way to 83X or near 83X.
Only problem I've noticed with it yet is comparing it with my Canon PowerShot SX60 the Nikon Coolpix P900 has very dark pictures and videos when set to "Auto Mode". The Canon SX60 is much brighter. For instance when taking pictures in the woods, the trees trunks are black, with the Nikon P900, and you cannot even tell there is bark on the trees. With my Canon SX60 the bark stands out really bright.
Overall, the P900 is a great camera for the price. I don't want to run down the quality of the pictures and videos because I only paid $599 for it and I won't compare it with a $2,000 or $3,000 camera. You get what you pay for and I wanted it for the super zoom.
One final remark....I hear so many people complain about it being so heavy. My thought to that is, if you want to complain about the weight then buy a lighter one and give up the high zoom.
I am very happy with my purchase!
Would have given it a 5 star if the pictures were brighter in "Auto Mode"
